EVS News Interviews with previous EVS volunteers
Guilia “How is my life after the EVS experience? My life didn't change, in Italy I still have my house, my family and my friends but I, personally, changed. This EVS experience opened my mind and my eyes, I feel, finally, a citizen of the world, there are no borders and I have a lot of friends to visit everywhere. I decided to be involve myself in an EVS in order to better understand what I would like to do in the future. I still don't have the answer but I have some more information, step by step I will built my future. This EVS was amazing, I met and shared ideas and feelings with people form a lot of countries: Latvia, Spain, Georgia, Greece, Serbia, Romania, Turkey, Czech republic, Slovenia... and Cyprus...of
course! To speak with this people gave me the opportunity to see different point of views about life, I was able also to see my country, Italy, with other eyes. This EVS was my first experience "alone" in a foreign country, and it gave me the opportunity to test myself and discover a lot of things about me. Now I feel full of positive energy and more self-confident. Living in Cyprus was so beautiful that I decided to come back, now I am living in the ecovillage in Tris Elies and then I will go in Mexico for 2 month for be volunteer in a refugees house. Now I am doing exactly what I would like to do and above all, I am happy! So don't wait... travel and be happy! “

Estefania “Hello everyone from Spain! I’m Estefanía,
an ex-EVS volunteer in KEY NGO. First, I
want to render thanks to all people I met
while I was living in Cyprus. It was an
unforgettable experience where I had the
opportunity to meet a lot of fantastic
people from all around the world and
people who gave me the best memories of
my life. I perfectly remember the day I left
Cyprus and I came back to Spain. It was a
day full of emotions. My thoughts were
like everything passed very fast and short,
I got used to live in Limassol with my girls,
and everything was perfect! Better I could
imagine it! And suddenly, I arrive to
Madrid. To see again my city after 6
months was like nothing happened.
Nothing changed. Everything was the
same. My friends and family as always,
doing the same things while I was learning
everyday something new in my Cypriote
life Do an EVS gave me more confidence
with myself. To do an EVS gave me more
confidence with myself. It gave me the
opportunity to know more myself,
knowing my strengths and my
weaknesses. Know what I'm capable of.
Learn about other cultures, other ways of
thinking, to meet people who taught me
many values. Learn, mature, grow and
live. Definitely EVS changes you for the
better. And above all, you improve your
English! And you learn other languages.
Thanks to EVS, I have open doors for many
jobs. Have an experience abroad, it gives
you job opportunities. Believe me, since I
arrived, accept me for many jobs. I am a
different Estefanía, safer in what she does
and what it is capable of. I perceive it, see
it and feel it. So definitely I recommend to
anyone in the world to be encouraged to
do an EVS. It’s an experience difficult to
describe in words and pictures, you have
to experience for yourself. Building
bridges in Europe.”
Zane “During my stay in EVS, one of my old
course mates asked me – when I will come
back to reality. In that moment I said to
her, I am in reality, reality which I have
chosen. I would say that people, who
stops dreaming are living in their created
cages. EVS wasn’t my first or second stay
abroad, so I have already used to go
totally new place, take that risk, and
simply know exact date when this part of
my life will finish. Now I can say that
following your passion, dreams and
interests is reality. Since I am back in my
native country, I feel that life has little bit
stop on one level. But it is not forever,
because life line stays on the same level,
only when person is dead.
As far I am following, I see that KEY
haven’t stop growing and develop. I am
grateful that I was in the beginning of the
KEY’s first steps as an organization with a
premises and people. I wish strength,
wisdom, knowledge and success to KEY
and to all its future volunteers.
Greetings from Latvian girl, Zane!!!!

Ilaria “After 2 months since the end of my EVS I
am so glad and thankful of such a great
experience. Sometimes I feel also sad
because I would like to go back in time
and live it again. Now, I’m looking for a
job.
Thanks to this EVS I met interesting
people, I learned new things, I improved
my strength and I faced my fears. Now I
feel more open-minded, able to face new
challenges and more mature.”

