JUANAMARIA PARK

Fun Facts About the Cooper’s Hawk• Family - Cooper’s hawks belong to a family of

hawks known as Accipiters. These hawks are medium-sized, short-winged, and have a long-legged appearance.

• Diet - Cooper’s hawks prey primarily on other birds. Bobwhites, blackbirds, starlings, squirrels, and chipmunks are common prey for this hunter.

• Nesting - Typically, the male builds a platform nest of sticks and twigs from 20 to 60 feet above ground level in a tree located in a wooded area. Nests are sometimes built on top of an old squirrel, crow, or hawks nest.

• Body Type - Cooper’s hawks have good depth perception for hunting and catching prey while flying at high speeds. Their long tails act as rudders that allow them to be highly maneuverable in wooded areas as they hunt birds. The eyes of this hawk face forward, giving it good depth perception for hunting and catching prey while flying at high speeds.

• Call - This raptor makes a series of harsh and quick kak, kak, kak, kaks.

• Size - The Cooper’s hawk is between 14 and 21 inches long, with a wingspan of 27 to 36 inches.

Have you ever wondered what an inclusive play area is? It’s a universally designed, sensory-rich environment that enables children to develop physically, socially, and emotionally. An engaging place that provides just the right level of challenge and offers opportunities for success. A place that goes beyond minimum accessibility to create play experiences that meet a variety of needs and interests.

When you play together, you learn and grow together. We hope the new inclusive play area being built at Arroyo Verde Park inspires community members of all

ages and abilities to play, connect, and spend time together outdoors.

Bringing our Community TogetherConstruction on our first inclusive play area is now underway!

Special thanks to our donors for helping make this dream a reality.
