There is a virus in Brambleton that is spreadingthroughout the community. This dreaded virus isknown as Common Area EncroachMENTitus. While you may not have caught this virus directly,it is possible that you have been affected by itthrough your neighbors’ actions. While this virusis considered dangerous and needs immediateattention, there is hope!

Brambleton’s common areas are there for theuse and enjoyment of all Brambleton owners, residents and their guests. No owner or residentshould make exclusive use or claims to anyportion or parcel of common area. Commonarea encroachment occurs when an owner, resident or individual makes unapprovedimprovements, modifications, or alterations tothe common area. Encroachment can occur in anumber of ways such as when an owner builds afence beyond their property line; plants treesand shrubs in the common area; installspersonal play equipment in the common area;dumps yard debris or other unwanted materialsin the common area; clears the natural area orthe wetlands buffer behind their property. Thesymptoms of this virus affect how neighbors andresidents of Brambleton can use and enjoy thecommon area.

To avoid catching the virus, don’t make plans toimprove the common area without going throughthe adopt-a-spot process; refrain from placingpersonal equipment or materials into theCommon Area; and do not dump anything intothe Common Area. If you’ve already caught thevirus, the best and most effective relief is a self-administered cure. Possible steps to takeinclude removing personal equipment from thecommon area; allow the natural area torenaturalize; or removing any dumped piles ofunwanted debris from the common area.Choose the cure or cures that best works foryour strain of the virus. These immediateactions can help to stop the virus dead in itspath.

If owners and residents have a difficult time self-curing from this virus, the BrambletonCommunity Association has a few remedies itcould administer. The community’s Declarationgives the Association the right and responsibilityto operate and maintain the common area in theinterest of ALL owners and residents. If virusesare found by association staff, owners will berequested to remove the personal property fromthe common area. If this does not cure thevirus, then the association will perform advanced

As a planned community, Brambleton has certain recordedcovenants which require its owners to take certain actions topreserve the aesthetic nature and character of thecommunity. These responsibilities can be found in TheDeclaration for Brambleton and in the Design Guidelines forBrambleton.

The Brambleton Community Association also has certainresponsibilities outlined within these documents. One of thoseresponsibilities is to enforce various covenants and

Most changes to the appearance of your lot or exterior of your home require submission andapproval of a Design Review Application. For more detail, see The Design Guidelines forBrambleton. The following are examples of common exterior modifications which require anapplication:

Please note, Brambleton’s builders do not provide the homeowners association with informationregarding options which may have been included with the purchase of your home, as such; we mayidentify these modifications as requiring an Application. A copy of your options sheet from thebuilder may be submitted in lieu of the Application.

teams and clubs are invited to participate in this

year’s YouthFest, June 25th at the Brambleton

Town Center. PTA’s, PTSO’s, and booster groups

are also invited.

Free exhibit space is being made available to

these groups so they can provide information

about their activities and accomplishments to

other teens. Groups are encouraged to feature

some type of attraction or game with their

exhibit. “We want these groups to be creative,”

said YouthFest Coordinator Kristin Garrett. “They

can set up carnival style games, a craft, a

competition, even inflatables.”

New this year, student groups have the

opportunity to do some fundraising at YouthFest.

They can sell snacks, t-shirts, spirit wear or

whatever represents their group.

Student crafters and businesses may also have

free exhibit space at YoutFest. “There are so

many talented teens in the community that

make items such as jewelry and cards. With a

YouthFest exhibit space, they can display and sell

these items,” said Garrett.

Additional exhibit space and sponsorship

packages are available by contacting Kristin

Garrett at [email protected] or calling

(571) 439-4725.

Redistricting has beencompleted; Brambleton isnow in the Blue RidgeDistrict and I am your newrepresentative to the Boardof Supervisors.

As you may know, Irepresented this area fortwo terms prior to the last

redistricting. At that time my district includedSouth Riding, Middleburg, western Loudounfarms, and even part of Leesburg. Among thethings I’m proud of accomplishing during thoseyears was convincing the Board of Supervisors tobuild Briar Woods High School and Freedom HighSchool simultaneously, ahead of schedule. Thatdecision saved millions of dollars and served theimmediate interests of two communities. It is anexample of my record of serving simultaneously avariety of communities – suburban subdivisions, towns, rural villages, and open farm land. Ienjoyed representing such a diverse district then, and I’m sure I’m going to enjoy it just as muchnow.

Serving these various communities has given mea broad perspective for governing. While eachcommunity may be distinct and have its uniqueissues and needs, there are common themes

that bind all of us together – the need for goodschools (preferably in our own neighborhoods),affordable taxes, a safe environment, anadequate transportation network, and an honestgovernment responsive to our needs. It is mygoal to do everything I can to make thesepossible for you. I have always concentrated myefforts on addressing these common themeswhile pursuing specific solutions for eachindividual community’s needs.

