Director’s NoteOne of the many things I love about theatre is that it is a collaborative art form. A show is not something just one person can pull off. The product you see on stage is the result of many different artists coming together for one purpose. From scenic painters to ushers, from choreographers to marketing professionals, it takes a village to put on a show. I truly believe that no matter what a person’s talents are, there are ways to utilize them in a theatrical production.

By participating in the theatrical process, these students who are a part of the FOA’s Young Artist Theatre programming are learning at a young age the impor-tance of working well with others as a team. I love hearing young artists encour-age one another by saying things like “break a leg”, or “great job today.” They are learning to foster positive environments that help people succeed in the long run, because they know one person can not do this alone. I think that is why at the end of a show, it is common for people to feel the “post show blues” because they grow close to the new friends they have made throughout the rehearsal and performance process.

Theatre and its collaborative nature paints a beautiful picture of what the world could be like if we all tried our best to work together. While the world around us has seemed so divisive lately, and while this season has produced some unique challenges of its own; I am so proud of each and every person who has risen to the occasion to keep the mission of the FOA and this show moving forward. I am so honored to have been able to work with artists young and old; it’s people like you who make the world a better place. To all of my fabulous parents and volunteers, thank you for your support and dedication to teaching these kids the importance of teamwork. To all of my kiddos, remember my first rule of theatre, “always be encouraging.”

Sincerely,Annie Clark-Roberts

Special ThanksAll students & parents, Production One, FOA Staff, Teresa Clark, Rebecca Orr, Cissy Mc-Masters, Erin Frangenburg, Amy Faughn, Amy Barrett, Stephanie Wright, Kristi Pulliam, Amanda Herget, Danna Ramsey, James Rich, Miranda Cavaness, Christina Poe, Lily Ow-ens, Jessica & Clare Kluttz, Ella & Lucy Scott & Matt King for listening to the same song

on repeat for the past two weeks.

A Very Special Thanks to: My “Dream Team”Nicole Scott, Costuming extraordinaire (seriously, you’re the best)! LeeAnn King, for

choreographing multiple music numbers in the span of two weeks. Emily Jenkins, for being the ultimate collaborator throughout the entire process! Cari Pulliam, for your gift

of creativity. Ian Buchanan, for your positive and infectious energy! Katelyn Stanton & Abi Mason, for stepping in short notice and running with the tasks given to you. Kenny Fields and J.R. Lawrence, for embracing my ambitious vision. Austin Roberts. He’s the

other half of the package deal that comes with me directing a show, but rarely gets the credit. Thanks for always taking my vision to the next level.

Hello FOA Family and Friends

Those in government have told us to educate and encourage all persons entering indoor facilities to wear a mask.

If you have a medical condition, or fully believe that you should not wear one, we have been told that we do not need to police this encouragement.

Due to HIPAA and the 4th Amendment we cannot legally ask you about your medical condition.

Therefore, if we see you without a mask, we will assume you have an excellent reason, and we will welcome you inside to support the mission of the Foundation of Arts. Otherwise, we would like to encourage you to wear one. If you do not, please do your best to keep a social distance while in a confined space.

If you are showing any symptoms of potential illness, please do not come inside. We would love to have you here when you are healthy.

We will seat you in the order you arrive from the front door of the Forum. Please be patient with us as we are doing the best we can to continue the mission. There truly are no “bad seats” in the Forum Theater.

Our plan was submitted to the State Capital and approved for FOA programming. We are following that plan. Further, we are constantly sanitizing & circulating fresh air throughout this building every day.

In compliance with ADA & HIPAA laws, the current guidelines, everyone’s varying expectations, and out of respect for your privacy, we are trying to walk an extremely fuzzy line because we believe in the FOA’s mission.

Thank you for your support & understanding. ENJOY THE SHOW!

A Heart for the ArtsWhen March, 2020 happened, I doubt any of us were fully prepared for the breakdown of our routine, the way we communicated with others, and for many of us, the way we pursued our life’s goals. We were being asked to choose between finding another way to accomplish what God was calling us to do, and stopping everything to wait and see what happens next. In a way, the FOA chose a combination of both options. As always, I did not want to see our choices as binary but instead looked for a third way. When the writing on the wall seemed to say, “Stop the mission, stop the programs, shut down and just get a check”, we just couldn’t meet the expectation so many had of us. Instead, we looked around for needs that the arts could fulfill in the community. Immediate needs will pop up in a crisis, and they did. Early on, our healthcare professionals believed that doctors and nurses and administrative workers would need childcare as schools were closing – so the FOA chose to open its doors to children of healthcare professionals with an Arts Recovery Camp. We wanted to help our community, to stay alive as an arts organization, and continue to serve in the way we could. The FOA’s mission remained the same, after all. We served 10 families through the FOA’s Arts Recovery Camp through the first 6 weeks of the shutdown, and at the same time, we continued our arts classes, teaching each other how to Zoom the classes we had promised our Arts Center families. Our staff had to be reduced because our income was drastically cut, and those weeks of daily changes and minute-to-minute crises were difficult, to say the least. As the realization became clear that the hospitals were not as taxed as they expected, the need evolved for childcare of essential workers, then business-people who just had to make a living. Today, 4 months later, we still offer Arts Recovery Camp, but we slowly have begun to offer more in the way of targeted classes in dance, theatre, and visual arts. And then Young Artist Theatre. The faith it has taken - in these times - to offer and participate in this programming is remarkable. The kids have learned technique and teamwork, and they have blessed each other as they will discover more and more even as hindsight serves them. Thank you for acting on your belief that the FOA could provide something for your child that could help them in this time. While I pray every day that everyone’s bodies remain healthy, I also continue to hold the belief that there are many aspects of good health in addition to the physical. And those aspects should be addressed daily, as well, just as much as eating healthy, taking our vitamins, and protecting against a virus. I honor each person’s choice to act in the way they are called during this crisis. My prayer, as always, is that the FOA will continue to be a blessing to all who choose it and that we, as FOA family and friends, will welcome all who are led here. Perhaps our little arts organization can continue to be what we’ve been called to be, an artistic and hospitable answer.

Rarely are our choices binary. And among so many lessons, theatre-done-well teaches us that there are several right answers to most challenges. This season’s group of teachers, sponsors, donors, and families (and their children) will forever remain special to me for your faith. Our staff and FOA family say ‘welcome,’ and thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

With a Heart for the Arts,Kristi
