Doug and I live on about 68 acres in the foothills of theSmokey Mountains. We have about 35 head of cattle. We havebeen in the association for about 16 years. We came across theWhite Park Cattle in Florida. A man that Doug was working withknew that we had cattle and wanted to know what kind of cowshad black ears nose and feet. We had never seen a cow like that.So he went home to Missouri, and brought us a video of them. Hehad seen them at the farm of Jim Freeman. We watched thevideo and called Jim and he told us all about the caving ease ofthe cattle and how well natured the cows were. We were lookingto get into a registered breed of cattle, so we thought we wouldgive them a try. We bought 4 heifer and 1 bull in January and Jimkept them till we got finished with the job in Florida. We went toJim’s and got the cattle and the next year we went back andbought 4 more heifers. We started showing local, then we went toQuincy, Illinois, from that we started at other cattle show’s. Dueto the sickness in the family we don’t get to make all the show’sthat we would like to. The point I would like to make is that if youare showing your cattle then you have a good chance to sellthem. For example last year we sold every thing we took toHarrisburg PA. I would like to thank every one who goes to theirlocal area and show cattle and do what they can to promote ourbreed. Other than showing the cattle we also have our own feedlot going. We raise our corn and hay to feed out then we sell tothe local people. This has been doing well for us it is somethingthat you have to work on in your local area.
I would like to encourage everyone to come out and show.If you don’t have cattle ready come on any way. Get to knowother people in the association. I think going to the show’s andtalking with other breeders has helped us in our cattle operation.
It is that time of year again. The calves are here and weare busy getting the hay in corn planted and all the other thingsthat go along with having cattle. What a life. I would not trade it for any thing.

England Visits the United States........
This year the American British White Park Association has theopportunity of hosting a World Federation meeting in Milwaukee inconjunction with our National Show and Banquet.

Most of the International visitors will arrive on September 21st inMilwaukee and will be attending the World Beef Expo as well as ourABWPA National Show and Banquet. Following the World Beef Expo thegroup will travel to Quincy, IL and spend the following days touringwhite cattle herds in the Midwest. Some will then return home andsome will travel on their own to other parts of the United States to seeother herds of white cattle. The England visitors will have a receptionin Quincy, Illinois on Sunday, September 24th at 7 p.m. at the AmericasBest Value Inn hotel. The hosting of the event is a great opportunity for the American BritishWhite Park Association. Not only, can we show them the quality ofcattle we raise here in the United States, but we can also mingle withbreeders from around the world and show them the very fine people wehave in our association.
So get the Ole’ Betsy and her calf cleaned up and ready for the Nationalshow. If you are unable to participate in the show, we will still needpeople in Milwaukee to help haul visitors around, or we will accept anyhelp that you would want to give to make this a Great Event.

2005 Data Collection Results……
In 2005 the Board of Directors pushed for all of the membersregistering cattle to turn in Birth, Weaning and Yearling weightinformation on their cattle. In the spring and fall we have been mailingto the members a letter requesting any information on the weights thatwould be available. This will help to build information for new breedersas well as get us on our way to producing EPD’s (Expected ProgenyDifferences) for the breed. The following information was collected in2005.
294 head registered217 head had birth weights
106 head had weaning weights18 head had yearling weights
The birthing weights are the 1st step in the data collection but weaningand yearling are also very important in improving your herd of mothercows so lets keep this data collection on the fast track and get thoseweights turned in on your calves.
If you are interested in more information or you need a data collectionsheet contact the office.
