for imparting knowledge, proficiency, ethics and efficacy to comprehend the modern and

advanced technologies and to produce qualified Engineers to serve the nation.

M1 : To make teaching faculty proficient in imparting knowledge and inspiring the

young aspiring Engineers.

I am glad to know that Department of Mechanical Engineering from Panimalar

Institute of Technology is publishing its special issue of the magazine to commemorate

the 5 years of its service to humanity. It is my honor and pleasure to write a few lines about

this prestigious Department as the bells of the resound in the ears of everyone who is

related this Department as beneficiaries, supporters, collaborators and friends. I

congratulate the Department on having made a significant impact on the lives of so many

bright minds, and inspired so many of our community leaders to support the cause of

education. The motto all`s well when done well" speaks volumes about the spirit of the

School, and inspires the budding students.

This Department, as in the case of every other Department, had a small and humble

beginning. It had its ups and downs during its five years of existence. In spite of its glorious

feat as one of the best Department in Panimalar Institute of Technology. It never

commercializes education but continues to remain an institution of service, catering to the

educational needs of buddy engineers. Panimalar Institute of Technology has tried its

best to excel in all departments of its students` growth. The specialty of this institute is that it

has made quality education accessible to all, high and low, rich and poor, thanks to the

highly motivated staff and the availability of quality infrastructure.

I take this occasion to congratulate the Principal, staff, students and parents for

their strong sense of commitment, service and responsibility that has transformed this

institution into an outstanding and significant temple of learning today, as I have myself

witnessed this spirit among you. Now at this landmark of completing 5 years of love and

service to all, I wish you God`s abundant blessing for manifold successes in the years

Department of Panimalar Institute of Technology. On this Occasion, I wish to congratulate

past and present Principals, Teaching and Non-Teaching Staff, the students, on this

commendable achievement.

I have great pleasure in conveying my best wishes to all of you. Mechanical Engineering

Department has a reputation for attracting the best students in their chosen faculty. It is a

matter of great pride that the College has made consistent progress, year on year, in

academic and co-curricular activities.

The role played by its alumni in the overall development of the personality which

has been enabled by the various co- curricular and cultural activities taking place in the

Mechanical Engineering Department is also appreciated.

Challenges and Opportunities are two sides of the same coin. Modern education,

curriculum development and teaching methodologies have to keep pace with the demand

of the economic environment. The manager, businessman and the entrepreneur of today

needs many more weapons in armory. Holistic education should include all round

development of a student.

Overall development of the individual is the goal of education and we all

have to ensure that there is no stone left unturned to equip the student of today for the

challenges of life. This will require tremendous self-motivation on the part of all concerned but

will be fulfilling for the student as well as the faculty.

The faculty at Mechanical Engineering Department has always been a trend setter but

what has also been noteworthy is the excellent support and commitment of the non-teaching

staff. I wish to congratulate the entire faculty and other staff for encouraging and guiding the

students in all facets, for their well rounded development.

Panimalar Institute of Technology at Nazarathpet, Chennai with innovation, creativity,

It gives me immense pleasure to welcome you to the creative world of PIT which has

very eco-friendly campus and is equipped with state-of-art infrastructure. We have well

equipped labs, workshops and libraries to help students in attaining highest standards in

academics, research and professional skills. The campus has adequate sports

infrastructure to take care of Sports and recreational activities.

Creating better human beings‟ is our motto and we can do that when we are able to

mould our students to be good human beings with values which are embedded for life. We

aim to provide an overall development that nurtures them towards becoming strong and

focused human beings. Soft skills and educational skills is what the institution seeks to

provide every student at the campus itself through its PIT PATTERN.

Dear Students,

Welcome to the new academic year 2015-16. We have many challenges in this

academic year. The NBA committee will be visiting our department. As we planned for the

submitting the relevant document for fulfillers of NBA committee, we put maximum effort to

achieve this target. This is the first time that we are applying for NBA accreditation and I

hope that our department will get the accreditation. I am very happy that many teachers of

our department are enrolled for Ph.D. program and their research will not affect in their

teaching. Our under graduation program is going on successfully and our UG students pre-

sented no. of papers in national and international conferences. We plan to go for P.G.

Courses for the next academic year. After the successful publication of two consecutive

year of our magazine „MECHORN‟ the next Volume 3‟, Annual achievement of Mechanical

Engineering Department, is edited by Prof. G.Gnanakumar. We are thinking to have student

contribution in the magazine.

