Lap It Up!Cover Model: Howdy! My name is Charlie and I am a small, curious kitten searching high and low for a good home. From the looks of it I have it all...a strong little build, handsome face and intelligence to boot. I am around 8 weeks old...which gives me 8 weeks of experience in being cute and I’m pretty sure I have it mastered! What’s next? I’m ready for anything! Give me a call at 895-2195 or visit Edmonton Petcetera stores to meet more 4Paws rescues like me.

Thousands of years ago, we humans formed a covenant with our companion animals. We wanted them to live with us and to share our lives. Because of this our ‘pets’ lost most of their natural skills to fend for themselves. It then became our responsibility to feed and care for them. While the animals have kept their end of the bargain, we humans largely have not. ~ Unknown

Tail of the MonthRachel Sentes Book Review

So few books address the multiple dog issue other than in a paragraph or two at the end of a chapter, so I was eager to read an entire book focusing on the dynamics of a multiple dog family.

This book has amazing photographs, and there is sound advice regarding hierarchy and addressing sibling rivalry if two dogs are from the same litter. It lists the pros and cons of having more than one dog, including financial commitments with grooming, vets, food, and kenneling. However, the focus of this book is directed primarily towards those that are thinking about having a second or third dog, and not for those that are already in that situation- as is the case with many homes. In that respect, this book falls short. The only thing I could pull from it was a daily schedule of exercise; however, this seemed aimed towards those who don’t have to work a nine to five job. The training section of the book is basic and one would hope that your first dog would already know most of the commands. It doesn’t address what happens when you try to train both dogs to do as you say. Those with a couple of dogs know that separately they might have excellent behav-iour, but together they can be overwhelming. Overall, this was a disappointing read with nothing new to offer and seems to almost double as a venue for advertising specific products by Wahl.

Edmonton Reptile & Amphibian Society (ERAS) Hello, my name is “Bacon” and I am a 1.5yr old Ball Python. I was burned very badly by an under tank heater on my aquarium bottom. The temperature was not being monitored properly and it became way too hot burning over half of my belly scales. My owner moved and his parents didn’t really like snakes, so they brought me to ERAS. They were very grateful the society knew how to care for my injuries and happy the society will try to find me a new home.

Hi there, my name is “Trigger” and I am a 2.5yr old, common Boa Constrictor. My owner’s landlord didn’t want me in the build-ing so I was brought to ERAS. I am small and thin for my age because I was being underfed. I’m looking for new parents to FEEEED me regularly and give me a happy loving home.

ake the leadips for safe dog walking

If you’re like most pet owners, your animal’s safety, happiness and health is important. For dog owners, this includes taking your pet on routine walks. Walking your dog is not only rewarding for him, it also provides benefits for you. This is why it is important to understand the guidelines for dog walking before you hit the trails.

Safe dog walking begins with effective plan-ning. When deciding where to walk your dog, it is important to map out both on and off-leash areas within the city. You may walk your dog in your neighbourhood and on City park trails, but he must be on-leash. If he wants to run free, take him to any of the City’s 40 off-leash areas. These areas are located in many city neighbourhoods and throughout Edmonton’s River Valley Parks such as the Buena Vista Off-Leash Park located just across the North Saskatchewan River from Hawrelak Park via a pedestrian foot bridge.

Keep in mind that you must honour the off-leash site rules – stay in boundary, keep dogs in view, pick up their mess, and control behaviour. In addition, dogs must be on-leash when entering or leaving any off-leash park site. If your dog is found running loose in a prohibited area, you will be asked to leave and may face a fine of $100 for a ‘dog at large.’

While picnic sites, playgrounds, golf courses, and sports fields seem like ideal locations for dog walking, your pet is not allowed in these

areas. Dogs must always be kept at least 10 metres from these sites. Additionally, those large grassy areas in city parks are prohib-ited. Watch for the signs and avoid walking your dog in these areas.

Throughout the summer, Edmonton hosts a number of festivals and events. While it may seem like a good idea to bring your dog, this is illegal for many reasons. First, biting may occur when dogs become stressed by large crowds – people step on them; music and voices are loud; and children vigorously play. Due to the influx of park traffic, your dog is at increased risk of being injured or killed. Many events do not provide any shelter for your pet, so there is high risk of heat stroke. Finally, dogs are not permitted where food is consumed, so they must be kept away from food vendors and picnickers. Leaving your dog in the car is also not an option. Even if the windows are open, the car can heat up to three times the temperature outdoors. This means your pet can develop fatal heatstroke in just a few minutes. The best way to ensure your dog’s safety is to leave him at home during an event.