My wife and I want to get to know you, and giveyou an opportunity to get to know us. We’re only20 minutes away, in Aldie, and will be spending alot of time in Brambleton. In June we will behaving dessert at the Blue Ridge Grill on the firstfour Thursday evenings from 7:00 to 8:00. Weinvite you to join us for coffee and discussionsabout any topic you wish. I look forward togetting to know you and serving you.

My office door is always open, and if you can’treach me there (703-777-0210) please feel freeto call me at home (703-327-4299). If you wantto receive my periodic district newsletters, e-mailme at [email protected] to be included onthe mailing list. In addition, to learn more aboutme, some of my past efforts as a representative, and my goals for the future, I invite you to checkout my website, www.jimburton.org.

Hello Brambleton!

As a Brambletonian, some

of you are aware that a

portion of Brambleton is

now in the Blue Ridge

Board of Supervisor’s

District for voting. This

applies to those of you

who vote in the Briar Wood High SchoolBriar Wood High SchoolBriar Wood High SchoolBriar Wood High SchoolBriar Wood High School,

Legacy Elementary Legacy Elementary Legacy Elementary Legacy Elementary Legacy Elementary and PinebrookPinebrookPinebrookPinebrookPinebrook

ElementaryElementaryElementaryElementaryElementary precincts.

Every ten years the County evaluates the district

lines based on the census. Ten years ago we had

approximately 169,000 people in Loudoun

County and now we have around 312,000.

Therefore some districts needed to shrink and

some get larger in order to equalize the

population in the districts to about 40,000

people per district.

As a candidate, I am excited to be representing

Brambleton and am aware that as a community

you have some different needs from the rest of

the Blue Ridge District. You chose to live in a

great community and you should have the

support from your elected representatives to

protect and improve it for you and your family.

It is time for the Blue Ridge District to move up

to modern times and take advantage of voting

for someone in who is current with citizen needs,

willing to have a transparent open-door

government, and truly willing to work to bring

economic development and new businesses into

Loudoun County. Having served on a Town

Council I have experience with these needs and

of the need for the County to work with all

members of the community.

As a mother of three, I understand that it is

preferable not to have to drive out of the County

you live in to go to work. It is also helpful to keep

people in the County working during the day, as it

helps our local economy. It is equally important

that we focus on quality of life as a whole in the

community through solving transportation and

school issues.

Fostering quality of life as an “Advocate for the

Community” is what I am about, and I look

forward to meeting with you when I come door to

door. I look forward to hearing from you about

your concerns and interests. Please feel free to

contact me.

Kids love fishing, and it’s pretty clear why. Noother activity combines quality time with momand dad with worms, frogs, slimy fish and mud.For kids and adults alike, such a combination isalmost guaranteed to create lasting memoriesand moments of genuine hilarity.

To celebrate all of the things that make fishingwith kids awesome and smelly, Ashburn Patch isthrowing the first ever Ashburn Kids FishingPhoto contest on Saturday, June 4.

The contest is simple. All kids12 and under areeligible. On June 4, take a kid fishing on any lakeor pond in Ashburn and start snapping photos. Then, post your best photo toashburn.patch.com, and we’ll select winnersfrom all of the entries and award prizes. Thephotos don’t even need to have fish in them, just shots of the kids having a great time fishingin Ashburn.

Like any good infomercial, there’s more! AshburnPatch will join up with the Brambleton CommunityAssociation to host a kids fishing celebration atthe Brambleton Community Center on themorning of June 4th from 7:00 am to 12:00noon.

Come on by to pick up free fishing educationalmaterials – such as coloring books, posters andcertificates of participation – from the VirginiaDepartment of Game and Inland Fisheries, meetsome of the Ashburn Patch editors and writers,as well as some of our sponsors and specialguests (to be announced, stay tuned).Brambleton residents can make the quick walkfrom the community center to one of the nearbyponds to get their fishing on.

Don’t have a fishing license? No problem. Thecontest coincides with Virginia’s “Free Fishing

Days,” so no license is required. Don’t know howto fish? Volunteers will be available at theBrambleton Community Center to help show youthe ropes.

Ashburn Patch is sponsoring this event as a“catch and release” contest. Participants areencouraged to take a photo of any fish caughtand release them back to the water. There’sabsolutely nothing wrong with a fish dinner, butdue to the small size of many of the ponds inAshburn, this contest will focus on creatingmemories, not a meal.

All participants are reminded to check local rulesand regulations before fishing in any body ofwater. Stay tuned to Ashburn Patch for additionaldetails about the fishing contest and thecelebration at the Brambleton CommunityCenter.
