Greetings all,
This past month I have been working on mysermon forecast through Christmas. This is atime when I sit down, read through theweekly scriptures that are to be read eachSunday, and then come up with some ideas
for sermons. I also take this time to think ofideas to enhance your worship experience.
As I read and wrote, I began to think aboutwhat we do when we come together eachSunday for those sixty to seventy-fiveminutes. We all come for different reasons. Some come out of habit, others come tolearn something new or to be reassured of
something they learned in the past. Still oth-ers come to seek the presence of God in theworld and their lives. Many come for thecommunity. For whatever reason, or combi-nation of reasons you come, I am thankfuland I enjoy seeing your face.
Worship is a wonderful act but, it shouldntbe contained to, or thought of as, the one
hour or so we meet on Sunday mornings. Our worship, our adoration, our gratitudetowards God should be a constant act. Ourlives, our words, our actions, should all bean outpouring of thanks towards our creator.
So this summer while you are out travelingto see friends or family, sunning yourself by apool or on a beach, on a mission trip or at
camp, think about worshiping God throughall of your activities. Give thanks and gloryto the One who gave you the ability to enjoythese activities. May your summer be aworshipful experience!
Blessings,

CONGREGATIONAL CARE (continued)
Thank You
I wish to thank my family and friends for their cards, their calls, their visits, and the flowers. I especially apprciate the visits from Tom and Andy Gans. Most of all, thank you for those prayers. This I ask in Jesus namfor Christs sake. Amen. Nancy Redheffer.
Christmas In JulyHow God Answers Our Prayer and We Listen!
During the month of July, there will be a Christmas tree in the Narthex with angels. Each angel will containname of one of our homebound and others who will benefit from some extra FKPC care. Families will take aangel(s) from the tree and visit, pray, telephone, and perhaps invite that person to your home. This will be aopportunity for the family to put their creative heads together and think outside the box. What a glorious Gowe serve, and he is always there for us, so let us be Christ-like and reach out to others.
Earth MattersBy Lucy Beebe Tobias
Here is an act we do every day and take for granted pouring water into a glass.
Now look at the picture and tell me is the glass half full or half empty?
It is a serious question in todays world. Well be asking this question every night during theadult education part of Vacation Bible School from June 24-28. Join us in the Session Room! In
fact, well even vote every night is that glass half full or half empty and tally all the results. This years VBS theme is clean water for all Gods children.
Take another look at the water in the glass is it clean, drinkable, will we die from drinking it? There arhealth laws to protect us, right? But around the world, an estimated 1.1 billion people are without access tsafe water (UNICEF, 2004) and 1.6 million people die each year from dirty water and poor sanitation (WorlWatch). Perhaps, like me, anything that is six digits or more boggles the mind, making it hard to know what do. Lets start right here at home with conservation we need to insure when we turn on the tap, water wcome out to pour into that glass. It is not an unlimited resource.
Here are some small things we do:
Water for steamed vegetables is cooled then taken outside to water plants. The water used for boiling potatoes makes excellent water for making bread. Rainwater is collected in rain barrels (well talk about this at VBS) A five-gallon bucket in the shower collects water as it is being heated for your shower.
Someno nos:
Dont run the faucet while you brush your teeth. Dont think washing dishes by hand beats the dishwasher, turns out the dishwasher is actually more wate
efficient. Make sure not to run the dishwasher until it is completely full.
Mother Earth thanks you!

Sunday Seminars for Adults
Earlier this year, Rabbi Tom McNeil led us through a study of Jesus of Nazareth covering what it was like tolive in the top down society that existed under Greek, Roman and Judaic cultures. The classes then movedinto a study of the parables of Jesus all the while remembering the lessons learned earlier.
Some of the parables already studied include the Parable of the Unforgiving Debtor, the Widow and the Judge, the Parable of the Talents, and the Parable of the Unmerciful Servant. As there are many parables of Jesus, the study will continue into the summer months.
Come join us every Sunday morning! Classes begin at 9:15 and are held in the Session Room. Coffee is avail-able.

