Reminder: If you attend Mass at either St. Luke’s or St. Mark’s you can drop your Our Lady of the Mountain envelope in the collection basket and it will be credited as your donation to Our Lady of the Mountain.

Did you know that June 20 – the first day of summer – is National eGiving Day? Our Lady of the Mountain can take particular joy in this celebration, as the response to eGiving in our church has been wonderful. To build on this success, I am setting a National eGiving Day Challenge. My goal is for Our Lady of the Mountain families to put envelopes on a permanent summer vacation and make the switch to eGiving. This is especially important in the summer months, when many families may be out of town some weekends and Our Lady of the Mountain does not receive their envelopes. It’s easy for people to forget to catch up once they’re back, and our weekly offertory can fluctuate as a result – making it harder to predict how much we will have to sustain our year-round ministries. The more families who welcome the beginning of summer by taking this National eGiving Day Challenge, the more consistency and predictable our offertory will be month after month – and this will help us do even more to spread Christ’s love throughout the community. Being part of this challenge is simple: Visit www.faithdirect.net and use our church code: NJ568 Thank you for your continued support of our parish family with your time and talents as well as treasure! God Bless You, Fr. Joe

June 5th, 2016 ~ Tenth Sunday in Ordinary Time NEW PRIESTS…. This past Saturday Fr. Dan and I attended the ordination of 10 new priests for our diocese. The celebration of the Sacrament of Holy Orders usually occurs only once a year. So this is a special day for the young men who were ordained and for the many many priests of our diocese who were present for the ceremony. The priest is a visible sign of what it means to be a servant among God’s people. Throughout the rite of ordination the young men are reminded that they are called to servants in the image of Jesus Christ. They are encouraged to continually try to imitate the ways of Jesus in all that they do. For us older priests it is also a day to be reminded of the commitment made in the past for Fr. Dan it was only a year ago while for me it was 43 years ago. The young men ordained on Saturday are from the countries of Columbia and Poland which have produced many vocations over the past years. They are looking forward to their service in our diocese pray that they will have a long and rewarding priesthood of service…Fr. Joe THE JOY OF LOVE… Love never seeks its own advantage 1 Corinthians 5 (St Paul) - Pope Francis in his exhortation The Joy of Love changes the wording and writes “love is generous” He then writes “We have said that to love another we must first love ourselves. Paul’s hymn to love, however, states that love “does not seek its own interest” In another text (Phil2:4) “Let each of you look no only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.” Love can transcend and overflow the demands of justice, “expecting nothing in return” (Luke 6:35) Pope Francis asks “Can this type of love be possible?” His answer is: yes because it is demanded by the gospel: “You received without pay, give without pay” (Matthew 10:8) A COMMENT ON MARRIAGE: There are several weddings going to take place this summer and fall in both OLM and St. Mark…here is a story of one that is not…A family affair… Next Friday evening I am marrying a young cousin of mine. This wedding is really a family affair. It represents a lineage of my father’s side of the family. The great-grandmother of the bride was my father’s sister. The bride’s grandmother is my father 1st Cousin. The bride’s father is my 3rd (or 2nd removed cousin). The bride’s father and mother were married by me thirty years ago. As we continue to read the words of Pope Francis on The Joy of Love remember to pray for all of these young couples who will marry in the church this summer. This Sacrament of Marriage is a public expression of their love and the marriage is to be a sign of God’s love to all of us…Fr. Joe

YEAR OF MERCY… "When someone asks, 'How does one become a good Christian?' the answer is simple: do what Jesus says in his discourse on the Beatitudes. The Lord knows sin and grace, and he knows the paths that lead to sin and to grace. 'Blessed are the merciful, for they will find mercy' . . . It's always important to think that we are all an army of forgiven! All of us have been forgiven! And this is why he who takes this path of forgiveness is blessed." — Pope Francis THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK…The beginning of holiness is found in faithfulness to prayer. May each of us grow in holiness through prayer. If we pray—we will believe. If we believe—we will love. If we love—we will serve. Only then will we put our love for God into action, through service to Christ in the distressing disguise of the poor. – Mother Teresa - Mother Teresa will be canonized as a recognized Saint of the church in September by Pope Francis. JOIN THE PATERSON DIOCESAN CHOIR is sponsoring a pilgrimage to Italy this coming February 17 to 24. The 6 night trip will include Florence, Assisi and Rome. Dear Friends in Christ, As we look to celebrate Father’s Day, we acknowledge their role I the family as one who helps create a loving and nurturing home life, providing tried and true lessons that will enrich their children. Throughout the Diocese of Paterson, our “fathers” – our priests – work to enrich the spiritual life of our parish families by preaching the Gospel and inviting all to the Eucharistic table where we experience Christ in the breaking of the bread. Such a responsibility is an honor and a joy for those of us in the priesthood. This coming Father’s Day, a very special collection is being taken up to support those men who are being educated at seminaries in our country and around the world and who will one day serve our own parishes. Just as with your support of our Bishop’s Annual Appeal, this collection will be used to help fund the cost of their formation. Your gift will be a wonderful show of support and encouragement to those men who are giving themselves to Christ and to his people. I ask that you please be as generous as possible in response to this Father’s Day Collection for seminarian education. Faithfully yours in Christ, Most Reverend Arthur J.
