The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ

June 22, 2014 Readings: Dt 8:2-3, 14b-16a; Ps 147; 1 Cor 10:16-17; Jn 6:51-58

The cup we share, is it not the blood of Christ? And the bread we break, is it not his body? Just as God fed the Israelites with manna from heaven, so too do we feed on the best of wheat, the bread of angels, food for the pilgrim journey.

TOTAL - 2000 FEAST OF CORPUS CHRISTI - JUNE 22 Immediately after the noon mass on June 22, the Corpus Christi procession with the Blessed Sacrament will stop for adoration at the home of two parishioners on Beech street before ending at the grotto with solemn benediction. Every-one is invited to participate. We are extending a special invitation to all children who received their First Holy Communion on May 3. This is an excellent occasion for them to recall this great mystery of faith. They will walk immediately before the Blessed Sacrament since a special function is reserved for them during the procession. The Feast of Corpus Christi, or the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ (as it is often called today), goes back to the 13th century, but it celebrates something far older: the institution of the Sacrament of Holy Communion at the Last Supper.

PLEASE NOTE: THERE WILL BE NO LIFE TEEN

MASS ON JUNE 22.

SUMMER OFFICE HOURS for July and August Monday -Friday 8-12 AM & 1-4 PM There will be no evening hours. They will resume in September.

All those who have lost a loved one are invited to a coffee social which will be hosted by the Consolation/Bereavement Ministry. It will be held on Wednesday, June 18, after the 9:00 AM Mass in the

St. Lucy House which is across the street from the side entrance of the church. We ask that you RSVP (533-2007) in order that we may plan our refreshments. We look forward to you joining us.

CATHOLIC COMMUNICATION CAMPAIGN

Today, we will take up the Collection for the Catholic Communication Campaign (CCC). This Collection communicates the Gospel through Catholic social media activities and enriches our faith through Internet, television, radio, and print media. Please be generous in this week’s Collection and support this important work. Remember, half of your donation stays in our diocese to support our communication needs. The CCC equips us to share our experience of faith, worship, and witness with the world. To learn more about the important work supported by the Collection for CCC, please visit www.hbgdiocese.org/ccc

COLLECTION OF HOUSEHOLD ITEMS AT ST. JOAN FOR HABITAT FOR HUMANITY

St. Joan of Arc Parish is sponsoring with Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Harrisburg Area a special one day collection of household items, which will be sold at Habitat’s ReStore located in Harrisburg. All proceeds benefit Habitat’s activities to promote safe, decent and affordable housing

for lower income persons and families. This special collection will occur on the St. Joan of Arc parking lot along Areba Avenue on Saturday, June 28, 2014 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Items to be collected include appliances, furniture, cabinets, building materials, light fixtures, home décor items, and household electronics. All items must be in working order and in useable condition. Examples of items NOT collected include clothing and shoes, mattresses/box springs, faucets, used anti-freeze and motor oil, unframed glass, carpet, wood with nails, water heaters and dishwashers. This event is a good opportunity to get rid of unwanted items for a good cause and receive a donation receipt for tax purposes. We urge your participation in this event. Tickets are $5.00 and can

be bought at the parish

Keep St. Joan of Arc in Mind during Your Summer Travels Have fun on your summer vacations! We know you’ll be out of town for a few Sundays this summer, but that doesn’t mean you can’t participate through your regular tithes. With Online Giving you can contribute from

wherever you are… you can even set up payments in advance if you like! And when you give online, it helps us make our budget, even when attendance is low. Visit our church website for more information about the Online Giving program.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

Last fall, the parish purchased a new system to manage our database. One of the advantages is that we will no longer have to

mail REP registration forms—you will be able to register for classes online. Currently, we are testing the system and expect it to be operational within the next 2 weeks. This information was emailed to all the families on our email list. If you did not receive this information, please send an email to [email protected] so that we can add you to our contacts list. When the system is ready we will email instructions on how to access the registration. If you have any questions, please contact the REP office (533-8578 or [email protected])

What Does the Catholic Church Teach and Believe?

Sessions are now open for those interested. This process of learning the faith is a part of the Adult RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults). These Inquiry Sessions, starting in July, are designed for adults, either unbaptized or baptized in another faith tradition, who would like to know more about the Catholic Church. To sign up for the Inquirers sessions clip out the form below and drop it off at the Parish Office. The RCIA Coordinator will be in touch with you. ------------------------------------------------------------------------
