Let’s study another scripture. Hebrews 10:35-36, starting with verse 35. “Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.e word confidence means boldness, openly, plainly. When we have confidence, we are con- spicuous, possessing free and fearless confidence, cheerful courage, boldness, and assurance. e best picture I can paint here is one who knows that they can do all things and getting all things done in Christ Jesus. Verse 36 makes us to know this: “For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.Patience is one my favorite words because we often get it wrong. It means steadfastness, con- stancy, endurance; in the New Testament it is the characteristic of a person who is not swerved from his deliberate purpose and his loyalty to faith and devotion by even the greatest trials and sufferings. Patience is what causes us to get the job done! e promise is what we receive and car- ry away: e message of the resurrection! Stay with me. More on this subject next month! He is so worthy to be praised, despite what is going on. He’s still in control. Bless His name! I pray that the articles on forgiveness blessed your soul and liberated your spirit. Now let’s take the time to embark upon a new subject: Building Our Confidence. I want to take some time, with the help of the Holy Ghost, to examine what it really means to have confidence so that we can better deal with fear. Perhaps you are asking how can one take hold of confidence. How do we deal with doubt and uncertainty? How can we be sure of ourselves? Well, let’s allow the Word of God to help us with this. Is that alright? e Apostle Paul declared in Philippians 4:13 that he could “do all things through Christ which strengtheneth him.” Realizing that this is Paul’s declaration and testimony, and well proven, we, too, can have the same testimony. Let’s open this verse up for a better understand- ing. e word strengtheneth means to be strong, to endue with strength. Strength is simply the ability to sustain the application of force. Basically what Paul has said is this: “I have strength for all things in Christ who empowers me. I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him who infuses inner strength into me; that is, I am self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency.” Now that’s powerful! Sustaining the application of force! Let’s take some time and walk through the scriptures that deal with con- fidence. Along the way we will pause to define and amplify key terms. Hopefully we’ll get the understanding we need to build our confidence. Let’s start with Hebrews 13:6, which says “So that we may boldly say, e Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.e word boldly means to be confident, to be of good courage. We should be extremely happy to declare that the Lord is our Helper. What a con- fidence builder! e word helper means to aid, assist, remedy. Listen! The Year of Plenty

2020 The Year of Plenty

“Posture in the Pause”

We began the year with the mindset of having 20/20 vision and that this year would be our best yet and we would accomplish our goals and dreams. 20/20, the year of plenty and the fulfillment of so many of God’s promises that we had been waiting on for so long. I believe we are right in the heart of where God wants us. As documented in history, anytime we endure a drastic measure, calamity, or disaster in our world, we experience a shift in humanity.

Whenever God’s wrath was exerted upon the children of Israel, there would be a shift in their hearts’ posture. Many times, we become so complaisant in our daily routine we forget how to purposely and intentionally seek God for his guidance and direction for our lives. We implement our own agendas and fill our calendars with events and whatever else we can fit in to our overcrowded, overloaded, overrun lifestyles. I don’t believe this is done with the intent to do so, I just believe it happens to us subtly, it’s a clever and indirect way to distract us from our true purpose. I do believe the purpose for why we engage ourselves has the purest of intentions and with the hope that a life will be changed and possibly saved by our witness. The key component that shifts our busyness to become a type of bondage is called distraction. As I have re-looked my view of this time of “sheltering in place,” I have found a 20/20 vision view as the “Pause.” What does pause mean?

Pause is a temporary break in activity, the halting or cessation of something. So, in the midst of this season, we have been halted in our every day schedule of events to reassess our lifestyles. In Psalms, the word Selah is found 71 times and has been interpreted to mean: pause or to take a moment to reflect on what was said in the prior verses. Pause is given when an important point, instruction, or explanation is being given, in order to emphasize the magnitude or weight of that information. Pause causes for an interval in time in order for the more important thing to be identified and to gain our undivided attention. The purpose in this pause, I believe, has been given for us to reflect and regroup for the next level of our spiritual journey in which kingdom work will be paramount. We trust God in his sovereignty and for his protection. “Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance. Selah.” (Psalms 32:7). The pause has changed the course of time forever. Life as we knew it, will never resume, but I believe it will be much greater and God will be glorified.

