Vertino, District Clerk MEETING CALLED TO ORDER President Sabo called the meeting to order at 6:05 p.m. CONSIDERATION FOR EXECUTIVE SESSION A motion was made by Mr. Peters, seconded by Mr. Breier to enter into Executive Session at 6:05 p.m. for discussion of an ongoing legal matter and a specific personnel matter. MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY Mrs. Deull moved, seconded by Mr. Sirianni to resume public session at 7:04 PM followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. There was no action taken during executive session. MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY BOARD COMMENDATION/PRESENTATIONS History Comes Alive Presentations Dr. Fusco introduced Nora O’Bryan, Principal of Errick Road Elementary School. Mrs. O’Bryan introduced 2 students who gave oral presentations of their History Comes Alive Projects. The students are: Katie Bergstrom from Mrs. Haseley’s class, as Eleanor Roosevelt Anthony Cianciosa from Miss Gentile’s class, as Alexander Graham Bell Recognition of Winners from Orleans/Niagara Career & Technical Education Competitions Tim Carter, Principal of the High School recognized the career & technical students that attend Orleans/Niagara BOCES for placing 1st and 2nd in the Skills USA New York State Regional Competitions:

Recognition of the Niagara Gazette’s “Woman of Distinction” Student Award Lynn Reed, the Career Mentor, recognized and introduced Kalie Lazarou, for being chosen as a Woman of Distinction by the Niagara Gazette. Kalie was nominated by Mrs. Reed and School Counselor Lisa Lindamer because of the strong academics and her demonstrated leadership skills. Resolution – Superintendent’s Contract A motion was made by Mr. Peters, seconded by Mr. Breier to approve the following resolution:

WHEREAS, the Board of Education of the Niagara Wheatfield Central School District and Superintendent Dr. Lynn Fusco are parties to a valid, binding contract of employment effective July 1, 2013:

WHEREAS, the initial term of Dr. Fusco’s employment was from July 1, 2013 through June 30, 2017;

WHEREAS, the Board evaluated Dr. Fusco’s performance for the past year and determined she successfully completed (and performed) her duties, roles and responsibilities in such employment, pursuant to the agreed upon evaluation process such that, in accordance with the terms of the Agreement, Dr. Fusco will have a new term for the Agreement from July 1, 2014 through June 30, 2019 in accordance with the language and intent of Paragraph 3(b); and

WHEREAS, Dr. Fusco has requested that she be permitted to continue on the District’s health insurance plan at her sole cost after retirement from the District.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED as follows: 1. The Board hereby authorized entering into the amendment to the employment agreement with Superintendent Fusco, attached hereto (SM14-83); and,

2. The Board hereby authorized the Board President to execute the Amendment to the contract of employment with Superintendent Fusco, to be effective July 1, 2014.

President Sabo would like the minutes to reflect that it is with great regret that the Board accepts the retirement of Lenore Luciano, Director of Special Programs. POLICIES A motion was made by Mr. Sirianni, seconded by Mr. Peters to accept the Second Reading and Adoption of the following revisions to: Policy #1332 – Duties of the School District Treasurer Policy # 5120 – School Board Budget Hearing (SM14-84) MOTION CARRIES UNANIMOUSLY PRESIDENT’S REPORT President Sabo stated that he is still playing “phone tag” with Senator Maziarz. SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT Dr. Fusco thanked the Board for their confidence in her leadership and their continued support. The next Board meeting we will be recognizing our retirees. Thank you to “Eleanor” and “Alexander” for your incredible presentations of History Comes Alive! FINANCE REPORT Dr. Fusco explained that the inactive clubs at ETMS will have their balances transferred to the ETMS Spirit Club. CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION Dr. Fusco introduced Nora O’Bryan and John Fitzpatrick who gave a presentation of the Strengthening Teacher & Leader Effectiveness Grant (STLE). There was discussion. Dr. Fusco explained that the School Calendar for 2014-2015 was approved tonight on the Consensus Agenda and will be posted on the District’s website. President Sabo expressed his concerns regarding the upcoming field tests. A motion was made by President Sabo to suspend and prohibit the administration of all remaining NYS Field Tests in the Niagara Wheatfield School District for the remainder of the 2013-2014 school year. There was discussion. The Motion was seconded by Mr. Breier. MOTION CARRIES UNANIMOUSLY PUBLIC COMMENTS - none


BOARD MEMBER COMMENTS Mr. Sirianni: Thanked all the presenters, all students, the History Comes Alive student presentations were very special. Hats off to all! Mrs. Deull: Congratulations to all the students and their accomplishments. Thanks to all who watch on the live feed. Thanked our Veterans. Mr. Breier: Congratulations to all the students. Thanked Nora and John for the STLE Grant presentation. Administration does a great job. History Comes Alive has been performed for 10 years! Learning shouldn’t be so stressful. Mr. Schoelles: Excited for the STLE Grant. History Comes Alive presentations were awesome. Proud to have these students. Josh is a great guy and qualified to be next the ex-officio Board Member. Mrs. Pittman: Our kids constantly amaze. Great job to Nora & John and the History Comes Alive presenters. Thank you to Lynn. Mr. Peters: Looking forward to Josh being on the Board. We should start a plaque honoring the student member of the Board. Today was fun. Dr. Fusco: Proud to have a young man like Jake on the Board. He is an old-soul and an asset and thank you. You have insight and compassion. Mr. Sabo: Echos what everyone has already said. Thanks to our students. They are the face of the school district. Mrs. Terbot would like everyone to know about the Sports Parents Booster Meeting that will be held on August 12th. We need to start making a statement. Thanked everyone for attending tonight.
