It is incredibly rewarding to make a
difference to what our school can offer
our children as well as ensuring
equality of opportunity for all in the
school by subsidising trips, camps and
social events.
DATE

A different year with many thanks to:
Parent council for funding plants, the autumn outdoor learning week and
sand tools
Caroline McKellar and Ms Willazelleck for beautiful planting and the plant
stall
Carolyn Anstruther for planting with P1’s
Rod Urqhuart and Carolyn Anstruther for progressing the mud kitchen
Parents who volunteered to prune a branch by the huts
Anna Salman, Phoebe Cochrane and team for tireless uniform sales
Sarah Alexander for organising for us to inherit lovely plants from Sick Kids
Promoted the Great British Beach Clean, the Climate March (led by JGPS) and
supported the launch of the UNICEF Outright campaign
Sorry to say planting with most school years didn’t happen this year
Request: Volunteers to help move plants from next door (date tbc)
Also: Taken advice to rebuild the willow structure in the autumn
CLUBS REPORT
All clubs ran smoothly this year and given
the ongoing building works have not been
affected too much, any issues being
resolved with the help of Saara Reid and
teaching staff.
A plan for next year is already in draft to be
sent out to club leaders next week
including the extra in-service dates. This
will make for a smooth transition in to the
new academic year.

SPSFC Registered Players last 4 years
Totals Boys Girls
Total Club player numbers are
generally decreasing over past 4
years. Except from the girls group,
which has been increasing.
Although registered players
increased this current season
(2018/2019), which is encouraging.
Parents can register their budding
footballing daughters and sons online via

New SciennesFC football kit available for purchase at our online shop:
https://www.thefootballnation.co.uk/sciennes-primary-school
or ordered at the Football Nation shop at 128 Lothian Road, EH3 9BG.
Last season 2017-2018 the club gifted training tops with players’
initials for all registered players
This 2018-2019 season we donated free training tops to newly
registered players from P4 upwards.
Our goalkeepers now also have use of fantastic, distinctive
Sciennes goalkeeper’s tops. And finally, our parent coaches can
now also purchase coaches tops – great to see so many taking
advantage of this as it contributes to positive “club” spirits.

Players & Coaching developmentWe have noticed there has been an increase in our players joining
extra-circular football clubs, such as Edinburgh South (Boys) and
Boroughmuir Thistle (Girls). In the Girls p6/7 team alone, we have
almost 60% of the girls playing for Boroughmuir Thistle FC, one
playing for Hibs FC under 14s and one playing for a special Scotland
FC development team.
P7 Boys reached final and runners-up of Meadows Festival Cup
P6/7 Girls reached final and runners-up of Sciennes Summer Cup
P6/7 Girls play final of EPSSA Girls Football Summer Cup
15/06/2019 at 10:30am at Meggetland against Mary Erskine’s
All of our coaches are PVG checked and registered
Our coaches continue to expand their knowledge and training skills
by completing Scottish Football Associations level 1 (child’s
pathway) courses. This is a tremendous testament to their
dedication and keenness to help our children. Euan Alexander
(P2/3 Girls coach) enjoyed completing level 1.1 in November 2018
and I, personally, enjoyed completing level 1.3 at Clyde’s football
stadium in December 2018. Phil Boyle (P1 Girls, P5 Boys) achieved
level 1.2 in February 2019.

CommunicationsWe launched our first ever website (www.sciennesfc.co.uk) to bring everyone up
to date with Club activities and opportunities at the end of February 2019.
We continued to communicate activities on our Facebook page
To maintain Data Protection, our Club continues to be registered with Information
Commissioners Office (ICO). Copy of certificate is available upon request.
Winter & Summer FairsWe had an enjoyable Winter Fair in December 2018, with our stall raising £110 in
sales from our interactive tv football game, football badge card game and
second-hand football kit sales.
Summer Fair in June 2019 was popular and helped raise £150 in sales from our
target shooting goals game and top trumps card game.
P1 Football introductionWe welcomed and introduced P1 Boys (24) and P1
Girls (8) on Saturday 27th April 2019 to our Football
Club. So far we have attracted a sizeable number of
parent coaches and volunteers
