TAT WHERE ANY BOWLER CAN WIN BIG!!

June 2009—It’s getting closer to Summer and another True Amateur Tournaments Summer Classic, held at The Orleans Ca-sino in Las Vegas, NV. For those of you that are not familiar with our tournament, The TAT is a week along qualifying event which has 10 different tournaments that run simultaneously throughout the week and has over 450+ ways to cash and this tournament is easier to cash than ever! The TAT is for Amateurs only which means there are no PBA members or $10,000 winners in the past 7 years. All of our $25,000 winners are TRUE AMATEURS and no one has been in the Top 6 twice. Guaranteed prize fund is: 1st Place $20,000 - 2nd Place $12,500 - 3rd place $10,000 - 4th $5000 It will be held at The Orleans on June 29th- July 5th, 2009.

Every participant will receive the new Ebonite Magic high performance bowling ball with their first entry with hundreds of bowlers also receiving a second ball, The One Pearl also by Ebo-nite. The TAT has the best return out of any tournament in Las Vegas. More than 1 out of 4 people made our finals last tourna-ment with 80% of those people making a minimum of $1000. With another 1 in 4 making the Ebonite Challenge finals (TOTAL OF OVER 50% OF THE BOWLERS IN ONE THE FINALS) Also, 4 out of 10 bowlers earned their entry fee back before our finals even started! If you enter early you can also receive free squads but walk-ins are always welcomed at the tournament and with 70 state of the art lanes there’s always plenty of room. For these reasons the TAT is known as the “Value” megabuck tourna-ment because you get so much with your entry.

The TAT is a tournament run by bowlers for bowlers and we could not put this event on twice annually without the support

and loyalty of our customers as well as the entire bowling community. We rely on bowlers to get the word out and bring their friends, colleagues, and league members to our tournament and the reward for all the bowlers is bigger and more prize funds, cheaper squads, free balls, and even free squads. We also raise our prize fund with entries so the more people you bring along, the more money will be given out at our tournament.

The TAT would like to thank all of our sponsors for helping making our tournament more af-fordable for the average bowler. We have been working together to make it less expensive for our customers to bowl and stay in Vegas. We at TAT will be cutting our prices and The Orleans was generous enough to offer TAT customers our cheapest rooms ever, $38 weekday rooms (Sunday - Thursday) with weekend rooms only $76. Also, all of our customers will be receiving at least $50 in free casino money with Orleans guests receiving a minimum of $100 along with an extra free squad and an extra sweeper at ½ price.

The TAT also offers a 51 and over and a 205 & Under division. Our Tournament has the most reputable 205 & Under average division and cut scores are usually very low in this division. Every bowler in our 205 division belongs in that division and our TAT Tournament directors work very hard to assure that no one has an advantage over any other bowler in that division.

For those of you that are familiar with the TAT, a big change for the bowlers is the way the mara-thon entries are counted. For the first time, when there are squad cuts or more than 1 cut a day, the Marathons will be counted as a whole entry 1.0 instead of .5 or ½ entry. The next big change is the RNF division. Bowlers who get moved into their age division from the RNF will be added on as bonuses and will not affect the other cuts. Together, this will put at least 15-25 more bowlers into the finals at no extra cost to bowlers.

Entering our tournament only takes a minute and is easy! You can call, mail, e-mail, fax, or signup on our website at www.trueama-teurtournaments.com. We are expecting this tournament to have a great turnout despite the economic downturn. Besides it’s all Guaranteed!! Our TAT and Ebonite Staff thrive to be the best in the industry at cus-tomer service. If you have any questions or comments feel free to call us toll free, 7 days a week at 1-888-828-2695, or email us at [email protected]. Please come join us for a great event at the TAT Summer Classic any bowler can win!

MISSION HILLS—Tim Klepper an ABTA regular for nearly 3 yrs did it up big as he parlayed a big 288 scratch game to become the top seed in the semis and finally downed upstart George Trainer in the title game to take home a nice $2,300 to Simi Valley.

