Our Metro Map shows all the airports and Aeroexpress routes from them. Every airport’s Aeroexpress arrives at different Metro stations:• Sheremetyevo aeroexpress arrives at Belorusskaya station• Domodedovo aeroexpress arrives at Paveletskaya station• Vnukovo aeroexpress arrives at Kievskaya station

Moscow airports and transportation system.

There are 3 International Airports in Moscow: Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo and Vnukovo. All of them are connected with the city by ‘Aeroexpress’ trains. They all will take you to the city centre (Circular subway line) in about 35-45 minutes, just pay attention to their schedule as they depart every half an hour with some exceptions. You can get to the airport the same way.One-way ‘Aeroexpress’ trip will cost you 340 rubles (≈ 8 eur).

Airports:

If you want to save money, you can ride a bus. It will cost you about 70 rubles (~1,75 euros) and it will bring you to the near-est subway station that is usual the last one situated about 20-30 minutes away from the Circular subway line. Be ready that bus drivers won’t understand English though. The working hours are 5:35am to 0:00am. Time gap between buses ranges from 5 to 30 min.A taxi costs about 1800R, and it’s the lowest price.

You can find this map pretty much everywhere in subway and near the stations. Though it may be a good idea to download an app with metro map to your smartphone.

Subway (Moscow Metro):

Subway system is good in Moscow. Usually you can get wherever you want by it. There are three kinds of tickets and two ways to buy them.

You get one ride on the sub-way and unlimited number of rides on the bus/tram/trolley for 90 minutes.

You pay 50 RUR refundable fee for the card, add credit to the card and it automatically charges you. There is no minimum charge.

You can find both on every station, but be advised:there’s not a single word in english anywhere in the subway and no one in ticket offices speaks english!

To buy from the TVM just click on “EN” - this button change language to English - and follow the directions.

To buy ticket here you need to practice these phrases:• “na odnu/dve/pyat’/odinnadtsat’/dvadtstat’” gets you 1/2/5/11/20 single ride ticket.• “na devyanosta minut” gets you one 90 minutes ticket• “na troiku” adds credit to your troika card

1 ride 50 RUR 1 ride 28 RUR

Tram, trolley bus, bus and subway systems have unified tickets, which are sold in the subway ticket offices and ticket machines. Ticket machines, however, sell only 1 and 2 ride tickets, which cost 40R and 80R respectively. I recommend to buy Troyka card or 5 / 11 rides ticket. There is no adequate map for ground public transition system, so it’s pretty hard for a foreigner to use it.

Bus / Tram / Trolleybus

Ticket machines and ticket offices in Moscow subway don’t accept credit cards!

There is 3-5 min delay to reuse it, so it’s hard to use one card for several people

When thinking of Moscow Subway, don’t take it as just a way to get somewhere. Moscow Subway is one of the most beautiful subways in the world. Almost every station (especially in the part surrounded by Circular line) was de-signed to be unique and match its name and its interior. We strongly recommend you not just ride trains there, but at least look outside at stations or even get out of the train and look at these ‘underground palaces’.Don’t forget to look up.

My favourite station is Vorob’evy Gory. It is lo-cated on the bridge over Moscow river, it’s broad, bright and has some examples of Dar-win museum exhibits.

Also outside there is a pier where you can get a ticket (450 rubles) and ride a water-bus to the city centre and back to the Vorob’evy Gory.

Some other stations you can find here (with a brief description):1. Amusing Planet2. Ten Station of Moscow Metro3. Most beutiful subway stations in MoscowCome to Moscow to see all of these! ;)

Tournament location and how to get there.GP Moscow 2014 will be held at VDNHa (Exhibition Ground), at the 55th Pavilion called ‘Electrificatsiya’ (Электрификация).The easiest way to get to the venue is subway.

When you go out of the station, take to the left and go to-wards big observation wheel, passing tram rails and monorail trains. You will see the main entrance.

55th Pavilion (Tournament Venue)A map of VDNHa territory is on the last page of this guide.

If you’re travelling from the city centre (in north direction), the exit is near first car. The exit you need has escalators (there are two exits from this station). If this won’t help, look at the sign and go in the ВВЦ direction (to the right on this sign):

ВДНХ(VDNHa)

Subway station is called VDNHa and is located at the north part of orange line.

