'With this words of former President A.P.J Abdul Kalam, former Senior Registrar - AIIMS and Senior Medical Oncologist and Hematologist, Cancer Chemotherapy Super Specialist, from the SPS Hospital, Ludhiana, Dr. Navdeep Singh, asked the countrymen to fight cancer till India becomes a cancer free place. Dr Singh was interacting with Ladakhi doctors and citizens on how to prevent common cancer from head to toe. Since cancer has become one of the killer diseases in Ladakh over the years, the interaction on prevention of cancer was orginased in the confer- ence hall of the Grand Dragon on Tuesday by VKV Almuni Association, Leh as a part of the ongoing yearlong 19th Kushok Bakula Rinpoche's birth centenary celebrations to spread awareness among the public. Former Chairman LAHDC Rigzin Spalbar, who is a member of VKV Almuni Association, said that since they owe deep gratitude to late 19th Kushok Bakula Rinpoche, the aware- ness on cancer was organised for the benefit of many and the society will continue to organise such health camp in future for the benefit of general public. Dr Navdeep Singh gave a presenta- tion on different kinds of cancers and measures that can be taken to prevent the spread of cancer. Talking about the need of collective efforts to making India a cancer free nation, he said by collective efforts we can make India cancer free in another 30 years. Don't just think of 2017 but think with a vision to make India cancer free by 2047," Dr Navdeep said. Senior Physician Specialist, Dr Tsering Norbu, while sharing his life- long experience in the health sector in Ladakh, gave a summary of health status in Ladakh and its rural areas. "There has to be will power with the politicians and bureaucrats to reduce diseases like cancer in Ladakh," he added. While acknowledging Dr Norbu's for contribution in the health sector in Ladakh, Rigzin Spalbar expressed gratitude to Dr Navdeep Singh for spearing time to give his advices to Ladakhis. This history is being created through William Shakespeare's 'Twelfth Night', the premiere show of which is being presented by Natrang under the direction of Aarushi Thakur Rana who has also translated, adapted and designed this presentation. The 'Kingdom of Dreams', popularly known world over as the best entertainment place and tourist spot in India-the ultimate entertainment and leisure destination, sprawling across acres of land in Gurugram. The show is being presented with the support of Kunwar Viyogi Trust. This play is believed to have been performed for the first time in 1961 in front of Elizabeth I even before it was published in 1623, seven years after Shakespeare's death. STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: State President BJP and MLA Jammu West Sat Sharma (CA) directed Chief Engineer System and Operation Wing PDD, Shiban Zutshi to immediately start the 33/11 KV 10 MVA Subash Nagar Power Station within days. Sat along with officials of Power Development Department (PDD) inspected newly constructed power station in order to review its status and to know that when the department is going to commission the same for public convenience. Pertinent to mention, commissioning of this station will provide relief to areas including Patoli, Rehari, Subash Nagar, Sarwal, Vikas Nagar, Laxmi Nagar, Shiv Nagar and other adjoining areas. Sat stated that earlier there was only one power station for whole area on which there was a dou- ble load and after commissioning of the same, a major load will be shifted to the new power station which will provide a major relief to residents residing in the above mentioned areas. The Chief Engineer assured the BJP leader that the station will be started as soon as possible and that too with- in days. STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: Public Health Engineering (PHE) Workers Welfare Association on Thursday held a protest in sup- port of their long-pending demands. A large number of PHE employees and daily rated work- ers assembled in premises of Chief Engineer, PHE Department Jammu and raised slogans against the anti-worker policies adopted by the con- cerned authority. They demanded regularisation of all daily rated workers (DRW) on the basis of length of service, completion of bio-metric system, disbursement of wages month-wise, release of pending wages and withdrawal of impugned order No. 227 of dated 8th June, 2010. Bakshi Singh appealed to the State Government to speed up the regularisation process of daily wagers to avoid the further confirmation. Subash Verma, Provincial General Secretary of the Association warned that if the demands of the employees are not settled within 15 days, association will resume the sus- pended strike soon and for that State Government will be held responsible for the conse- quences. Later, a charter of demands was submitted also to the Chief Engineer PHE Department Jammu by the sen- ior leadership of the association. The prominent office bearers of the association who addressed the gatherings were Chuni Lal, Surjeet Singh, Kuldeep Sharma, Rajinder Kumar, Bansi Lal, Ravinder Singh, Ram Labhaya, Kulbushan Nanda, Kuldip Kumar, Chain Kumar, Ravi Kumar, Lal Chand and Vikram Kerni. STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: The government continues to remain indiffer- ent towards the plight of patients suffering due to strike by health employees in all hos- pitals in Jammu region. On strike called by Jammu and Kashmir Medical Employees Federation in favour of Female Multipurpose Health Workers (FMPHWs), health employees of various cadre including Ministerial Staff, X-Ray Technicians, Pharmacists, Dental Technicians, Ophthalmic Technicians, Basic Health Workers, Lab Technicians, OT Technicians, Drivers and Cleaners (SHTO), Class-IV and NHM employees observed strike in respective institu- tions. Health employees of various cadres assembled at Shashi Bala Memorial Park here in support of protesting FMPHWs. A complete shut- down was observed in Jammu Division except emergency services. All revenue generat- ing counters remained closed, even the OPD Slips are not issued. Sushil Sudan President JKMEF criticized the govern- ment for not addressing the grievances of 2211 Head employees who have been struggling for last many years for the same. STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: The hunger strike by Contractual Lecturers entered into 122nd consecutive day on Thursday while Sanjay Kumar, Zabir Hussain Shah, Rakesh Kumar Khajuria and Balvinder Kour sat on chain hunger strike today. These contractual lecturers are demanding their regular- ization as per the Civil Services Special Provision Act 2010, a policy framed for the regular- ization of all the Ad-hoc/ Contractual/ Consolidated employees after rendering seven years of services. Arun Bakshi, President of the Contractual Lecturers Association, said that they were engaged vide order no. 1584-edu. of 2003 and vide order no. 1328 of GAD, according to which all the contractual lecturers are to be continued till their regulariza- tion. Bakhshi said that they will continue the chain hunger strike till their case for regular- ization is settled. He appealed to the govern- ment not to harass them fur- ther and issue necessary instructions for their regulari- sation. He was speaking to the President, Federation of Industry and Commerce of North Eastern Region (FINER), Pabitra Buragohain who met him here today to discuss certain GST related issues in the context of the eight North Eastern States. During the meeting, the sub- ject of GST rollout from July was discussed in detail. STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: The hunger strike byContractual Lecturers enteredinto 122nd consecutive day onThursday while SanjayKumar, Zabir Hussain Shah,Rakesh Kumar Khajuria andBalvinder Kour sat on chainhunger strike today.

