Our Father Knows...and will take care of us.

Today’s readings call us to tackle the challenging issues of fear and trust — two concepts that must be confronted and dealt with by all of us who wish to live the stewardship way of life.

The Lord knows that facing down our fears and choosing to trust Him with all areas of our lives is an ongoing challenge for us. He is generous with reassurances to us throughout the Scriptures.

Today’s Gospel passage from Matthew is a case in point. In the span of eight verses, Jesus addresses the topic of fear four times: • “Fear no one.” • “Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot

kill the soul.” • “Rather, be afraid of the one who can destroy both soul

and body.” • “So do not be afraid.”

And the reassurance continues. “Are not two sparrows sold for a small coin? Yet not one of them falls to the ground without your Father’s knowledge. Even all the hairs of your head are counted.” Notice that Jesus says, “your Father” in describing God’s intimate knowledge and tender care for each one of us. He is truly “Abba,” our Dad, Who knows us inside and out. With that, let us all breathe a huge sigh of relief. All is well. Our Father knows us through and through, sent His Son to save us, and will always take care of us. Let’s stop wasting any more time with fear. Instead, let’s put all our energy, all our time, our talents and our treasure into trusting this great and loving God, using all that we are and all that He has given us to bring Him glory.

A Father’s Day

Prayer to St. Joseph St. Joseph, guardian of Jesus and chaste husband of Mary, you passed your life in loving fulfillment of duty. You supported the holy family of Nazareth with the work of your hands.

Kindly protect all the fathers who trustingly come to you. You know their aspirations, their hardships, their hopes. They look to you because they know you will understand and protect them.

You to knew trial, labor and weariness. But amid the worries of material life your soul was full of deep peace and sang out in true joy through intimacy with God’s Son entrusted to you and with Mary, his tender Mother.

Assure those you protect that they do not labor alone. Teach them to find Jesus near them and to watch over him faithfully as you have done.

Amen. - St. John XXIII

What Makes a Dad

God took the strength of a mountain, The majesty of a tree, The warmth of a summer sun, The calm of a quiet sea, The generous soul of nature, The comforting arm of night,

The wisdom of the ages, The power of the eagle’s flight, The joy of a morning in spring, The faith of a mustard seed, The patience of eternity, The depth of a family need,

Then God combined these qualities, When there was nothing more to add, He knew His masterpiece was complete.

And so, He called it … Dad.

Is God calling you to lead teens closer to Christ as a D-Group Leader? The cornerstone of our youth ministry is in relational ministry through Discipleship Groups (D-Groups). These groups consist of 1-2 adult leaders and 5-9 teens that journey together towards being disciples of Jesus Christ. This year, we need 25 new adult mentors to lead a small group and walk with them through life, starting in the Fall of 2020. A D-Group leader is: ages 18-118 who… Loves Jesus Christ and His Church, is willing to be trained & receive ongoing formation, & desires to lead teens closer to Christ by simply building a relationship with them & their parents. Check out our full info packet online: www.stmacatholicyouth.org/dgroupleaders or contact Ruth Gladitsch for a copy!

Restorative Justice, Healing and Forgiveness In the coming weeks and months, our cluster parish, St. Michael Catholic Church in St. Michael will be hosting a series of events on Restorative Justice, Healing and Forgiveness in collaboration with the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis. The first two events have ready been scheduled as follows:

Restorative Justice and Healing Circles Fr. Dan Griffith will be preaching at St. Michael Catholic Church in St. Michael at the 5:00pm Mass on Saturday, June 27 and the 8:30am and 10:30am Masses on Sunday, June 28 on the topic of restorative justice. There will be opportunity to experience healing circles firsthand after the 10:30am Mass.

The Imprint of Trauma Laura Harder will be at St Michael Catholic Church in St. Michael in Wednesday, July 8 from 6:30-8:30pm. Laura is a compassion fatigue therapist. She will be speaking on abuse from the survivor’s perspective. Attendees will gain a basic understanding of how trauma effect psychology and perception and what makes it difficult for survivors to move past it.

Both of these events should speak to survivors of abuse or other trauma—but also to secondary victims (those in the primary victim’s circle of friends and family who are impacted) and even supporters further removed from the trauma but who know, love and support the primary and secondary victims.

The idea of compassion fatigue, in particular, resonates with me. Compassion fatigue is the physical and emotional exhaustion that comes from caring for or about a victim of trauma, resulting in an inability to empathize or be compassionate.

These events respond to the clergy abuse scandal, but I am certain there are other examples of victims struggling for years to deal with traumatic issues or events, and good-hearted people who finally say, “That’s it—I can’t do this anymore.” In fact, I have seen it among friends and family in the aftermath of suicide or the death of a child. People lift up and support those in need in beautiful, selfless ways-for weeks, months, even years-but only to a point.

How do we push past that point and love as God loves? Let’s gather together in the coming weeks and see if we can find out. Whether you have felt the effects of abuse in the church or not, consider joining us. Watch the bulletin, website and our Facebook page in the coming weeks for details.

Do Not Let Your Hearts Be Troubled When she was 17, her mother told her the abortion would only hurt for a little while. But 40 years, 2 sons, and 3 grandkids later, it still hurts. If you or someone you love is grieving the loss of a child or children to abortion, come and experience the compassionate mercy of Jesus Christ on our weekend retreat. Rachel’s Vineyard Twin Cities' retreats are open to anyone impacted by abortion - women, men, grandparents, siblings, and health care professionals. The next retreat is July 31-August 2, 2020 in the Twin Cities area. For more information contact Nancy at [email protected],

“Man is born for action; he ought to do something. Work, at each step, awakens a sleeping force and roots out error. Who does nothing, knows nothing. Rise to work! If thy knowledge is real, employ it; wrestle with nature; test the strength of thy theories; see if they will support the trial; act!” St. Aloysius Gonzaga (June 21), Pray for us!