After entering the park, go straight, sometimes even when you think there is no way to go :)(There are two attraction parks (to the left and to the right after entering the VDNHa territory): feel free to visit them in your free time. They don’t ask money for entering: you pay for every single ride. Prices are around 150-300 rubles (3,5 - 7 eur), tickets are sold in ticket offices (КАССА).)

Hotels near the event site and cheaper accomodation.

Notice that the subway station exit is the oppo-site to the one that leads to the venue. So if you travel from the city center you need to take exit closest to the last car to get to the hotel. When on the station, go to the side opposite to the escalator. You’ll see this sign and the station will look like this:

The staff hotel this year is Dehotel, it’s almost 3km away from the venue.

You may want to book a bed in a hostel, which would be cheaper and you can find one much closer to the city center. The good place to find one is this website: http://www.hostelbookers.com/hostels/russia/moscow/map. For example try these: we chose one cheapest, one closest to the location and one right in the city center.

You may also consider one of these hotels: they are also close to the location and not too pricey.

Ocharovanny Strannik HostelPechatnikov lane 26There are no hostels near VDNHa, but this one is most closest.

Galina’s FlatChaplygina str. 8 - 35There are two types of room: private twin room and 5 bed dorm room. There is total of seven beds; everybody shares one little bathroom. Good places to eat.Cheap and fast:

Stolovaya №57Self-service Soviet style dining in the very heart of Moscow. The dishes are prepared in the best traditions of Soviet cui-sine, according to the recipes of The Book of Healthy and Tasty Food.

Moo-MooOf all the Russian fast-food places to try, this is it. The buf-fet style dining may be frustrat-ing, but usually pointing works. Avoid salads and mystery meat, but you’re probably safe with chicken Kiev, bliny and a side of buckwheat. Try pastries too.

East-BuffetAnother buffet style place, it’s close to the local game store and very cheap. Cuisine is asian. Ask waiters to heat your food in miscrowave, if it’s cold.

Takeaway food:

TeremokTraditional russian bliny (thin pancakes) with all the fillings you can imagine.

These are located usually in kiosks near subway stations.

Kroshka-kartoshkaStuffed potatoes, sandwiches and salads are good to go. And the usual advice to all the travellers: don’t eat food you can’t name :) Just in case.

Russia is famous for its bliny (БЛИНЫ), or pancakes, wih different fillings (meat, mush-rooms, caviar, apples, cara-mel...). You can find a lot of small kiosks selling pancakes in streets as well as at food courts in shopping malls. Just look for any sign saying БЛИНЫ.If you prefer pizza (пицца), or sushi (суши), or McDonalds (Макдоналдс) - you can al-ways find a lot of these ev-erywhere. Sushi and pizza are more popular here than Rus-sian food, really.

Coffee-houses:

StarbucksDo you really need a descrip-tion for that? :)

Coffee-HouseLots of coffee, desserts, sal-ads and pretty decent busi-ness-lunch, too.

ShokoladnitsaPretty much same as Coffee-House.

Pubs:

Beer-HouseClose to the hotel, german-style beer restaurant.

Crazy DaisyApproach with caution: they have prices like “13 B52s for 1000 rubles”, if you’re not careful, you’ll wake up in a month in Novosibirsk, without money and any idea how you got there.

Attention! However hungry you may be, don’t ever buy food in the VDNHa park. It’s over-priced, almost certainly not good and cooked with black magicks.

Of course, there are lots more of good places to eat and drink, we just chose the clos-est, cheapest and the ones we ourselves like most.

ROCK AROUND THE KREMLINThe Moscow Kremlin – main fortress of the Tsars, headquarters of the Soviet Union and now the residence of the Russian president – is the real heart of Moscow. There are so many sights in the Kremlin and around, therefore I need a separate chapter for all this places of interest.

It is easy to get to the Kremlin by metro: Borovitskaya, Biblioteka Imeni Lenina and Aleksan-drovskiy Sad (this three are nearest stations to the ticket office and main Kremlin entrance at Kutafya Tower), Arbatskaya, Teatralnaya, Ploschad Revolyutsii, Okhotniy Ryad.

