Dylan Richards is “That High Jumper from PNG!” Having received so much press from his success in the high jump pit, we thought it might be nice to learn a little more about this PNG Junior from Groves who has managed to reach spectacular heights throughout his high school career. Dylan plays the post position for Coach Pat Abel and PNG Basketball. And yes he can definitely dunk! As a kid, Dylan participated in Football, Baseball, Baskeball, Soccer and Track & Field until his Sophomore year in high school when he narrowed his focus to include only Basketball and High Jump. Dylan trains not only at school but also works out 5 days a week with Chip Hammonds at Mid-County Fitness in Nederland. When asked to what he credits his success, Richards responded “strength, fitness and hard work are keys to success in any ath-letic endeavor.” Dylan also runs his own lawn business, which can be found at www.DylanRichards.com, and is very active within the Port Neches Chapter of Young Life. This spring Dylan broke the PNG school record for High Jump that has stood for 22 years. He now holds the record at 6 feet 10 inches! I asked him how long he thought that mark would stand as the school record and he answered, “Until next track season......... I’m going even higher next year!”

Campre Cooking with Kids

With summer nally here, I am sure you are looking for fun lled activities that you can do to entertain the kids. Why not set up camp in the backyard or on a deck so that kids can explore the outdoors without getting too far out of site? Kids love campre cooking, and nicky kids are more likely to eat campre foods they’ve helped prepare. Traditional campout fare like hot dogs and burgers can get boring even for a picky eater. These are so versatile that even if you have to bring the camping trip indoors due to rainy weather, you can still prepare them by using the oven rather than a campre or grill. Here are 2 recipes to try and all you need is a roll of foil and a few other basics:

Foil Veggie/Hobo PacksIf you think kids won't eat vegetables, you might be surprised how they change their minds when the fun of some foil and a campre are involved. Pick their favorites (they must like a couple, right?) and add a couple others. Give them the diced veggies and the foil, and let them have fun. Add protein by including a couple of frozen meatballs and a splash of BBQ sauce. Place closed foil wrap onto campre, grill or oven and cook for 30-45 minutes.

Banana Boats2 bananas1/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips1/4 cup miniature marshmallowsSlit each banana lengthwise through the peel, making sure not to cut all the way through to the other side. Stu the bananas with marshmallows and chocolate chips. Wrap each bananain aluminum foil and cook over a re, grill, or in a 300 degree oven until chocolate is melted. Eat with a spoon.

These creative campre recipes are sure to be a big hit with your family, and nicky kids will want to make these even when you’re not camping. Kids can do the preparation and an adult will need to cook. Get that foil and go camping!
