Putnam County will reap the benefits from three major and two minor projects to- taling more than 70 million dollars. Not only will it create local construction and support jobs but it will put us in a better position to further develop our downtown and have less congestion around our industrial and technology parks. Because this is such an impor- tant issue we are sure that our Chamber members and the general public will have many questions and we want to make sure that you have the information to make an informed decision. On June 27, we have invited a representative from the Regional Commission, Connect Georgia and GDOT to come and answer your questions about the sales tax and the projects that will be covered. These rep- resentatives will be available to talk with you from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the Lake Oconee area (location TBA), and from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at The Plaza Arts Center. After a banner year, the Chamber celebrated our 33rd Annual Awards Banquet on Monday, May 7 at Rock Eagle 4-H Cen-ter banquet hall. Business leaders from the area enjoyed a full meal catered by the 4-H Center, as well as fellowship with other business owners in the community. The Annual Awards Banquet honored those in the community and Chamber part-ners who have excelled in several categories including: Busi-ness Person of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Citizen of the Year and the Edward Rice Youth in Excellence. Please see the insert for full details and a recap of the evening’s festivities.

On Tuesday, May 15, Maximum Retail kicked off with the first class! Since beginning, the participants have taken the classes “Know Your Customer, Sales and Service Enhancement, and Loss Prevention and Security. Maximum Retail is a five week series presented by the Small Business Development Center, made possible by a One Georgia grant.

On Wednesday, May 16, Networking @ Noon was sponsored by Putnam General Hospital at The Plaza Arts Center. Members con-nected and formed new friendships through conversation cards over lunch, one minute introductions / commercials and ended with plenty of time for some general “around the room” networking. Ev-eryone enjoyed the sponsor presentation from Heather Thrift, as well as the delicious lunch catered by the Hospital.

Coffee Connections was held Tuesday, May 22 at Spillin the Beans. Members enjoyed great conversations over coffee and pastries while meeting with board members Marty Phillips of Techknow Gurus and Marcia Clanton of Putnam County Charter School System. Members brainstormed ideas for getting more Chamber members involved and how the Chamber can instill a passion for all citizens to shop and buy local in our community. On Thursday, May 17, the Chamber Board of Directors and staff held our annual planning retreat to discuss the needs of our busi-nesses and innovative ways the Chamber can lead our community. Throughout the day, we learned about the TSPLOST; reviewed our mission; engaged in a SWOT analysis; created goals, visions and a strategic planning committee; and discussed possibilities for a new event that would bring in tourism revenue. The Chamber Board and staff are excited about a prosperous 2012-2013 year and look forward to leading our business community. We are here to serve our members and be the voice for business; please contact us any-time with feedback and to let your voice be heard.

Liberty Builders held a Chamber Open House and Greene County Chamber Business After Hours on Thursday, May 24. Members en-joyed music by Tim Cadiere and a delicious spread of food while touring the Irish Pub and beautiful grounds and gardens. Monday, May 7 The eatonton-putnam chamber of commerce held the annual awards banquet

The Chamber hosted the banquet at Rock Eagle 4-H Center dining hall. Business leaders from the area enjoyed a full meal catered by the 4-H Center, as well as fellowship with other business owners in the community. The Annual Awards Banquet is a true celebration of the economic impact these busi-ness leaders have shared with the community. For a community to remain strong, its businesses must provide quality services, products and a deep-rooted desire to improve the community on a daily basis. The Annual Awards Banquet honored those in the community and Chamber partners who have excelled in several categories including: Business Person of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Citi-

zen of the Year and the Edward Rice Youth in Excel-lence. All were nominated and voted on by a selec-tion committee made up of community members and Chamber members.
