13th Sunday in Ordinary Time (Year B)

national Shrine of our lady of CandlesSa sini nga bahin, akon na man ipaathag ang Kasugoan sang Simbahan nga Katoliko nahanungod sa institusyon sang kasal bilang Sakramento.

    CANDLE LIGHT (June 28-July 4, 2015)

I believe that we must increase our awareness about the different situations of our families because in doing so, we will be able to do something to help the basic unit of our society, the domestic Church which is the family!

They cope unhealthily with the problems that they encounter in life.

ginahambal sa pangamuyo kay St. Michael the Archangel: Satan and other evil spirits prowl into the world for the ruin of souls. Madamo kag malapad ang concerns sang family life! Kon aton lamang hatagan sang pagtamod ang problema nahanungod sa Reproductive Health Bill nga subong nangin isa na ka layi, basi ma-miss out naton ang iban nga mga concerns nga importante man agud matipigan ang kabuhi sang pamilya.

Most importantly, let us make our families truly Christian families where Christ is at the center. Let us make our families prayerful communities where Satan and other evil spirits dont have power because Christ reigns in the hearts of each member of our family.

Relationship is a connection between an individual to another individual whether they agree with each other or not. It is a bond that we form while we are discovering the mysteries of life or while we are unraveling the life that the Lord has given us. We encounter some strangers along the way who will be a part of our life someday.I remember that time when our parents said, Never talk to strangers, they may have bad intentions towards you. Well, in most cases children disobey this order. They even have a nice conversation with a stranger. But if I did follow their orders that time, then I would never have met such wonderful people - people who have helped build me for what I am now.Being a part of the scholars program, I was given the opportunity to encounter

people with different stories and with different lives. Funny, how we feel being merely a strangers to one another at first; we dont even look at each others eyes nor talk to one another. Luckily, most of us are gifted in talking and approaching that even the awkwardness itself is nowhere to be found. The parish has many programs that the scholars had participated in these past few months. Visita Casa is one of them. It is a new program which we, scholars, together with Fr. Nathaniel, had recently done. This program enables us to visit the homes of our fellow scholars. We got to know them more and we listen to their

stories; how they surpass the challenges that God has given them. We give them our blessings and pray for their familiesIn this journey, we have developed stronger relationships with one another. We have learned to smile even if we have problems ahead and we laugh at the mistakes we have made. We have cried with them and worried about them. We joke around with words but we are serious in what we do. We argue sometimes and get mad because of some misunderstanding but we never left it unsolved. We may lack faith before but now we are strengthening it more. These relationships that we have with one another is now one step ahead in our journey and will continue to grow more as long as we stand together and with God guiding us in every step of the way.

Matt 11:5 quotes Isa 35. It is Jesus who guarantees our resurrection from the dead.

MANILA, June 25, 2015 It is not something new but Pope Francis citation of Filipino bishops in his groundbreaking letter on the environment shows that local efforts on caring for creation are on the right track, a church official said.In his nearly 200-page encyclical entitled Laudato Si (Be Praised), the pontiff cited a document of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines on the environment.Who turned the wonder world of the seas into underwater cemeteries bereft of color and life? the Pope quoted a CBCP pastoral letter on ecology when he talked about the destruction of marine resources.Right directionPublished in January 1988, the statement entitled What is happening to our beautiful land? is the worlds first pastoral letter of Catholic bishops on the environment. The landmark document was even adopted and published by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. After almost three decades, Laudato Si is said to be the Vaticans first major teaching on the environment and climate change.Archbishop Socrates Villegas, CBCP president, said the citation was recognition of the pastoral efforts of the local Church in the area of ecological stewardship.

It is an affirmation that we in the Philippines are in the right direction in teaching that creation is a gift that must be cared for, Villegas said. He, however, clarified that this was not

the first time the Pope cited the CBCP in an encyclical.According to him, the pontiff also quoted a

CBCP statement in his first encyclical, Evangelii Gaudium (The joy of the Gospel).Moral guidanceThe CBCP head said the Popes second encyclical offers moral guidance and seeks to address humanitys indifference to the earth. He said the letter provides perspectives on the need for a better approach to ecological problems and its effects to the poor.