The Kremlin is a magnificent architectural ensemble with monumental walls and towers, gol-dendomed cathedrals and ancient palaces. Here you also can see the Arsenal and the Senate, admires the Tsar Bell and the Tsar Cannon, famous masterpieces of the Russian casting, and visits the famous treasure-house – the Armoury Chamber. Then walk to north through the Aleksandrovskiy Sad (Alexander’s Garden), along the Kremlin wall. On the left hand side you can see building of the Moscow Manege [41], on the right hand side – obelisk [37], erected in 1913 in honor of 300 years of the Romanov dynasty and “ruined” grotto, the reminder of ruined cities those Napoleon left behind in 1812.Next interesting spot is underground Shopping Centre “Okhotniy Ryad” [42] on Manezhnaya ploschad. You can find here free Wi-Fi and cheap meal in food court on the bottom floor, and then take a picture of fountains and playful statues from Russian fairy tales that ring the build-ing. And don’t forget to walk on the roof!Let’s come back to the Kremlin wall. Not so far from Middle Arsenal Tower [35] you can find small memorial complex for Great Patriotic War (WW2), including eternal flame and Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. If you catch the right time, you can see The Guard Change Ceremony. Then exit from Aleksandrovskiy Sad through the big beautiful cast iron gate and look at the monument of Marshal Georgy Zhukov [opposite to 42], situated in the neighborhood of State Historica l Museum. You can reach the Red Square by walking along the right hand side of the building, but I recommend walking along the left hand side and drop a coin in the mark of Mos-cow Centre. On the Red Square look at the GUM Shopping Centre [43], then walk along the Kremlin wall. This wall also is a VIP Cemetery [33-32] with tombs of Stalin, Gagarin, etc. The next great sight is the Lenin Mausoleum [near 32], that serves as the current resting place of Vladimir Lenin. Then walk forward to the tallest tower of Kremlin – Spasskaya (Saviour’s) [31], and then to the Saint Basi l‘s Cathedral, aka “Cathedral of the Protection of Most Holy The-otokos on the Moat”. It commemorates the capture of Kazan and Astrakhan by army of Ivan the Terrible. Near the Cathedral you can see Monument to Minin and Pozharsky and a stone platform for the proclamation of the tsar’s edicts, known as Lobnoye Mesto. After sightseeing I recommend to go down to the Moscow river and walk on Kremlevskaya naberejnaya along the Kremlin wall to Bolshoy Kamenny Most (Big Stone Bridge) [20-21]. You can take a great pictures of the Kremlin from this bridge as the cherry on the top of wonderful trip around the Kremlin.

Buying souve-nirs at the Red Square may empty your wal-let quickly! For the souvenir hunt we recommend you All-Russia Exhibition Centre. Which is luck-ily is right next door to the event site (VDNHa). It’s a permanent general-purpose trade show, there are many pavil-ions where you can find many souvenirs.

“Me go and do that”The electrical current in Russia is 220 V.

This part of the guide will teach you some general cyrillic words for comfortable staying in country where no one speaks Eng-lish. OK, it’s not true. You can easily find someone on the street who speaks English well. But don’t expect sellers, drivers, any other service workers to know English. Be ready to communi-cate by pointing and grunting.

Tips and vocabulary.Ask your flight attendant for an immigration card and fill it in on the plane. You’ll save a lot of time staying in passport check line if you get there earlier than all other passengers.

Have a passport and an immigration card with a hotel registration (they have to put a stamp on your registration card; ask for it) with you at all times.

Officially, all foreigners are required to register with OVIR, the Visa and Registration Depart-ment, within seven days of their arrival. Hotels can do this for guests. Please keep your arrival ticket / boarding pass if you plan to leave Russia within seven days.Passports and visas are thoroughly checked at immigration desks. All visitors have to fill out a customs declaration form upon arrival, which is available in various languages (some airlines hand them out on the plane). On the form you are asked to state how much currency you have and any valuables you may have with you. The form is rarely checked, but should be kept for the duration of your stay and handed back together with another declaration form at depar-ture.

Aeroport subway station, as well as Domodedovskaya, doesn’t have anything in common with airports. :)
