FROM OUR PASTOR Dear Parishioners,
“Eucharist and Mission are inseparable.” (St. John Paul II, 2004) Thus, it is with great joy that we inaugurate our First Parish Mission 2015 on the occasion of the Solemnity of Corpus Chris .
This Parish Mission is not simply another parish ac vity, it is its essence. For God’s call of love mandates a missionary character for all Chris ans: “Jesus loved his brothers and sisters to the extent that He was dedicated totally to their salva on –this is the basis of evangeliza on.” (Congrega on for Divine Worship and the Sacraments, 2008) In fact, “if a parish does not evangelize, it is only a building.” Hence, “Evangeliza on is not a ma er of free choice. It is an obliga on of our faith, the perfect expression of our charity.” Moreover, it is a “sign of the maturity of our faith.” (Ibid.)
And in this our mission –like in every mission of the Church- the Eucharist plays a crucial role. For it is our Eucharis c Lord the One who draws people to Himself. He is at the center of our mission. He is the origin, the driving force and the summit of all our missionary endeavors. For it is “around Christ in the Eucharist [that we] grow as the people, temple and family of God.” (Cf. St. John Paul II, 2004)
Fi ngly then, the theme of our mission is Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. (James 4:8)
What we seek is “to move people to conversion, that is, to invite those who had lost their faith and grace by sin to return to the truth and friendship of God, to call for a more perfect life to rou ne Chris ans, to move souls to fervor, to convince people to live the bea tudes, to awaken voca ons.” (Cf. JPII, 1981) In other words, we want to bring everyone to share in the very life of Christ.
In this sense, each one of you is part of this mission! Our mission is for everyone because God wants all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth (1 Tim 2:4). Therefore, I fervently encourage all of you to take part as much as you can in all the ac vi es of the mission. I invite you to pray for the spiritual fruits of the mission, to bring others along with you to the missionary act (yes! each of you is a poten al missionary), and help us in every way you can to make of our parish that “island of mercy” Pope Francis spoke about.
My dear Brothers and Sisters, these two weeks of mission are a blessing for us, a me of grace. This Parish Mission is a sign of God’s love and preference for us. It is a torrent of grace formed by a gathering together of all the means of salva on. It is a me for a deeper commitment, a me of spiritual renewal, of conversion, a me to carry to every home, to every office, to every sick person in his bed, to every classroom the great gi received, that is, the joy of the friendship with Christ.
Today, as we walk in procession following our Eucharis c Lord and as we are sent to go forth in our mission let us be convinced that our Lord goes before us, as the Gospel affirms: they went forth and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them… (Mk. 16:20).
Let us remember that Christ is always journeying to meet us… May our streets be streets of Jesus! May our houses be homes for Him and with Him! May our life of every day be penetrated by his presence!
May our Eucharis c Lord whom we adore as truly, really and substan ally present in the Blessed Sacrament bless our missionary endeavors with abundant fruits of mercy and grace.
And since our Blessed Mother con nues to be the monstrance that reveals God’s Mercy to the world, to her we entrust every soul we come in contact with during these mission days. May our Lady Queen of the Apostles strengthen our missionary zeal so that we bring others to experience “a genuine hunger for the Eucharist.” (Ecclesia de Eucharis a, 33)
I wish you all a spiritually frui ul Parish Mission under the maternal gaze and tender protec on of our Lady.
May God bless you all!
