Chamber Launches Chamber Business Spotlight Program

Starting the first Saturday in July, the Chamber will spotlight two Chamber member businesses each Saturday. The spotlight will be on social media and a Saturday email to the Chamber database. According to Chamber Board Chairman, Dave Zavoral, “We have so many great businesses who work quietly day in and day out under the radar that the Chamber wanted to give some recognition to.” He added, “We appreciate what each one does to contribute to our local economy!”

All current members will be featured randomly over the next several years. According to Chamber President Barry Wilfahrt, “With over 1,000 members this will take some time. However, each member is equally deserving of this recognition and people will enjoy learning about some of the unique things local businesses are doing.”

Chamber Partners with The Ralph and Visit Greater Grand Forks on “Grand Forks Goes Live”

With more and more people vaccinated and venturing out the Chamber and its partners really want live events to come back strong this summer and fall. To that end The Ralph, Alerus Center, Visit Greater Grand Forks and Chamber are partnering on a marketing campaign aimed at encouraging people to “Go Live.” This project is led by Jody Hodgson, CEO at the Ralph Engelstad Arena and the Chamber is pleased to be a partner in this effort.

Live events are the lifeblood of the hospitality industry in Grand Forks and the sooner we get back to pre-pandemic

levels of attendance the better it is for our business community.

Award-Winning Sports Venue Designer, Mike Wekesser, Promoted to Practice Studio Leader of JLG’s Sport Studio

JLG Architects has promoted Mike Wekesser to Practice Studio Leader of JLG’s Sport Studio. Wekesser

joined the JLG team in 2019 as a Studio Design Lead, bringing with him more than three decades of experience in sports-focused architecture. He will spearhead an experienced team that was pioneered by the late Lonnie Laffen, one of JLG’s founders. After joining the team, Wekesser worked closely with Laffen, who was considered one of the nation’s most influential architects in

sports design. In 2020, JLG ranked #20 in BD+C’s Giants 400 Report, recognizing the top architecture, engineering, and construction firms in the U.S. sports facilities sector.

As the head of JLG’s Sport Practice Studio, Wekesser is engaged in every aspect of the design process, from master planning to programming, design, delineation, and construction. The common element throughout his work is an adherence to creating innovative yet practical designs. Wekesser’s work is universally recognized for reflecting organic settings, while enhancing the culture and communities he serves. “I’m proud to be part of this outstanding team at JLG Architects,” said Wekesser. “From the start, we have shared a united vision for the future of JLG’s Sports Practice and I know that the best projects are still ahead of us.”

KLJ is Proud to Announce Senior Evironmental Planner

KLJ is proud to announce that Corie Ereth, Senior Environmental Planner, has received a permit from the United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) that

allows her to complete Dakota skipper butterfly presence/absence surveys. Dakota skippers are federally protected under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). Corie will be one of only a handful of people completing this important work across the Midwest. Over the past few years, she went the extra mile by shadowing permitted surveyors during the brief annual Dakota skipper flight period to gain valuable field experience.

Corie is an expert in environmental conservation and environmental planning. She has worked in coordination with private landowners, local, state, federal, and Tribal agencies. Corie is proficient in plant and ecological site identification and biological and botanical surveys. Soon after the Dakota skipper was listed as a threatened species, she collaborated with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the US Fish and Wildlife Service to develop a botanical survey method for identifying potential Dakota skipper habitat. Corie continues to work with federal agencies and industry, in an effort to protect the Dakota skipper and its habitat, understand its current distribution, and provide consultation to clients on ways to move their projects toward development.

Corie earned her Master’s degree in range science and her Bachelor’s degree in animal and range sciences from North Dakota State University in Fargo, ND.

Thirty-two years after opening their doors, JLG is a national pacesetter and home to over 150 employee-owners across 11 offices. As one of the 50 Most Admired Companies (MSN Money), the firm’s awards and milestones are many, in-cluding four recent promotions. He graduated from North Dakota State Uni-versity in 2007 with a Master of Architecture, a Bachelor of Architecture, and a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Design. In 2018, McLean was recognized for his accomplish-ments, volunteer work, and

Kehrwald brings in-depth knowledge of various project delivery models and is considered an expert at streamlining contractor commu-nication and design processes. While fostering a team mental-ity model, he delivers complex projects in condensed time-frames. The Drees family has been farming the Red River Valley since the 1920s and operating under our current structure since 1968. This means that we not only know the land, we respect the land – and we do what we can to take care of it. Because of this, more and more landowners are putting their trust in us.