Domenico “I came here one and a half month ago
and it’s my first experience abroad.
Until now I feel fully satisfied; every day is
a new challenge, a new opportunity to
learn, an amazing chance to meet people
from different countries and to be
involved in the Cypriot society. Being an
Italian from the South I feel so

comfortable here and Limassol reminds
me home.
According to the schedule I have to
promote our Ngo on social media and to
organize campaigns for our events. This
allows me to discover more about the
world of social media marketing.
Furthermore, along with the other
volunteers I work on three night events
per week developing new skills and
meeting new people. Until now has been
the best way to get in touch with new
cultures, traditions and mentalities.
In the morning I go to the Charity Centre
helping volunteers there to provide food
for poor families. This allows me to get in
touch with that part of society affected by
poverty and unemployment who has been
increasing because of the economic crisis
in Europe.
Finally, I am working on my personal
project about Italian lessons. Through the
methods of non-formal education I would
like to let people get some basic tools in
order to be able to speak and understand
Italian.”
Marie “Almost two months spending in different
country, surrounded by new people and
listening non mother tongue. Something is
strange, is not it? Challenge. This is the
word which describes my impression of
EVS experience in Cyprus. During two
months I had to break the language
barrier, try to understand other cultures,
be more independent and think about
how I can put as most as possible myself
to be an active volunteer of KEY. Until now
we are organizing events like movie night,
intercultural night and evenings where we
are playing board games. I am glad for this
experience. Our EVS team is planning
everything together in advance,
promoting and evaluating. One of the part
of our activity is to help people through
activities in charity. Sometimes we have to
face new situation but it is worth to do
that. Undescribed feelings after. So
another four months I would like to take
my time and do as much as I can, set up
goals which I want to achieve from EVS!
Another personal challenge is coming…
As you can recognize from the name of
the NGO, the KEY is a tool which opens the
door. Everybody is welcome to join our
events and activities. I was thinking a long
time what to do as my personal project. I
was watching people who are coming to
our events, some of them are from foreign
countries and they feel a bit alone in
Limassol. According to this fact, I decided
to establish International KEY club which
will gather people from abroad. This group
will have a regular meeting where they
can plan activities together (trips, going
out, culture events, etc.). I really hope that
these kind of socializing will help people to
feel better in Cyprus. One of my other idea
is to create a little guide book about
possibilities of youth exchange here. Do
you want to know how you can be a part
of the non-formal educational project in
Europe with the support of European
Union? The guide book will be ready for
you in one month!”

Maura “I came here almost one month ago.
Actually I share a nice house with the
others, I’m feeling really happy with them.
I’m happy for the organization which hosts
us, because all of them are nice and kind
with us, and they tolerate my English even
if it isn’t so good. In our organization we
have a lot of work to do, and I’m learning
a lot of new thing. I learn, for example,
how to create a website, how to organize
events and we started Greek lessons. My
topic in particular is linked with the local
organization, so I have to organize and
coordinate the event that will be
implemented in our organization, and try
to create a connection between “KEY
NGO” and people who live here in
Limassol.
We have also to propose a personal
project: I would like to create and EVS
Guide Book that can collect and describe
all the NGO operating in Cyprus. In this
way people can easily find and know how
many and which kind of EVS experiences
are available in Cyprus, and I hope that
this guide can help us volunteers to create
a network in order to know and help each
other.
I also help other guys with their project, so
I think that the strong point of our group is
the collaboration. We created a good
atmosphere and even when we work hard
with other guys, it is always enjoyable and
funny. I feel very lucky to be here, and I
suggest to everyone to do the same!”
Walid “I have been living in Limassol for one and
a half month and I can say that I am really
enjoying my EVS experience so far. Every
day is a different day, making the
experience more interesting and exciting.
Throughout the organisation of our three
main events (game, movie and theme
nights), I had the opportunity to meet and
share moments with a lot of people, from
locals to other EVS volunteers living in
Cyprus. Moreover I am happy about my
integration to the team and feel so
comfortable with Cypriote culture and
lifestyle. This first part of my EVS allowed
me to face new situations and to start
learning about how to organise events.
The best part of the EVS is coming with
summer time and I will try to do my best
to make it even better.
One of our mission at KEY NGO is to
develop, on a personal bases, a creative
and innovative activity that will be part of
the organisation’s actions. My idea is to
create an event that can gather people
into a talent show (PS: of course not like
TV show “UK got a talent”). So far, this
“KEY Talent Show” will include a stand-up
comedy show, a break-dance show, a
magic show and a theatre performance.
Every new idea you may have is welcome.
The aim of this event is to bring to light
talents of people from different
backgrounds and hobbies, in order to
share a funny moment but also to show
how differences in a community can lead
to richness.”