This is why the Popes encyclical on the worrisome and truly pressing environmental and ecological issues should be truly exciting, Villegas said. While the churchs first major teaching letter on climate change is not about science, he said talks on the issue should not be left to scientists alone. The roots of our

indifference to environmental and ecological concerns which, in the ultimate analysis, are concerns for the good of all and the sinful dispositions in all of us that make us contributors to the depredation of a world entrusted to our stewardship, these are what scientists cannot teach us. All these, the encyclical promises to address, Villegas said. The CBCP chief then called on the faithful to heed the Popes call to preserve the environment and to protect communities from climate change consequences. We are still suffering from the sweltering heat of this summer, and hardly anyone will contest the claim that this was among the hottest of summers we have ever gone through. We are also warned about more erratic weather systems including more violent typhoons, Villegas added. But the Popes letter will remain nothing more than ink on paper until we all

allow ourselves to be won over by St. Francis exaltation of all of created reality, he also said. Caritas inspirationFor Caritas Internationalis President Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, the encyclical will guide the agencys work around the world for years to come.I visit communities where people are

    MES DE JUNIO

June 24, 2015. As he usually does before starting his weekly general audience, Pope Francis made a few rounds in St. Peters Square in the popemobile, greeting the crowds and blessing children along the way. In his catechesis, the Pope talked about the troubles that often rise in marriage. Pain and misunderstandings that come from words, actions or omissions. When wounds that are still repairable are

ignored, they become even more aggravated. They turn into arrogant attitudes of hostility and contempt. At that point, they can become

deep lacerations that can divide husband and wife. The Pope also talked about children. When spouses dont deal with their emotions, said the Pope, they often turn to anger and friction, which inevitably affects children.

When adults lose their heads. When they only think of themselves. When mom and dad hurt each other, the soul of children suffer. It triggers a sense of desperation. They become wounds that leave a mark for their entire lives. The Pope also added that parents cannot buy their childrens affection or compensate

to being one flesh and having a family, but then they obsessively think of their own wants, freedoms and gratifications...this distortion deeply wounds the hearts of children. With preparations underway for the Synod on the Family, in the month of October, the Pope also called for the Church to reflect on how it can better accompany those in so called irregular situations, which ofteninclude divorced and re-married couples. Are You Gods Child?Pureza D. Lacuesta

    Kids corner

Words from the GospelJohannah Ysabel F. Balagosa

If you are then, everyone around you is your brother or your sister. We are all Gods children, no matter who we are, and what we are. There are many religions existing in this world, but they still believe in one Supreme Being. We may preach the Catholic faith; take it to other nations, to other provinces, cities, or barrios, but even if we are dedicated to the apostolate, we cannot expect that our preachings and our noble examples will always triumph. In the cursillo for Christianity, the last rollo is: After Cursillo, what? This rollo is an appeal to the cursillistas to propagate the Catholic faith from home, to office, to educational institutions, to government and private firms, to far-flung barrios, in fact, anywhere, everywhere. After working in this apostolate, for some years with my husband, I decided to form the Junior Cursillo movement which was formed after the approval of the Archdiocese. Being a teacher in the elementary school in the District of Pototan I, I was given the responsibility of training the school choir and the speech contestants. I took the opportunity of organizing the Value Formation for children from Grade I to Grade VI. It progressed and inspired by the results, our District Supervision had a grotto built in the school ground near the library where we prayed the rosary every afternoon. The Iloilo Division Superintendent wanted me to go to other schools and spread the apostolate but I told him that I couldnt sacrifice my Saturdays and Sundays because,

    Venerable Tecla Merlo

while Monday thru Friday is for the school, my Saturday and Sunday are for the Church. My husband and I, did everything we could since 1950 and we only ended doing the apostolate together when he left for the U.S. in 1991.I am already in my waning years, but every time I have the chance to do my apostolate I do it, thru speaking and writing. There are some products of our apostolate who have become nuns and priests. Whenever, I have the chance to reminisce my experiences, I feel as if my strength is coming back and I want to go to the mountains again cross rivers and streams, walk in muddy ditches and meet strange people. While doing the apostolate, it is so nice to see that change in those who have been so hard during the seminar. The apostolate is a beautiful activity where time is forgotten, where the labor of love increases the desire to remove the nails from Jesus Hands and Feet, to wipe away the blood and perspiration from His Head, down to His Feet.Last year, the Principal of a Catholic school, requested me to conduct a Value Formation Seminar for her teachers and other employees. I did the lectures alone, and instead of getting tired, I enjoyed, while two of my children assisted me in the process.I am old in years but I can still recall the lectures of the seminar I used to give. Preaching is only one road leading to the temple of Gods children. There are many paths. At home, imbue the virtue of piety by teaching the household to pray the angelus,