The scoring was nice at Mission taking Men +77 and the Ladies +42 to the semis and also Super Seniors added to the board were Kathy So-lowitz, Romy Cajucom, and Ely Cruz.

We were thrilled by a 299 game by Scott Vasquez who will receive ABTA Awards for his fine game. He should have had the “300”, great shot!!

A nice turnout of 196 bowl-ers saw 55 Semifinalists take the floor, of which all would cash and the top 16 to advance to the single elim finals with 3 women min guaranteed to the top 16.

The scoring was still good and leading the semis was Tim Klepper, the pride of Simi Val-ley at a big +137 who will sit out and bowl for the title. In second Daniel Arberry +112 would receive a bye, and en-ter in round two of the single elim finals. Those advancing to the top 16 finals were men and Ladies (3 guaranteed) +52 to make the top 16 Single Elims.

LasVegas Rooms Due by June 13The first round went and

we had Carlos Median, Glen Dantes, Danny Guevarra, Heidi Cheng, Ray Sanchez, and Deborah Sanders lose out. They received checks of $100 each in 10-16th places. In round two Sophia Kim, George Huang Daniel Keyes, and Jeremy Paulsen fall out. They got checks of $110 in 6-9th places.

Round three saw Daniel Arberry down Robert Webb 236-208. George Trainer struck late edging out Brad Graeff 240-237. So Robert and Brad were 4th and 5th with fine bowling and $120. Daniel and George to meet for the right to bowl Klepper. In this game Trainer was clean downing Arberry who lost his edge in this game 215-191 to advance to the title. Daniel was 3rd with great bowling. He bowled very well!

The title game was on. Trainer led off with a split and open. Klepper, who has im-proved so much doubled, spare and another double to take a lead. George was clean with a double and was within range until Tim started his march to the title with a strike in the 7th and followed up with four more for a resounding 257 scratch game and won his first ABTA event in fine style and a nice $2,300 payday. Great

bowling by a very nice Young man who has had some try-ing times but he worked at it and the result is he is our lat-est champion. Great Bowling Tim!!

George Trainer bowled lights out also and won four matches before finally falling in the title game.

Great bowling George! He came so close and same for Daniel Arberry in 3rd place.

ABTA Notes: Tourney Hi Qualifiers were Scott Vasquez +240 and Sophia Kim led the ladies +111. They will get paid entries for the fine bowling.

The Doubles were headed by Scott “299” Vasquez and Marvin Crowder 1624 and $120, Marv Crowder teamed with Chris Kelly 1516 $100. We paid 14 places and $780 in the doubles.

The Match Game was UN-Matched at 209, and with the carryover of $ 1,145 the match Game is estimated at $2,500 this week.

The Match Series was NOT HIT, so with the carry-over of $322 we estimate a $700 Match Series at Bowl-ing Square.

In the 3-6-9 Edrich Miller missed on the 4th shot so we will have a $1,000 pot this week. Edrich got $50 for beer money.

National Deaf Bowling NewsRon Hood Jr. Wins

GLDBA’s Cahen Championshipby Connie Marchione

CLEVELAND — Thanks for the information provided by Ken DeGroff. Ron Hood Jr. of Rochester, NY won the Great Lakes Deaf Bowling Association’s Herman Cahen Masters Championship by defeating Allen Brooks, Indianapolis, in the fi nals for the $1,600 fi rst place prize. Brooks received $800 for 2nd. No scores were supplied and the prestigious event named after the deceased long time GLDBA Secretary-Treasurer drew over 100 entries for its 27th consecutive year. The winner, Hood Jr. had won the Eastern Association of Deaf Bowlers’ Masters last year and was the 2005 GLDBA handicap all-events champ with 2222 score. The Cahen Masters defending champion, Carl Malucci, California, placed 7th and two time cham-pion (the only back to back 2002-03) D.J. Powell, Indianapolis placed 6th. Other Californian Mark Fisser placed 34th.