WORSHIPWORSHIPWORSHIPWORSHIP
Something to Think About
Book of Revelation Chapter 19
Apocalypse of John
We will focus on Chapter 19 ofThe Book of Revelation Apocalypse of John, because it represents wor-ship in the early church of the late first century and early second century CE. It is an amazing statementbecause
* It presents a theology of history that says there is meaning, purpose, and direction in/forhistory; it affirms that God is somehow involved in human history in spite ofholocost; and,* It proclaims the conquest of imperial state and cultural systems that distort/twist/crush hu-man beings by controlling/manipulatinghuman life to fulfill their vision of man as a political ani-mal (see Aristotle Politics Book I).
TheBook of Revelation is clear-eyed, no mixed-messages or confusion, no gray-areas; it is a vision of the
future: God is involved in human history to liberate all human life from its own idolatrous self-madetraps. No question about it: its language and imagery are overwhelming (recall the movie ApocalypseNow of the Vietnam era); we tend to be put off by such. On the other hand, Greco-Roman society andculture would not have understood the message ofRevelation 19; so, what better way to communicatehope for the future to those undergoing Imperial domination/subjection!
Onto Revelation 19: The Worship of God* verses 1 8: hallelujah hallel + Yah(weh) = Praise God. Compare Psalms 111-117,146-150 (TheHallel Psalms) in which Hallelujah occurs forty times, all within the context ofworship (Synagogue).
- vv. 1-2: The Hymn of Praise to God, versus Rome has corruptedthe whole earth.- v. 3: Antiphonal Response by the multitude, i.e. the Church.- v. 4: Antiphonal Response by the elders and all living
creatures.- v. 5: Antiphonal Response from the throne for the
servants= the oppressed=the Poor=the Church.- vv. 6-8: The Hymn of the Church Triumphant even in
persecution and under domination: The Almightyreigns is in direct contradiction toEmperor Domitiansdeclaration (81-96 CE) that he was dominus et deus
noster = the Almighty. A note: he liked catching flies, and then stabbing them with a sharp needle: a cruel man!
* verses 9-10: The Messenger speaks (the meaning of angel in Greek):- Blessed are they who are called to the marriage supper of the
Lamb (compare Luke 14:16-24).- The leader falls down to worship the messenger who responds:
I am a fellow-servant with you I hold with you the witness concerning Jesus The witness of Jesus is the Spirit of prophecy, and,

worship God!Prophecy isnot foretelling the future but it is addressingwith ones life the idolatry of Imperial power to mold human lifein the image of a Caesar/Pharaoh that misuses and abuses humanlife; to witness to the life of Jesus of Nazareth is to address that
idolatry! This is prophecy!
The remainder ofChapter 19 of Revelation gives a vague description of the Battle of Armageddon;there is no detail other than the violence and bloodshed that occurs in the battle because thewar between images (state and culture versus God!) is historical; future historical events cannot bedescribed in detail, because the form of the conflict between the images is always changing.
What is perfectly clear is this: the worship of God in/by the Church is the recognition and confessionthat we are made in the imago Dei/image of God, (Genesis1), not in the image of Caesar or any socio-cultural system which creates a new form of slavery. The Churchs worship of God proclaims hu-man liberation from any form of socio-cultural domination that enslaves us.
The church is the new exodus in the midst of new forms of slavery to and domination by a societyand culture. Armageddon = the great tribulation = the war of ideologies is the Churchs contin-ual historical reality and struggle. Jesus of Nazareth made this perfectly clear before the Church wascreated. To be the Body of Christ (Paul) in the world means we have to figure this out for ourselvesin our time and place, not just be religious!
The question is: do we follow Jesus of Nazareths model of active non-violent resistance to socio-cultural oppression, or the Revelation-model of a violent blood-thirsty God? We have to figure thisout for ourselves. Clearly the history of the Christian Church has opted in favor ofthe methods of Cae-
sar instead of Jesus And who do we say we worship?
Please read John Dominic Crossan 2008 God and Empire in particular Chapter 5 (Re Revelation): heraises important questions.
Something to think about. And something to do differently.
Shalom,
Tom

Skill Day Center - Best In Show
The Presbytery of St. Augustine held its second annual Peacemaking Art Show
May 1 in conjunction with its spring meeting at Camp Montgomery. The thewas "The Peaceable Kingdom" as envisioned in Isaiah 11 and was reflecthroughout the morning in sermon and song and in the presentation of the Jim Ervin Bullock Peacemaker Award.
This year, prizes were awarded to the best of the youth entries in the art show. First place went to the childrenthe Skill Day Center here in Ocala for their group interpretation of the theme. To create a 3 X 4-foot wall hangthey wove fabric, cord, yarn, and ribbon into a framework of needle-point canvas. The eclectic assortment of fibrepresents the varied expressions of humanity coming together as one, People are all colors and types, some flasome plain; some thick, some thin; some tightly integrated, some at loose ends; some rich, some ragged; some domining, some retiring; some confined to place, some wandering adventurously--but all beautiful when brought gether. Attached to the weaving are scriptures that speak of peace, and representative animals of the Peaceable Ki
dom, predator and prey alike, content to graze and lie down together. At the bottom, hanging like a fringe, are names of the SDC children, who learned about peaceful cooperation in order to accomplish this group undertaking
The Skill Day Center is a faith-based after-school homework help and enrichment program founded to serve a nfor at-risk children in the Busby community of west Ocala. It is run entirely by donations and the services of volteers. Fort King members who make the SDC part of their volunteer ministry include Harvey Bohner, math tutor; Susan Jensen, art teacher. The $250 prize for their first-place art show entry is given by the Presbytery from the Peamaking Offering to serve the cause of peace in these children's lives.
Fort King was also represented in the adult (non-competitive) division of the show. The "Brokenness Restorstained glass piece from our Lenten/Easter theme was entered by Andy Gans. A hymn written for the occasionSusan Jensen reflected our call to be peacemakers. It was chosen to be the theme hymn for that day's worship.