Local Events
In order to involve more people and let them know more about our activities and projects,
until now Key Ngo has organized 4 game nights, 3 movie nights and 3 intercultural night.
Every time we found a topic inviting people to join us in our yard. Movies like “Nuovo
Cinema Paradiso” and “La Haine” as well as Italian and French night have been the
opportunity to find out more these cultures, beliefs, values and issues. The movie “Before
night falls” about the Cuban poet Reinaldo Arenas made people discuss and meditate on the
LGBT rights. Through games and activities we have also tried to make people aware of the
methods of non-formal education.
Every event represent a unique opportunity to meet people from different countries, to
discuss about relevant topics, to get in touch with different cultures building a stronger
network of relationships.

Friends of KEY Interviews of Marie and Adamos
Marie Evangelidou: to KEY with love
“Hello everyone! My name is Mary
Evangelidou and I am 24 years old. I come
from Limassol where I am currently doing my
master’s degree in Journalism and European
Studies. In my free time I like to travel around
the world.
I was always interested in youth projects,
exchanges, non-formal learning and
volunteering, and been a member of a few
organizations in the past. Last year I randomly
discovered KEY NGO.
KEY NGO was searching for participants
through a Facebook page for a project in
Limassol they were organizing, so I decided to
apply. I have been to many projects before
and I have honestly never met more dedicated
and passionate volunteers anywhere else.
All the members of KEY made me feel like I
was a part of their family for years. Helpful,
friendly volunteers organized a great project
with the help of a well-educated trainer of
course. Further activities and projects
followed with KEY where I met more amazing
people.
What makes KEY NGO special are, as I already
mentioned, its people and the activities they
organize. KEY’s lodge is an old, traditional
house in the heart of Limassol which the
volunteers managed to turn into an innovative
place where events such as movie nights or
language courses are organized.
KEY NGO always has something new and fresh
to offer. One can never get bored of their
activities or projects simply because they are
always renewing their ideas according to their
people’s needs. I have already recommended
KEY to my friends and will continue to do so as
everyone deserves to live these experiences!”
Adamos Stavrinou: The reasons I like KEY
“Hey guys! My name is Adamos Stavrinou and
I am 21 years old. I come from Limassol
where I currently study my bachelor degree in
Communication and Internet Studies. In my
free time I like to Photoshop images and
editing videos.
I found out about KEY NGO some months ago
from my girlfriend who was already a
member. As I found out, this organization has
a lot of activities going on, most of them
involving cultural awareness of other
countries.
Through the projects of KEY I learned more
about European Union in general and the
problems it faces. Furthermore, I met a lot of
people from countries which I had never
heard before. Also, I had the opportunity to
see the House of KEY which is a wonderful
place with a huge colorful garden. The
volunteers organize really good activities
which include charity events, movie nights,
game nights and cultural nights.
I will always follow KEY NGO because I like it
so much.
Keep it up guys. Cheers!”