and also the daily recitation of the Holy Rosary. If possible, have an altar at home where everybody will be reminded of Gods presence always.Today, when I look at the picture of God the Father, I regret that I have just practiced the devotion to Him in my waning years. Why? I ask myself. Why did I not discover this during my younger days, when Mr. Lacuesta and l were still at the height of our apostolate? We could have brought the devotion to God the Father to the barrios, to the cities, to schools, to the mountains, to offices, anywhere we went. I ask for help from Him when storms are expected, when friends and family members are sick, when a fire is announced, when drug abuse is rampant, when heavy drinking becomes dangerous.L et us start my dear brothers and sisters, to build a community of love. Forget harmful gossips and forgive harsh words and insults. Train your heart to forgive and love those who envy or hate you. Let love and forgiveness grow in the garden of our heart, fertilize them with the precious perfume of charity and water then with the drops of piety. Whenever we are tempted to be the opposite, let us remember how Jesus sacrificed as man because as God He could not feel any pain at all. He gave up His life on Calvary so that we will be cleansed and purified. Let us not forget the generosity of Jesus. Let us not forget God the Fathers love and His desire for us to be with Him in His Eternal Home.My question: What is life without God? How does a child feel in his Divine Fathers arms?

On June 29 the Church celebrates the feast day of Sts. Peter & Paul. As early as the year 258, there is evidence of an already lengthy tradition of celebrating the solemnities of both Saint Peter and Saint Paul on the same day. Together, the two saints are the founders of the See of Rome, through their preaching, ministry and martyrdom there.Peter, who was named Simon, was a fisherman of Galilee and was introduced to the Lord Jesus by his brother Andrew, also a fisherman. Jesus gave him the name Cephas (Petrus in Latin), which means Rock, because he was to become the rock upon which Christ would build His Church.Peter was a bold follower of the Lord. He was the first to recognize that Jesus was the Messiah, the Son of the living God, and eagerly pledged his fidelity until death. In his boldness, he also made many mistakes, however, such as losing faith when walking on water with Christ and betraying the Lord on the night of His passion.Yet despite his human weaknesses, Peter was chosen to shepherd Gods flock. The Acts of the Apostles illustrates his role as head of the Church after the Resurrection and Ascension of Christ. Peter led the Apostles as the first Pope and ensured that the disciples kept the true faith.St. Peter spent his last years in Rome, leading the Church through persecution and

eventually being martyred in the year 64. He was crucified upside-down at his own request, because he claimed he was not as worthy to die as his Lord.He was buried on Vatican hill, and St. Peters Basilica is built over his tomb.St. Paul was the Apostle of the Gentiles. His letters are included in the writings of the New Testament, and through them we learn much about his life and the faith of the early Church. Before receiving the name Paul, he was Saul, a Jewish pharisee who zealously persecuted Christians in Jerusalem. Scripture

records that Saul was present at the martyrdom of St. Stephen.Sauls conversion took place as he was on his way to Damascus to persecute the Christian community there. As he was traveling along the road, he was suddenly surrounded by a great light from heaven. He was blinded and fell off his horse. He then heard a voice saying to him, Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? He answered: Who are you, Lord? Christ said: I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting.Saul continued to Damascus, where he was baptized and his sight was restored. He took the name Paul and spent the remainder of his life preaching the Gospel tirelessly to the Gentiles of the Mediterranean world.Paul was imprisoned and taken to Rome, where he was beheaded in the year 67.He is buried in Rome in the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls. In a sermon in the year 395, St. Augustine of Hippo said of Sts. Peter and Paul: Both apostles share the same feast day, for these two were one; and even though they suffered

in different ways, they were as one. Peter went first, and Paul followed. And so we celebrate this day that is made holy for us by the Apostles blood. Let us embrace what they believed, their life, their labors, their sufferings, their preaching, and their confession of faith.