By planning out where and when you will walk your dog, you will be taking the first step in promoting the health and safety of your pet.

Meet Happy, a big friendly dog and Honey a little playful kitten. Happy wants to sleep and Honey wants

to play. With bright bold pictures and simple text, this children’s book is a wonderful read and one that your child will be sure to ask to be read over and over again at bedtime. This book is great for beginning readers with large bold type and gorgeous coloured pages. The author was born and raised in Alberta and is the author of several books for children in-cluding Oh, Cats!, Sid and Sam, and Creepy Crawly Critters. I highly recommend this title for every pet loving child.

Yippeeeeee! Here I am out in front! My name is Mary and these slowpokes behind me are my buddies Druid and Sasha...and there’s at least 130 more of us back on the SCARS website! Although loving I would be best suited to a home without small children as I can be a nervous girl. I am great with other dogs, house trained and extra special...not to mention fast! The white Shep on the right is Druid...still the most handsome guy here at SCARS! He is about 6yrs old and not just a pretty face either! He is house trained, great with other dogs and listens to every word you say. He is good off leash, but unless you don’t mind having any feeling in your hand he’s gonna need a little work while on leash! The gorgeous Collie X

on the left is Sasha. She is 2yrs old, beautiful, smart, and active. She is also house trained, VERY well behaved indoors, loves playing with other dogs, and she’s truly the BEST listener in the whole world. I have to say, Sasha hates the kennel and gets quite scared in new situations so she needs a very patient, dog-friendly and experienced home. SCARS says the right fit is out there for each one of us and we just need to stay patient.

My name is Henessy and I am back at SCARS after three years. I am a large Shep X and I am really enjoying being out on an acreage...I LOVE to run and go quading. I grew up with kids and another

dog, but I do not like cats. If you have the room and energy for me, I promise I’ll do my best to make you happy.

I am “Hale the Magnificent” (origi-nally from PARS). I am easy going, friendly, great with kids, good with most dogs and just overall a really wonderful dog. I am 1-2yrs old, approx. 80lbs, and possibly a

Husy/Shep X. I will need plenty of exercise, a secure yard and in a perfect world, school age children to love and play with!

My name is Sue and if you like fluffy, I’m the girl for you! I am about 7-8months old, weigh around 60lbs and could possibly be a Shep/Akita X. I am super friendly and

full of love, but I have to admit I need a little work on the manners thing...sometimes I can even be a tad sassy!

My name is Ursula and I am a 45lb, beautiful girl who is great with children. I like to play with other dogs, but would be happiest as your “One and Only” just following you around. I am gentle and affectionate, but

also quite alert and will help watch over the house and family. I also have a cute under bite, a gorgeous soft coat and will guarantee to keep your yard cat-free! Give SCARS a call I’m waiting to come home!

Humane Animal Rescue Team (hart)

My name is Truman (AKA “Three Toed Truman”). When I was rescued I wasn’t walking on one of my back legs, turned out I had a nasty bone infection and one of my toes had to be removed. Thank goodness for rescuers, they tell me I wouldn’t have lasted the winter without the surgery! I love playing with the dogs and cats; we are all good buddies. My foster mom is teaching me hand signals and I am also completely house and crate trained. I really enjoy going for walks, do well on leash and car rides don’t bother me in the least. If you are looking for a handsome, mature and fun-loving guy, I may be the one you can’t live without!

My family brought me home all cradled in their arms. They cuddled me, and smiled at me, and said I was full of charm.

They played with me, and laughed with me, they showered me with toys. I sure do love my family, especially the girls and boys.

The children loved to feed me, they gave me special treats. They even let me sleep with them, all snuggled in the sheets.

I used to go for walks, often several times a day. They even fought to hold the leash, I’m very proud to say.

These are things I’ll never forget, a cherished memory. For now I live in a shelter, without my family.

They used to laugh and praise me when I played with that old shoe, but I didn’t know the differ-ence between the old ones and the new.

The kids and I would grab a rag, for hours we would tug. So, I thought I did the right thing when chewing the bathroom rug.

They said that I was out of control, and would have to live outside. This I did not understand, although I tried, and tried, and tried.