Eastern Association Of Deaf Bowlers Has Great Website

ALBANY — The website given to me by Ken DeGroff, ead-bowl.com is a great one. It’s designer Mark Jeremy, Albany, NY, deserves kudos for making it informative and easy to get what you need to know. Eastern Association of Deaf Bowlers just fi nished its 63rd annual tournament in Albany last May3. It’s website does not show the prize money given out because the scores were unoffi cial as the averages are being checked for accuracy. In opening, I clicked on Results and got a list of events, which I clicked on “teams scratch” to open. I got a list of 26 teams in order of their scores with 8585-5! (NY-RI-MI) 3188 in fi rst place. Then I clicked on that team and got the team’s roster with their entry aver-ages, their games and series bowled: Ronnie I. Zuchegno Jr., NY with 202 average and games 198-227-242/667and handicp 15/682, Ronald L. Rood Jr., NY 198 and games 215-171-236/622 and handicap 24/646, Kevin J. Moran, MD 220 and games 190-210-234/634 and 0 handicap/634. James P. Morris, MD 214 and games 204-206-258/668 and 0 handicap/668 and Ronald H. Hinkel, RI 220 and games 192-201-204/597 with 0 handicap/597. The team scores were 999-1015-1174/3188 and 39 handicap 3227 total. So I clicked on “teams handicap” and found their 3227 placed 2nd to Wilmington (DE) Club for the Deaf’s 3263. Then I went back to teams scratch and this Wilmington Club for the Deaf scored 3089 for 2nd place and carried 174 handicap. OH-IN-MI Top Bowlers (OH-IN/MI) with 3063 placed 3rd in scratch and with 43 handicap 3106 also placed them 3rd in handicap. That is how its website works the same way with its singles, doubles and all-events, which I will report in another article. I tried to fi nd its Masters results but it was not listed. It is interesting to notice that Kevin Moran and James Morris were also on the Overrated Bowlers team that won fi rst place in GLDBA with a near record 3345 scratch score three weeks prior to EADB tournament. So I am waiting for the names of their three other bowlers on that team and also 2nd place Smashin’ Pin team roster which hit 3202. That Detroit team may be the same team Always Pocket 1-3 that rolled the deaf team record 3348 series two years ago.

– BNN Interview – Wendy Macpherson

Submitted by Jim GoodwinPART 1 — There is no question that Wendy Macpherson is

one of the greatest women bowlers of all time, winning the dis-tinction of being named Bowler of the Decade of the 1990’s. Her career began with a stunning victory as an 18-year-old winning the U S Open in 1986, and she never looked back.

By the time the PWBA Tour ceased operation in 2003, Macpherson had accumulated 20 pro titles, including five ma-jors. She was named Rookie of the Year after winning the Open, and went on to earn Player of the Year honors four times.

Macpherson owns 10 PWBA records, including all-time lead-ing earnings of more than $1.2 million, and an amazing 102 ca-reer television appearances, making her perhaps the most recog-nized woman pro by fans everywhere.

In 2006, Macpherson won the USBC Open Championship Singles competing against thousands of the best male bowlers in the land, and in 2009, she takes her rightful place in the USBC Hall of Fame.

It was in Reno, Nevada just before the induction ceremony that Jim Goodwin took the opportunity to ‘catch up’ with what has been happening in Wendy’s life “post PWBA.”

Here is what Wendy had to share with the Bowling News Net-work:

Let’s talk about the transition from a full-time touring professional bowler for 20 years to what has been happening since 2003 when the PWBA Tour ceased operation.

Sure – As you know, my first love is to bowl; to be a bowler. I love to compete. It makes my heart beat. I love everything about it. Since 2003, the lack of women’s tournaments has been dis-appointing with no tour to bowl in, but in the past few years, there has been a little more for the ladies with the addition of the Women’s Series to the PBA Tour. But it’s still nothing like the 25 –27 weeks per year we had for many years, and I miss that competition.