It gives me great opportunity to present the third issue of MECHORN Volume 3, Annual

achievement of Mechanical Engineering Department. The Year was full of various activities by

the students and faculty in academic, co-curricular, extra-curricular as well as research &

developments. Most significant developments include the emergence of design center and the

modernization of manufacturing technology laboratory. New techniques, designs and more

computing power are driving significant advances in the instrumentation engineering. While

going to press, the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) committee visit is scheduled soon;

this will give us the chance to see the reflection of our progress and achievements. Wish you all

Brake drum wear behavior and coupled field analysis of A 355/15 % of

Sicp Aluminium matrix composites sliding over friction material

ABSTRACT

Brake drum wear behavior and temperature of aluminium metal matrix composite

(Al MMC) sliding over friction material has been compared with the commercial light

vehicles brake drum material grey cast iron. The wear tests have been carried out on a

pin on disc machine and thermal analyses have been made on FEA software ANSYS8.1.

Pins as friction lining material of 8 mm diameter have been machined from a brake shoe

lining of a commercial passenger car. The grey cast iron disc has been machined from a

brake drum of a commercial passenger car. The Al MMC disc has been manufactured by

induction casting technique. The wear behavior and temperature of Al MMC, grey cast

iron disc have been investigated at different sliding velocities and loads. The present

investigation shows that the MMCs have considerable higher wear resistance and

temperature than conventional grey cast iron while sliding against automobile friction

material under identical conditions

DESIGN FABRICATION OF HYBRID FIBRE COMPOSITE

MONO-LEAF SPRING USING CARBON AND E-GLASS FIBRE FOR

AUTOMOTIVE SUSPENSION APPLICATIONS

ABSTRACT

Leaf spring is one of the main components and it provides a good suspension. It

plays a vital role in automobile application. It withstands lateral loads, brake torque,

driving torque in addition to shock loading. The present invention relates to motor vehicle

rear wheel suspension systems. It is a mono leaf spring assembly that is interchangeable

and made of composite material to manage various property requirements. Even though

there are many different types of rear suspension systems available for use in motor

vehicles, the conventional leaf spring is most widely used. As the vehicle travels,

tremendous forces mostly in terms of fatigue load can be applied to the leaf spring

assembly, particularly at its connection point with the rear axle. In rear-wheel drive

vehicles, during acceleration the leaf spring is subject to twisting forces which are

opposite in direction and magnitude to the acceleration of the drive wheels. Due to this

repeated twisting and untwisting, bending moment is produced at the middle of the leaf

spring. The force does not affect the neutral axis but the portion below the neutral axis if

affected by compressing load and above the neutral axis is affected by tension load.

Other suspensions can be used which provide sufficient strength under such conditions.

Accordingly, there is a need for a leaf spring assembly which provides high-strength to

weight ratio while being simple in design and low cost. What is also needed is a leaf

spring assembly which is readily interchangeable to alter the suspension qualities of the

assembly. The present invention fulfills the need of enhancing the fatigue behaviour

along with weight reduction by adding carbon fibers to glass fiber in polymer matrix. This

process is called hybridization.

Abstract

The customer satisfaction mainly depends on employee working in an organization.

Human life has become very complex and completed in now-a-days. In modern society

the needs and requirements of the people are ever increasing and ever changing. When

the people are ever increasing and ever changing, when the peoples needs are not

fulfilled they become dissatisfied. Dissatisfied people are likely to contribute very little for

any purpose. Job satisfaction of industrial workers us very important for the industry to

function successfully. Apart from managerial and technical aspects, employers can be

considered as backbone of any industrial development. To utilize their contribution there

problems are to be identified and rectified and they should be provided with good working

conditions. Any business cab achieve success and peace only when the problems of

workers are felt understood and solved, problem of efficiency absenteeism labor turnover

require a social skill of understanding human problems and dealing with them scientific

investigation serves the purpose to solve the workers problems in the organization. A

case study is given in this paper, about what are all the problems that the employees

facing in State Bank of India.

Job satisfaction is the amount of pleasure or contentment associated with a job. If you

like your job intensely, you will experience high job satisfaction. If you dislike your job

intensely, you will experience job dissatisfaction. Job satisfaction of an organization

workers us very important for the organization to function successfully. Apart from

managerial and technical aspects, employers can be considered as backbone of any

organization development. To utilize their contribution they should be provided with good

working conditions to boost their job satisfaction.

I didn't know that the happiest moment of my life

happened during my college life

At first I thought it would just be a normal life

and I did not expect something happened in disguise.
