soccer, hockey and Jesus!Vasya loves sports — soccer and hockey are his favorites. This sixth-grader from the Ural Mountains of Russia plays whenever he can, but there are no organized teams at his boarding school ... it’s a school where a lot of boys and girls are sent to when they get kicked out of their own schools.

They’re the kind of students who get involved in a lot of mischief — and though Vasya tries to be obedient, he finds himself in trouble with the teachers quite often.

When the Hosanna Plan team came to his boarding school to conduct a game day, Vasya was thrilled! He loved all the competitions, and he even enjoyed the team’s presentation on how to be a champion. He learned that the greatest champion was Jesus.

Vasya and his friends received the Champions Book of Hope, and Vasya decided he wanted to be a champion for Christ. Today, he is learning and growing in his new faith!

“I want to be a champion, too, and I am finding life with Jesus — it is not hard,” he says. Thank you for reaching out to Vasya and his school with the Good News! By God’s grace, and through your prayers and support, lives are being transformed.

Churches and missions teams in Russia will also be using the Champions Book of Hope to present God’s Word to young people during the World Cup soccer tournament and into the summer. please keep these outreaches in your prayers! The potential for impact is limitless!

India: Coaching for Life CRICKet Program 2014-2015

Cricket is popular throughout India — this program is being piloted in 20 Indian states!

World Cup 2014 • Brazil

Like many nations with historic ties to Great Britain, India has a strong population of cricket fans.

We’re tapping into this enthusiasm through our partnership with International Sports Coalition and the new Coaching for Life cricket program. It introduces the Bible’s metanarrative of redemption in conjunction with cricket skills and life values.

The 16-session program is also suitable for pakistan and elsewhere in Southern Asia where cricket is popular — designed for children ages 9-12, it helps young people understand a relationship with God, and it builds character attributes such as integrity, self-control and more.

please be praying for this new program, and the young cricketers to be impacted.

Thank you to everyone who invested in Russia’s Olympics outreaches earlier this year. From January 1 to March 31, you presented God’s Word to 600,000 children and youth through Olympic-themed events!

Olympics — Russia outreach update

The Olympic edition Champions Book of Hope touched thousands of young lives, and The GodMan film was also used in many outreaches.

The Sochi Olympics provided an exciting opportunity for ministry. We saw seven different church denominations united in using OneHope Scripture engagement programs for special events, in addition to six major ministry partners including Hosanna plan, Sports Coalition, Awana and Athletes in Action.

Among the organized events and outreaches:

Local partners organized Winter Games and Olympic Fan Zones for young people in several cities — and were blessed to have the support of civic administrations and youth committees in many areas!

Specially-trained leaders and coaches, along with children’s ministry leaders, held training sessions and sports competitions in the open air and in skating rinks. All participants received the Book of Hope and a Gospel presentation.

Olympic viewing programs were held at many churches which have their own church buildings. These big-screen showings of live events attracted big crowds — and the program integrated the testimonies of Christian athletes.

Onsite in Sochi, local churches united to distribute the Book of Hope to 100,000 children and youth before, during and after the Games.

40 Hosanna plan teams did special events and sports outreaches in schools throughout Russia.

harnessing the power of sports

Thank you for supporting your Russian brothers and sisters in reaching the next generation with God’s Word during the Olympics! Thousands of lives were touched by your faithfulness and prayers!

Basketball is a sports obsession in the philippines!

We’re excited about our partnership with the International Sports Coalition and the new Coaching for Life program.

Philippines and China — Basketball Frenzy

Africa and India: Coaching for Life

harnessing the power of sportsOur partners at Sports Ministry Coalition asked us for a Scripture engagement program to use with basketball camps, clinics and outreaches, and with your help, we’re delivering the new basketball themed Champions Book of Hope.

The 34-page magazine-style book tells the story of the “greatest champion who ever lived” — Jesus Christ — and challenges young people to think, act and live like champions. It also contains the Scripture narrative, and several articles responding to the heart-felt needs of Filipino teenagers: relationships, integrity, success, respecting authority and others.

Sports camp and club leaders will use the Champions book as the basis for their devotionals and discipleship lessons. We expect to reach at least 150,000 Filipino young people with this special program this year!

