Buggy Days is only a short three months away and planning for the

event has already begun. As you know, it takes an incredible amount of

time, effort, and community support to ensure the success of the

festival. The 2014 Buggy Days festival offers a couple of ways to

become involved. You may sign up as a volunteer for a particular

portion of the festival or you may sign up as a general volunteer to

assist where needed. You also have the opportunity to sponsor one of

the many events that will be taking place, such as the beauty pageant

or the concert. For more information on the festival or to sign up as a

volunteer or a sponsor, please contact the Chamber at (770) 358-5884.

The Rock Ranch June Activities

The Farm Market will be open Monday through Saturday every week serving our famous

homemade strawberry ice cream and we have a new homemade blackberry soft serve just

for this season. The Farm Market is open 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Guests may purchase

cider slushies, gifts, fresh vegetables, berries, eggs, jams and jellies, Gullah Gourmet

products, all natural home grown premium beef and more.

Saturday, June 14, 21 and 28 the ranch will be in peak berry picking form and open for

family fun. In addition to picking fresh berries and veggies, families can enjoy the fun

attractions for $10 per person. Admission buys a wrist band that grants access to unlimited

pony rides, locomotive train rides, paddle boats, pedal carts, the giant jumping pillow, Tiny

Town, cane pole fishing, petting zoo, slide hill and more. Concessions locations will be

open with goodies like funnel cakes, ribs, turkey legs and Chick-fil-A sandwiches. The Cow

-A-Bunga zip lines will also be open until 4 p.m. ($12.75 for the 1400 foot lines and $8 for

the 800 foot lines). The 50 foot tall rock climbing wall is $5. Hours for the fun attractions

are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on June 14 and 21 and Celebrate America on June 28 offers extended

hours.

Celebrate America at The Rock Ranch is June 28. This year marks the 16th edition of this

annual event that features family fun, good food, live music and fireworks. Traditionally,

this has been an evening event. However, we have received feedback over the past two

seasons that some of our guests that travel from over an hour away would like to spend the

whole day with us to get the most out of the time invested in a car ride. We listened and this

year we'll be open 10 a.m. to dark-thirty (9:30ish p.m.). All guests who arrive between 10

a.m. and 6 p.m. will pay $10 per person. Folks arriving at 6 p.m. or later to enjoy primarily

the music and fireworks will pay $25 per vehicle. Some attractions will close at 8 p.m.

(train rides, pony rides, cow train, paddle boats and pedal carts). This event will offer an

amazing selection of concessions options and a wide variety of entertainment. Multiple live

bands will provide something for everyone with classic party favorites from many different

genres of music.

"YARD SALE"

On June 21, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on June 28, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. we will have a Swap, Buy and Yard Sale. We accumulate a lot of cool stuff here at the ranch and sometimes we have to purge and get rid of items that we no longer need. Likewise, we would like to invite anyone else that wants to sell stuff (as long as it's G-Rated). Anything from puppies and chickens to arts and crafts to household junk - if you want to sell it, you can join us for this event. E-mail [email protected] if you would like to reserve a space. An outdoor booth space is $10 and is roughly 20' by 20'. The space is yours for both Saturdays - you are welcome to cover and leave any items from week to week if you so desire. You may rent folding tables from us for $5 each or bring your own. Guests that desire only to shop at the Yard Sale will not be required to pay admission.

President’s Corner What a great month May was! We opened the farmers market, held a political

forum, showed our first Movies at the Ritz movie, recognized our teachers at

Teacher Appreciation breakfasts, and hosted three ribbon cuttings.

I like to compare new businesses with that of planting a tree seed. The seed is

the business and the ground is the community. As the seed is cared for, it begins

to grow. The seedling then starts to develop a multitude of roots which

represent purpose, the drive to succeed, and community networking. The roots are by far the most

crucial part of the tree for growth, however rain and sunshine are both essential. Rain represents

learning from mistakes and infusing positive changes back into the business model while sunshine

represents achievement. Finally, after the tree has developed a solid root system and trunk, branches

begin to form with brightly colored leaves, flowers, and fruit. These represent the end goal; they

represent the culmination of support from the community, learning from setbacks, and celebrating

victories. The end goal is for all of our businesses to grow strong and reap the rewards from their labor.

We are all in this together and as long as we continue to support one another, there is no limit as to

how high we can go.

Marshall T. Hooks
