Welcome to Worship with Holy Communion...Name Tag Weekend at Holy Cross!
Be sure to visit the “name tag” table in the Narthex; and meet & greet someone new.
The Four Keys of Faith FormationThe Four Keys are provided to help you nourish your child’s / grandchild’s faith.
Scripture Readings for the Fifth Weekend after Pentecost:Lamentations 3:22-33; Psalm 30; 2 Corinthians 8:7-15; Mark 5:21-43
Family Devotions: Read the text from Lamentations. Christ is the One who gave his cheeks to the smiter on our behalf, who suffered abandonment for our sake, who knew firsthand the terror of feeling “utterly rejected” by God and God’speople. This will not be a simple “fix” to the challenges of life. It will not raise us to the clouds beyond the troubles ofthe world; it will bring God into the depths to share our terror and unbelief; and thus give us, in Christ, a place tostand, to kneel. Share such experiences with your child.
Caring Conversation: Discuss in your household or small group: Have you ever felt “stuck”? Have you ever thought, “I don’t know how I’m going to do this, or get through this?” Share about those times. Read the story of Jesus andJairus in Mark 5:21-24, 35-43. What different feelings do you think Jairus had as these events took place? How hasJesus helped you when you have felt worried, sad, or afraid?
Family Service: As Lutherans, we believe that we respond to what we have heard through the Good News of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ – given for you for the forgiveness of sins. Good works (good fruit) happens, and we do not even know about it. As parents, you can “create” opportunities for your kids to learn about service, with the understanding that service is not a “have-to” but rather a “get-to” – a “response-to.” Having heard the Gospelpreached, we move beyond ourselves, caring for our neighbor. Think about the Scripture verses for the week andthe conversations you have shared. God has gifted you and your children with abilities, personalities, and certainqualities. As a parent, family member, or friend, you can help them discover their unique gifts by encouraging them in the things that they do well and feel passionate that they can serve others.
Family Traditions & Rituals: Touch is an important God-given way to express love & care for others. In fact, sciencehas shown that humans need the touch of others to stay healthy in body, mind, and spirit. In your family prayer timesthis week, hold hands as you pray. Talk together about how you might use other forms of healthy and positive touch in your home, such as hugs, ‘high fives,’ and blessings.
Please continue... to save your Crossroads receipts and turn them in at the library: The Holy Cross library receives a percentage of the total purchases, which will be used to purchase books for the new library.
We have already been able to purchase 2 new books, thanks to you & this program!
