Meeting Notes1. Tabletop and Security Update
2. Kemp gave an overview of May 11th tabletop armed gunman exercise. The
tabletop exercise focused on recovery so senior leadership could exercise how to
manage after a major incident occurs. The full scale exercise is not scheduled yet
but the team is looking at late summer or early Fall.
In terms of security, the UCLA and Orlando incidents have led us to look internally on
how we would respond. One issue out of UCLA was barricades in buildings and
whether more are needed on campus for sheltering in place. Phase one of the camera
project to start and the cameras will be clearly marked and advertised so people are
aware they have been installed. Finally, we are hiring additional officers in DPS, the
new One-Button for Alert Carolina which will reduce time for campus messaging is
installed and a siren test will commence next Thursday.

UNC-CH Workers Compensation Program Overview –
Serious cases went down in 2015 but still not as low as previous
years. Total cost for WC holding steady near 2.2 million. University
fund contributes to the Workers Compensation fund not the state.
Cost is not only medical and leave benefits but also includes
clinchers (closing cases). The highest incident types included: falls,
slips and trips, strains, and miscellaneous Blood Borne Pathogens
(i.e. needle-sticks, splash, etc.).
Zika Preparedness – The University will be hosting a campus event
regarding Zika Preparedness with DHHS on Thursday, June 30th. An
informational email will go out to campus regarding the event.

An overview of May 11th tabletop armed gunman exercise was provided. The full-
scale exercise is not scheduled yet but the team is looking at late summer or early
Fall. In terms of security, the UCLA and Orlando incidents have led us to look
internally on how we would respond. One issue out of UCLA was the need for
barricades in buildings, which support sheltering in place but delay or create
concerns with rescue.
Phase one of the camera project is to start and the cameras will be clearly marked
and advertised so people are aware of them. The University will be hiring additional
officers in DPS, the new One-Button for Alert Carolina which will reduce time for
campus messaging is installed and a siren test will commence June 23rd, 2016.
