YOUTH GROUP ●June 30th—July 5th—Mission Trip to Nashville, TN

As we look forward to celebrate Independence Day we pray….

Dear God,

We thank you for the beautiful blessings

You have bestowed on us.

Guide us in being good stewards of these gifts.

Let us care for all of your beautiful creations,

from the redwood forests to the

gulfstream waters.

Make us instruments of your peace

in order to put an end to

rockets’ red glare and bombs bursting in air.

Help us to love and care

for all of our neighbors —

locally and globally —

so that we might be truly crowned with brotherhood

from sea to shining sea.

Amen.

A THANK YOU TO OUR ALTAR SERVERS!

Please take a moment to read the names of our Altar Servers who serve our church so faithfully throughout the year. We would like to recognize and give thanks for this glorious group of boys and girls who serve our parish at Sunday Mass each week, serve at the special Masses during Lent and Christmas, and participate in the special celebrations throughout the year (Confirmation and First Holy Communion). We thank each of you for your service and ask all those in our church today to take a moment to say the following prayer in their honor:

Lord Jesus, thank you for the Altar Servers who serve You during

the Holy Mass. In Your Sacred Presence, may their hearts be

filled with joy and peace. May Your Spirit always guide them so

they may grow in Your love by the grace of the Heavenly Father.

Amen.

THIRTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

June 30, 2019

First Reading: 1 Kings 19:16b, 19-21 Elijah the prophet followed God's instruction to appoint a man named Elisha as his successor. Elijah threw his cloak over Elisha, who went and said good-bye to his family, then followed Elijah without question. Second Reading: Galatians 5:1, 13-18 Paul reminds us that people were freed from the old law through Christ. But he makes it clear that this freedom does not mean giving in to evil desires. Instead, we must be guided by the Spirit and most importantly love our neighbor as ourselves. Gospel: Luke 9:51-62 Jesus set out for Jerusalem, and passed through a town where he was not welcomed. He reprimanded his disciples for desiring vengeance against the town. One man wanted to follow Jesus when he had finished his duties at home. Jesus expressed that a man who begins a task, but constantly looks back is unfit for the reign of God.

“As they were making their way along someone said to him, ‘I will follow you wherever you go.’ Jesus said to him: ‘The foxes have lairs, the birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.’ To another he said, ‘Come after me.’ Yet another said to him, ‘I will be your follower, Lord but first let me take leave of my people at home.’ Jesus answered him, ‘whoever puts his hand to the plow but keeps looking back is unfit for the reign of God.’”