These contractual lecturersare demanding their regular-ization as per the Civil ServicesSpecial Provision Act 2010, apolicy framed for the regular-ization of all the Ad-hoc/Contractual/ Consolidatedemployees after renderingseven years of services.

Arun Bakshi, President ofthe Contractual LecturersAssociation, said that they

were engaged vide order no.1584-edu. of 2003 and videorder no. 1328 of GAD,according to which all thecontractual lecturers are to becontinued till their regulariza-tion.

Bakhshi said that they will

continue the chain hungerstrike till their case for regular-ization is settled.

He appealed to the govern-ment not to harass them fur-ther and issue necessaryinstructions for their regulari-sation.

STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: Accusing theJammu and Kashmir PublicService Commission(JKPSC) of selecting candi-dates on regional and reli-gious lines while ignoringthe deserving and competentcandidates, State President,Shri Ram Sena, RajivMahajan lambasted StateGovernment and BJP inparticular for responsible indiscrimination against theeducated youth of Jammu.

In a statement issued hereon Thursday, Mahajan saidthat JKPSC is adoptingbiased and unfair process toselect candidates for govern-ment jobs.

He added that such dis-crimination with the educat-ed candidates of Jammuand Ladakh has forced theBJP, which is the rulingalliance partner in the StateGovernment and adopt asilence over the issue, tovoice its concern against thediscrimination.

He said that if StateGovernment particularlyBJP is not capable to endsuch discrimination then itshould make separate PublicService Commissions forKashmir, Jammu andLadakh regions to deliverjustice to the educatedyouth of all the threeregions.
