Pentecost is NOT a Season:
As I have learned and grown in my ministry life over the
past 25 years, I have become fascinated with the rhythms
of the Christian calendar. The calendar begins with Advent
and journeys headlong through Epiphany, Easter and
Pentecost and on into “ordinary time” before cycling back
again. The rhythms of this calendar can help us as we take
our own journey in the Word of God as well as our
journeys we take together in our corporate worship.
One thing has stood out to me as we have approached
Pentecost which this year occurs on June 9th: Pentecost
is NOT a season. Pentecost is the day that The Church
becomes The Church. It’s also the day that the Holy Spirit
unites all believers together and dwells within them
personally. What was the result of this “infilling”
presence? Acts 2 tells us that everyone who looked on -
the outsiders heard “them declaring the wonders of God
in our own tongues!” When the Spirit of God fills the
Church - the result is that the rest of the world will hear us
use our tongues to declare the wonders of God - to
declare GOSPEL. May it be so for the Church of the
Nazarene in Coeur d’Alene!

MISSION MOMENTS
This month I’d like to share the Missional opportunities available to all of you in the Church. As Gods people we are each very unique and each called to minister in different ways, but that being said we all must do something. You may be the only one able to come along God in the work he is already doing. So please prayerfully consider volunteering, if God so leads!
LOCAL MISSION OPPORTUNITIES
Volunteers always needed UGM: The need is ongoing for guest speakers and musicians.
Young or old your testimony and song is needed. It involves travel to Spokane Union Gospel Mission and about 1.5 hours of your time.
FAMILY PROMISE: Spend 1 night at a one of our sister Nazarene Churches with a homeless family. Or if you’d rather just cook a meal for about 10 people that would also be appreciated. We have the week of June 9th through June 16th (Sunday thru Sunday. Kurt Petelin and I are slated for this Sunday but many more days are still available.
QUEST: Many, Many opportunities exist in this exciting ministry help-ing the children that come to us in the summer.
ANGEL TREE: I have a need for someone to call the Angel Tree Children for free Summer Camp Scholarships.
“If we have the desire to serve and come along side God in what he is already doing, he will provide the abilities you may feel you lack!”
FOR INFORMATION ON ANY OF THESE OPPORTUNITIES PLEASE CALL ME. Bob Allen @ 208-659-8971.
Thanks and God Bless!

Pastor Fred
Do you know how many elderly people we have lost in the last 15 years? About 5 years ago, Church ad-ministrator Sam Hunter did a count, and in the previ-ous 5 years, we had lost 68 people due to passing
away or moving into assisted living. The previous 5 years back to when I arrived at our church in 2004 was a similar story. When I began teaching Sunday School a year after my arrival here, my class had about 25 people. Today, that class is “no more” and not many people from those precious days are now with us. Losses are a part of life. Eventually we will all “pass through the veil” to eternal life when we have trusted God‟s grace and mercy. God extends His grace to all people and not everyone accepts! … but in the meantime, God has called us to good deeds to honor Him.
Are we helping those who are ill or aging in their life journey? Our needs change. Mine have changed! As we age, or are ill, we usually lose physical abilities or memory, and live more needy lives. Visitation is im-portant. Helping and encouraging those in need is vital, and often can make or break a person‟s view of the church. The Church is God’s and every-body’s church. It is not just “Pastor John Doe’s” church! We are all mem-bers of the body, and …
God has put the body together and given special honor to the part that doesn't have it. God's purpose was … that all of its parts should feel the same concern for each other. If one part of the body suffers, all the other parts share its suffering. If one part is praised, all the others share in its hap-piness. You are Christ's body and each of you is an individual part of it. I Cor 12:24-27 WEB
In April, I was honored and humbled when so many people traveled to Tri-Cities for my ordination. It was an affirmation of the love of God‟s peo-ple to me! Thank you! You shared my joy as I have shared in yours many times. In a bigger way, let us care for those we know who are in need, whether elderly or with disability, illness, or troubles, … those whose abili-ties are trending downward. Isaiah 58 tells us that God will “give us light, answer our prayers, and guide, satisfy, and strengthen us if we take care of ‘our own flesh’ (family) and the helpless and those in need.” (my para-phrase). Please, find and take time to be of assistance to those who are suf-fering the effects of aging, especially when they are „our own flesh‟, includ-ing our own church family. Let us remember that we are on the same type of journey. We will one day need help and encouragement in the form of real deeds, as we also age!
Shalom… Deep Peace of God to you. Pastor Fred: 208-659-9050

A HEART OF FLESH
I will give you a new heart... of flesh (Ez 36:26). What a strange phrase, a “heart of flesh”. What God created was good, made in the image of God. However, we are sensitive to the reality that now the world is bad, filled with demons and sinners. It follows that He would miraculously re-create us, who are redeemed by the blood of Jesus and give us newness of life. Jesus has made something new happen that is wonderfully human and requires us to get on with life in a new way. “So the real issue is not,” says Walter Brueggemann, “how do miracles happen? The real issue is, what shall we do with Jesus? Shall we trust Him like the
man and obey him like the spirit and be raised? Or shall we con-tinue in our recalcitrant disbelief that leaves the world closed and close to death? Jesus summoned and constituted an alternative community of which we are heirs. Imagine that a small communi-
ty set down in the midst of the empire and all of its aggressive militarism is a small community that refuses to participate in the anxiety of the world, because it imitates birds and lilies in the sure confidence that the Father in heaven knows our needs and sup-plies them.” We remember that Jesus said, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” We can see that this new heart is not otherworldly but very much earthbound. The “pure in heart” of the Beatitudes is the very same new heart of flesh. In these “jars of clay” we are no less than the re-created children of God... in the flesh. Like Jesus we are the incarnation
of God by the Holy Spirit. We have become living breathing vital temples where Jesus’ own heart can dwell for all to see.... IF we trust Him with all of our hearts. Lord, thank you for this powerful new heart of flesh that can live and love like Jesus!