The shift in humanity has people donating their time and resources to help complete strangers. We have imple-mented procedures to care for the homeless and less fortunate more than ever before. This is a reflection of the posture of the heart of humanity. What has been your view or your frame of mind? What does your heart posture look like? Has your prayer life increased, have you studied God’s Word more, have you showed love and compas-sion to the less fortunate? There may be some that have experienced loss of loved ones, income, or stability, but in this, God is still in control. He never makes a mistake. God has us right where he wants us. I still believe 2020 to be the year of plenty and this will be my best year yet. I will celebrate what God has done for me in the pause and continue to keep a heart postured to give him praise and to magnify him.

Dare to Dream!

Words of Encouragement

Building Resilience in trying times, God’s way!

During this COVID-19 outbreak, a time of uncertainty and economic hardship, it is easy to become fearful, anx-ious, and extra emotional. However, the Word of God says in Psalms 32: 7, “You are my hiding place; You shall preserve me from trouble; You shall surround me with songs of deliverance.” We also see in 2 Timothy 1: 7, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love and of a sound mind.”

Resilience is defined as the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties. Resilience is an important mechanism that can protect us from being overwhelmed. Resilience can help us to gain and maintain balance as well. Studies have shown that the biggest factor in overcoming difficult times is Resilience. Some call it perseverance, but God’s Word says in Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

I’ve put together some informative ideas on how to be resilient in trying times while maintaining healthy mental awareness. These ideas address what happens in the soul of mankind, our mind, will, and emotions. I like to say this is our chooser, where we make decisions and choices. You have to do the work to get the results. There are no quick fixes.

1. Focus on what you can control. Not only during the COVID-19 crisis but at all times. The only thing you can control is you. You are in control of what you say and do. That is why it is so important to be in God’s Word daily. Renew your mind with the truth of God’s Word. Romans 12:2 says, “And be not conformed to this world, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

2. Practice acceptance of self. Think about how you view yourself. Is your view in line with how God views you? God does not make junk. You are made in His image. You have God’s DNA. You are a child of the King of Kings. You are called to be kings and priests unto your God and Father. Jesus paid a precious price for you so stop judg-ing yourself and accept all of you, unconditionally. This requires self-compassion. You have God’s compassion for others, have self-kindness toward yourself.

3. Connect and communicate. Relationships are one of our most basic human needs. Communicate with God and communicate with family. Keep communication lines open. Don’t pull away from people but reach out and connect with others. During this pandemic, we have been quarantined but don’t stay in a mindset of isolation. Your pastor, your church family or your biological family is only a phone call away. Connecting with others and communicating what you are experiencing helps you to release anxiety and discouragement.

4. Reframe, Reframe, Reframe. Reframing is the ability to alter your view about a negative situation. Refram-ing allows you to recognize and appreciate the positive aspects of a situation. We can’t change the fact that this pandemic happened, but we can pray for wisdom to see it from a different perspective. Here is an example of re-framing: We’ve been isolated at home and unable to do what was normal. However, the Body of Christ has drawn closer to God and has sought His face and wisdom like never before. According to Romans 8: 28, “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” Look past this present situation and imagine the future improved and flourishing. Reframing teaches us to acknowledge our uncomfortable feelings but chose to trust in the Lord with all our hearts and not lean on our own understanding. Good can come out of suffering as we grow from glory to glory. Don’t blow up, grow up!

5. Stay in the presence of God by being aware that He is always with you. “He is a very present help in the time of trouble, “Psalms 46:1.

6. Maintain thankfulness. You’ve heard it said, take time to smell the roses...This is one of the greatest ways to just appreciate what God has made available for us to enjoy. Have an attitude of gratitude.

7. Physical ways: Stay hydrated, exercise, eat well and maintain the proper amount of rest.

8. Avoid negative outlets at all costs. People mask their pain by using alcohol or drugs. It’s like putting a band aid on a wound. Get to the root of the issue. The word of God is health to our flesh. Proverbs 4: 22 declares, “They (God’s Words) are life to those who find them, And health to all their flesh.” God is with you, saints. Call upon the Lord so you can go forward in “VICTORY.”

Let me quote Robert Schuller: “Tough times never last, but tough people do.”

Christians are not wimps, we are strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.

Blessings,

Pastor Vilma Everette
