Brent Walker at First Baptist on June 28
Brent Walker, Executive Director of the Baptist Joint Committee for Religious Liber-
ty, will be our special guest June 28. Mr. Walker is both a member of the Supreme
Court Bar and an ordained minister. He leads the organization as it upholds the his-
toric Baptist principle of religious liberty, defending the free exercise of religion and
protecting against its establishment by government. He speaks regularly and provides
commentary on church state issues in the national media. Walker was a partner in the
law firm of Carlton Fields in Tampa, Fla., until 1986 when he left to enter Southern
Seminary in Louisville, Ky. He earned a Master of Divinity degree in 1989 and was
named the most outstanding graduate. Walker pastored the Richland Baptist Church
in Falmouth, Ky., while in seminary. After teaching 10 years as an adjunct professor
of law at Georgetown University Law Center, Walker has, since 2003, served as an
adjunct professor at the Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond. Walker earned
B.A. and M.A. degrees from the University of Florida and holds a J.D. degree from Stetson University College of Law.
Walker received an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from the John Leland Center for Theological Studies in 2013. His
wife, Nancy, is pastor for congregational care at Columbia Baptist Church in Falls Church, Va. They have two children:
Ryan is a singer/songwriter, and Layton is a teacher in Falls Church. Layton and her husband, Lucas, are the parents of
Walkers two grandchildren.
Mr. Walker will be preaching in our 9:30 worship service on June 28,
and leading a combined Sunday school hour, hosted by the Sojourners, at 10:45.

Last Chance! American
Baptist Churches Biennial
Mission Summit will be in
Overland Park June 26-28,
2015. We want to see you
there! Join us in Kansas City
for the celebration bigger,
better than 2013!!! Contact the
church office for more information or visit:
www.americanbaptists2015.com.
Online registration is available, but will close on
June 12. Following this date, on-site registration for
individuals will be available at the Overland Park
Convention Center.
Dear loved ones,
I greet you all in the name of Jesus. I
pray that you are all well! I just wanted
to let you know that everything is still
going pretty good here. Last week was
busy, but easy, because I had a transla-
tor. That means I have not been prac-
ticing my Spanish!
The women are responding very well to the lessons. We
have covered fear, self-esteem, guilt, regret, forgiveness and
self-forgiveness. Oh! And yesterday I was the one who
preached. I am very grateful for what God is doing in Deb-
orah House.
This week I have counseling sessions, classes with the
women and I also have to prepare a sermon for next Sun-
day. I am invited to go preach at another church in town. It
is a surprise to me, because I did not think women were
asked to preach in other churches here. Please keep me in
your prayers so God can send me the right message for his
people. Thank you so much for your prayers!
~Blessings, Dezo
Summer is Very Near
Your Finance Ministry is sending a reminder that all the
expenses of the churchsalaries, utilities, maintenance,
and ministry functions, continue throughout the sum-
mer months. We know that many of our church family
will be enjoying time away from home during this sea-
son.
Our request to you is that you remain faithful with your
very generous weekly and/or monthly support of First
Baptist Church even though you may be absent more
than normal during the summer. The building renova-
tion project is nearing completion and members contin-
ue to participate in all the ways we welcome, worship,
work, and wonder.
We look forward to your safe return.

Wichita Mission Team Invites You To Nicaragua!
If you would be interested in joining the AMOS Health and Hope mission team that will travel to Nicaragua in January,
please contact Les Pierce, Meridian Avenue Baptist Church, (316) 655-2388 or [email protected]. In 2006, Dr.
Laura and David Parajn started A Ministry Of Sharing health and hope (AMOS) as a way to expand the health ministry
initiated by Dr. Gustavo Parajn. Dr. Laura Parajn, an American Baptist International Ministries medical missionary
serving in Nicaragua and a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, has been named one of three 2015
Rural Heroes by the World Organization of Family Doctors.
We invite anyone to come who has an open mind for serving in the rural communities of Nicaragua. While we work with people of all ages,
its important that people are prepared for a hot climate, significant walking (dependent on the project), and have a positive attitude while
spending a week without electricity, water, or flushing toilets (dependent on the community). Teams usually stay for 9 nights and 10 days,
allowing time for you to work in the community but also to get around to see some interesting sites in and outside of Managua.
