Dear Parents, Before we begin, I’d like to ask you to spend a moment in prayer. Gather your
family together and ask please for the Holy Spirit’s guidance as you read this column to-gether. Let’s open with two verses from St Paul’s letter to the Romans (12:1,2 GNT): “1So then, my friends, because of God's great mercy to us I appeal to you: Offer yourselves as a living sacrifice to God, dedicated to his service and pleasing to him. This is the true wor-ship that you should offer. 2Do not conform yourselves to the standards of this world, but let God transform you inwardly by a complete change of your mind. Then you will be able to know the will of God—what is good and is pleasing to him and is perfect.”
These are very serious words. We are ALL, mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters, children and parents, everyone in our parish, urged by St Paul to offer ourselves up as a sacrifice to God, to be dedicated and pleasing to him. We’ll return to that point in a bit. The next bit really requires some honest conversation between ourselves, our fami-lies, and God. “Do not conform yourselves to the standards of the world.” What are the standards of the world when it comes to families? Sports, recreation, parties, movies, television, picnics - these are all good, and have their appropriate place. But as individu-als and families we need to LET GOD TRANSFORM US. How? By surrendering our-selves as individuals and families to God, and letting HIS priorities be OUR priorities. Then we will know God’s will. And do it.
“Dear Jesus, in everything I say, and in everything I do, in everything today, may it glorify you!” It’s not just a cute, easy to remember prayer. It’s our way of dedicating our-selves and our family to do God’s will TODAY. Even though we are going to Tommy’s baseball game, or Maria’s soccer game, or Eduardo’s birthday party, or that picnic with the Madisons, even though we really enjoy these things, GOD, WE WILL PUT YOUR WILL FIRST IN OUR LIVES, AS A FAMILY.
So, where are you at? Where is your family at? Are there some in your family pursuing God’s will with purpose and devotion, while others possibly seriously lagging behind or not doing God’s will at all? Maybe you or you family feel like the early Christians who said in Acts 2:37: “When the people heard this, they were deeply troubled and said to Peter and the other apostles, “What shall we do, brothers?”” According to Romans 12: 5 we are ALL ONE BODY. You, me, Monsignor, Fr Dolan, Fr Reynaldo, the deacons, all the parishioners, we are all in this together, and we need to help each other get to heaven. So let’s agree to continue our conversation in two weeks as we reflect on how we can offer ourselves and our families as a living sacrifice to God. How can we learn about the mission of the Church and our place in it? And how can we come to know and be deter-mined to carry out God’s will? I’ll see you in two weeks. I’m excited! WE CAN DO THIS!
Your fellow servant in Christ,
Chris

From Msgr. Frank Chiodo
Friends,
Thank you to the Hispanic community for donating many hours beautifying our grounds. We
are very grateful to them for their hard work for our parish.
Next weekend is our annual Corpus Christi celebration on Sun. June 23rd starting at 11:00AM
with Mass at the grotto. I have received word that Bishop Pates will be joining us. This year we
have invited Christ the King parish to join us to celebrate our faith in the Holy Eucharist. Christ
the King is a daughter parish, founded from our parish in 1939. This year’s procession brings us back together to cele-
brate our common faith—-as a southside family. After the procession there will be a lunch provided. We look forward to
our day together. Thanks to all our organizers of the yearly event. Consider bringing a lawn chair, since there will be a
limited number of provided seats.
Have a Blessed week.