A similar outreach isin development for China with pilot programs planned for this fall. please keep these two important efforts in your prayers.

A powerful Scripture engagement program for Christian coaches to use with their teams, Coaching for Life links a biblical story, life skill, and soccer skill together in one practice, in a way that can be easily communicated and allows the stories and skills to reinforce each other.

each team member receives a card at each practice with an illustration of the new skill on one side, and the Bible story on the other side. And, each session highlights the truth that God is our Father and ultimate Life Coach.

In 2013, the Coaching for Life program touched the lives of 150,000 children in Southern Africa and 150,000 in India. Based on our surveys of its feasibility and effectiveness, we’ll soon be rolling out the program to other nations.

Right now, the program materials are being translated into French, Spanish and portuguese — and a new Coaching for Life cricket program is being developed for India. (see page 3)

A personal word from

President Rob HoskinsDear Friend,

I meant to tell you earlier ...

With the FIFA World Cup beginning in just a few days, I know this is a little bit of short notice to tell you about all the World Cup outreaches our partners have planned, in Brazil and 14 other nations across the globe — but last month we were finishing out the China/north Asia matching challenge, and there was just no time to prepare you for this ...

Yet I know the OneHope family is the greatest family of partners on earth, and I believe that you will be ready to pray and give so our partners can harness futbol fever and use these critical moments to reach the next generation with the Good news.

Our sports-themed outreaches won’t end when the World Cup is over. As you can see, we have basketball outreaches in the philippines, a new cricket outreach in India, ongoing sports camps and clinics in Russia, and so much more.

You are making a global impact with the destiny-changing Word of God. I know He will bless and reward you for it.

Thank you.

World Refugee day: June 20

You are positioned to bring hope to the refugee children and youth of Syria, through an innovative new outreach requested by our partner churches in the region: a short film which can be used by relief teams to speak to children and their families.

Although in most cases we are unable to distribute God’s Word in the camps, teams are able to bring aid, pray, and host church services. They believe a film which chronicles the journey of a refugee family and delivers a narrative of redemption will speak to the hearts of impoverished children and young people in the camps.

The production is in development now, and filming will begin in September. please be in prayer for this new effort — it should be adaptable for use in other nations for other refugees, which will make it a program with long-term potential.

The four siblings seen here have all chosen to follow Jesus Christ — because friends like you sent the Book of Hope to share the Gospel with them.

But they can’t show their faces in the photo because ... they have been targeted for death due to a blood feud in their homeland in Albania.

The horrifying practice of blood feuds has claimed thousands of lives over hundreds of years. These little ones are under a death threat because of a crime committed by one of their family members.

please pray for God’s protection, and for His peace to bring a new and better way for the children and families of Albania.

Why are they hiding their faces?

In 2014, OneHope reached its billionth child — a young girl in China — with a relevant Gospel message. This

year OneHope will reach nearly one hundred million additional young people with Scripture programs that are

age- and culturally- specific based on research it conducts among children and youth, leaders and educators

in each country it works. Since 1987, OneHope has helped kids experience God’s Story by collaborating with

by bringing a message of Hope to children and youth in more than 100 countries. www.OneHope.net

He had two passions — soccer and drinking.

Like millions of teenagers in Brazilian slums, Anderson was a hard drinker, and a fanatical soccer player. He knew that he was heading toward addiction, but he couldn’t stop himself.

Then during the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, Anderson joined in some soccer matches organized by a OneHope partner church in his neighborhood, and received his own copy of the special-edition Champions Book of Hope.

He read it cover-to-cover, even filled in all the questions in the back of the book ... and there discovered Christ’s love for him, and the plan of salvation. For weeks he read, and re-read, the book, devouring all it had to tell him about how to be a true champion.

“God’s Word. every Child.”

saved from addiction

Anderson came to know Christ through the World Cup outreach in 2010.

“this book radically affected my life,” he says today.

Anderson chose to dedicate his life to Christ, and found that his new faith gave him the strength to quit drinking.Today, he is a faithful member of the local church, where he is growing in God and constantly sharing the story of how his own life was transformed.

Thanks for sending the Good news to meet Anderson at his point of need and bring him hope for eternity!
