A show of hands, ladies and gentlemen. Have any of you been given the silent treatment and had absolutely no idea why? On the flipside, have any of you have sworn you’re not going to demean yourself by explaining, for the thousandth time, that you need extra help with the kids before soccer practice, or that you feel ignored when your spouse doesn’t ask how your day went? But sadly, love doesn’t give you the ability to read minds. And in the end, we learn the lesson again and again, we have to verbalize our feelings, our needs, our wants. Expecting your partner to anticipate your needs is guaranteed to end badly. It’s the same with God, even though, oddly enough, He does have the ability to read minds. But He still desires us to explain ourselves to Him, doesn’t He? “I’m feeling scared of this.” “I’m really worried about that.” “God, I think I need x, y and z. Help me. Please.” Jesus slept on that boat, as it was tossed and turned by the waves, until his disciples woke him. “Why were you sleeping?” they ask. Well, geniuses, he was sleeping because they hadn’t woken him up yet. They had wasted time cowering in fear, waiting for him to act. They gave him the silent treatment and they didn’t even know it. God doesn’t desire us to verbalize our needs as a way of keeping us submissive. He’s not that petty. What He desires is the communication — that’s what really counts. That act of opening yourself up, of becoming vulnerable, of relying on Him, trusting Him. If it feels like God is asleep in your life, ask yourself this, have you tried waking Him up?

Por levantamiento de manos, damas y caballeros: ¿Alguno de ustedes a recibido el tratamiento del silencio y no tenia ni idea de por qué? Por otro lado, ¿alguno de ustedes ha jurado que no se va a degradar explicando, por milésima vez, que necesita ayuda adicional con los niños antes de la práctica de fútbol, o que te sientes ignorado o ignorada cuando tu cónyuge no pregunta como fue tu día? Pero, lamentablemente, el amor no te da la habilidad de leer la mente. Totus Tuus is a fantastic summer program where over 90 kids learned about the Ten Commandments, the Joyful mysteries of the Rosary, and grew in relationship with our Lord Jesus. Thank you to all who helped us with donated items, with time, and with talent to make this Totus Tuus pro-gram a successful summer of fun! FATHER’S DAY BLESSING Bendición del día del padre

God and Father of all creation, we come before you today with humble hearts. You are our model of a loving father. When we fail and fall short of your expectations, you are always there at the end of the day with open arms, ready to heal the cuts and scrapes of the day and to encourage us to try again and not to give up. We hold up these men in our midst who act in the world as fathers to their children or models of fathers for others. Bless them in their moments of doubt and frustra-tion with their children. Give them warm and open hearts to forgive failures. Provide them with the words needed for encourage-ment and perseverance. We ask all this in the name of Jesus.

Dios y Padre de toda la creación, hoy venimos ante ustedes con corazones humildes. Eres nuestro modelo de padre amoroso. Cuando fallamos y no cumplimos con sus expectativas, siempre estás ahí al final del día con los brazos abiertos, listo para curar los cortes y raspadu-ras del día y para animarnos a intentarlo de nuevo y no rendirnos. RELIGIOUS FREEDOM WEEK Semana de la libertad religiosa

Religious Freedom Week will be cele-brated in dioceses nationwide from June 22 to June 29. Throughout the week we will focus on the importance of preserv-ing the essential right of religious free-dom, both now and in the future, for Catholics and all people of faith. This year’s theme is “Solidarity in Freedom”. Please visit www.usccb.org/ReligiousFreedomWeek to view the “Pray-Reflect-Act” pages for each day on various religious liberty topics, accompa-nied by daily prayer intentions. Bishop Kemme will conclude the week with a Mass on June 29th at 6pm at the Cathe-dral of the Immaculate Conception. La Semana de la Libertad Religiosa se celebrará en las diócesis de todo el país del 22 al 29 de junio. A lo largo de la semana nos centraremos en la im-portancia de preservar el derecho esen-cial a la libertad religiosa, tanto ahora co-mo en el futuro, para los católicos y todas las personas de fe. FAREWELL PARTY Fiesta de despedida

Fr. J.D. will serve as the chaplain for Via Christi St. Jo-seph and Fr. Jacob will be the assistant to the Bishop and Diocesan Master of Ceremonies. Although this announcement saddens us, we know that God has a plan for their lives. We are grateful for the time we had with them and thankful for the pastoral care and for their love for us as our spiritual fathers. Please join us on June 27th at 2 pm for a farewell re-ception to celebrate these wonderful priests in Good Shepherd Hall. The main dishes will be provided by Cathedral ministries, we kindly ask those attending to bring soda pop, a dish of chopped fruit or a des-sert. For those unable to attend there will be a small re-ception after each Mass the weekend of the 26th and 27th . “Padre J.D. servirá como capellán de Via Christi St. Joseph y el Padre. Jacob será el asistente del Obispo y Maestro de Ceremonias Diocesano. Aunque este anuncio nos entristece, sabemos que Dios tiene un plan para sus vidas. Baptism Parents: Must be parishioners of the Cathedral and be registered at least 1 month before baptism. They must present a copy of the child's birth certificate so that all names are spelled correctly on the baptismal certificate. Godparents: They must be married by the Catholic Church and they must present their marriage certificate (a photo is acceptable). They have to be confirmed and they must present their certificate of confirmation (a photo is acceptable). If they are not parishioners of the Cathedral, they must present a letter of permission from their parish priest where they attend Mass. Single sponsors: They must be over 16 years old. They must present a copy of their confirmation certificate. Parents who are not parishioners: If you want your child to be baptized in the Cathedral, parents must present a letter of permission from their parish priest where they are registered, and all the documents mentioned above. (For example, when the godparents are parishioners and the parents come to the Cathedral from another parish to baptize.) All must present a certificate or letter verifying that they took the baptism class. Baptism Classes in English: 1st Wednesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in the Marian Room; located on second floor of the parish office. Registration is required. Baptisms: Monthly on 2nd Saturdays at 6:15 p.m. and monthly on 2nd Sundays at 11:15 a.m. Please call the parish receptionist to register for Baptism class and/or arrange the baptism date at 263-6574.