We understand you have made several trips to Japan to bowl?

Yes. A couple of years ago, I joined the Japanese Pro Bowl-ers Association, and I’ve been going back-and-forth bowling in about 7-9 tournaments a year in Japan. I take about four or five trips per year of about 2-3 weeks each trip. It’s a fabulous time. I’m learning a new culture, and it takes care of my bowling ful-fillment and gets my heart beating and all of that I really enjoy.

Have you learned the language?I would love to learn it, but it is difficult. Our friend Susie Re-

ichley [also a USBC Hall of Famer] has helped me a little, and she speaks it fluently, but it took her four years of living there to learn . . .so, maybe in about 20 years I can have a real conversa-tion. Just when I think I am understanding a few things, its time to come back to the States.

Have you been able to make money bowling there?Absolutely. A few dollars. It’s an expensive thing to do. Airline

tickets are expensive, and I need to pay a translator, but I do live with a family when I’m there, so that helps.

Do you have any sponsorship for the trips to Japan?A little bit, but it is still very expensive, and I absorb most of

the cost myself. Are you still on a ball company staff?I am. I’m still with Columbia 300. Some of the tournaments,

its just not possible to make expenses, so I choose not to go, but it has been the experience of a lifetime; learning the culture. The home I live in Shizuka overlooks Mount Fuji. I have my own room, and I’m able to leave things there for my next trip. They are a great family, and have made it my second home. They are super-supportive of my career and my adventure over there.

Has your husband Nick been able to go with you?About a year-and-a-half ago he came for a couple of tourna-

ments, but with the economic state we are in now, we have to work, and we do what we need to do to make a couple of dol-lars.

Do you still work with Brad Edelman and his High Roller tournaments?

Yes. I’ve been doing that since 1992. When I moved to Las Vegas in ’91, I approached Brad and told him I would love to be a part of the High Roller staff. I saw it as an opportunity to be involved in the sport without physically throwing a ball, and I really love it. When I work those tournaments, my days are very calm, cool and collected. I am not emotionally involved – I didn’t just bowl 300 followed by a 140 game, so the days are great be-cause I am not bowling, but I am seeing others enjoy the sport. It has been a really great thing to be involved in.

And you and the High Roller staff are also involved in the Military Tournament?

Yes we are. I have great admiration for everybody in the ser-vice. These are good people who have risked their lives to defend our country, and I’ve met a ton of people through the two events that run in January and August. They are wonderful people. In all the years I bowled on TV, many of them saw me, and now I get to know them. It’s been wonderful. Part 2 next week

BOWL

There Was No Rainbow But E.J. Rogers Found The Gold On Lanes

3 & 4 in Rocky Marsh Doublesby Joy McGregor

There is nothing better or more satisfying (I wouldn’t know) than Perfection; especially when a plan comes together in the sweet form of a “300” game. E.J. Rogers started his morning rather nicely stroking 233-235 and 202 for a respectable 670 se-ries. And then the magic started. Show E.J. 10 shiny pins,a ball with 3 holes and watch him perform. After shooting his 202 third game, he grabbed the brass ring and turned it into pure gold with 12 perfect X’s and V O I L A ... A PERFECTO!!!! E.J., wearer of the “Crown” has been in control of the high series honors for the second week in-a-row. This week’s set “glistened” at 970. Who will wear the crown next week? Just fantastic bowling E.J.!!

Terry Brent gave E.J. a run for the Crown with his effort on games of 239-227-246 for 712 and a nice topper 257 to post a fine 969. Game on??

Tony Chaco is now ready and very able to take back his nick-name, “Tony the Tiger” as he stroked games of 236-246-233 for 715 and added a 237 for a “Grrreaat” 952 set. Is it the Wheaties or the P and B Tony?

Juan Sandopval showed his bolwling proess as he powered his ball on games of 236-208-258 for 702 and added 227 to reg-ister 929.