The walks stopped, one by one; they said they hadn’t time. I wish that I could change things; I wish I knew my crime.

My life became so lonely, in the back yard on a chain. I barked and barked all day long, to keep from going insane.

So they brought me to the shelter, but were embarrassed to say why. They said I caused an allergy, and each kissed me good-bye.

If I’d only had some classes, as a little pup. I wouldn’t have been so hard to handle when I was all grown up.

“You only have one day left.” I heard the worker say. Does that mean a second chance? Do I go home today?

Addison (picture above) did go home, and was given his second chance thanks to SCARS. However, there are many stories that don’t end as happily as this. Our hope at Pet Rescue Magazine is that we will help rescued animals find forever homes, and then their will be hope for those still waiting. Please tell your friends about us.

Not much is known about me, but they do tell me I am a 2yr old, gorgeous Tortie. One thing is

for sure, I’m grateful for the regular meals, health care and safe space, but I can’t wait to find a family who loves me! Could it be you?

Not much is known about me, but they’re guessing I’m about 1yr old. I’m very timid and

shy in nature, but I’m a diamond in the rough and will let my personality shine bright once I’m settled in a new home.

Kenzie is my name! I’m a 1yr old, Calico with a stunning coat. I was recently returned to SNAP through no fault of my

own. I’m a bit frightened, but I’m trying my best to settle back in. I’m very sweet, and will let more of my true colors shine through when I find my forever home.

www.spayneuteractionprogram.ca

Gracie is what they call me and I’m just 9 months old. I was born to a feral cat and rescued early in life. I will require a quiet, gentle, un-derstanding family without small chil-dren. I love to be brushed regularly,

play with mice and pretty well anything with bells. Because I tend to overeat, I’ll need some help keeping my girlish figure.

Bandit is my name and get-ting attention is my game. After being in foster care for over six months and then adopted, I was recently returned to SNAP. I just

can’t figure out why someone doesn’t want me! I love people, other cats, older kids, and I’m very easy to get along with. I’m told I have a great personality and I’m good look-ing to boot!

I’m a 10 month old sweetheart living in foster care with a menagerie of other cats and dogs. I’m playful, talkative and have a mind of

my own. I like to be played with and receive affection on my own terms. I would prefer to go to a bilingual English/Cat household, but I’m patient and willing to train suitable applicants.

My name is Roxie! I’m 3.5yrs old and came to SNAP de-clawed. I require a patient family who will give me time to develop trust, and the attention I need. I love to follow my humans around, enjoy napping beside them,

and also like to indulge in a cool drink from the bathroom taps when allowed. I also like to hang out on top of the tallest of bookcases where I can survey my domain.

CUTE, SMART, CUDDLY...that just sums us up in a nutshell!

Hi there, we are three sisters and we are all ready to go to our forever homes. Our Mom ended up in one of the pounds, that’s where she gave birth to us. We were claimed with our Mom, but the people decided we weren’t wanted so they gave us pup-pies up to SNAP. We are very sweet, 5 mth old All Canadian mix breed.

Please call about us we’re all good girls - really!

My name is Hazel. I am sweet, loving and really need a human Mom to show me the world is not such a bad place. Our story starts in Drayton Valley. That’s were we lived until we were rescued. We have brothers and

sisters but they’ve all found their forever homes and we’re the only two left. My brother’s name is Hunter and he’s a typical boy. We’re about 6 mths old and we’re ready to love you.

My name is Moxie and I am near-ly 3yrs old. If I could, I would be clicking my heels, saying “There’s no place like home, there’s no place like home.” I’ve been here nearly 5 months, so when I visit the wizard I am wishing for two things —some extra courage and a heart that’s willing to love me

forever. I am a dignified, laid back, reserved gal, looking for a loving heart, a warm lap, and a sunny window! I am an engaging conversationalist, a total charmer and a good listener. I need a stable, quiet home with lots of love, regular grooming and multiple daily workouts with cat toys.

My name is Eddie and I am nearly 2.5yrs old. If you’re ready to find a love that lasts longer than an Alberta summer, now’s the perfect time to invite an exuber-ant canine into your life. I just might be the perfect companion for hiking through Kananaskis country (don’t let my three legs fool you, I get around just fine), taking

a unplanned dip in the lake, or remaining patient as you struggle to set up that “quick to assemble” tent (don’t worry, I won’t tell). I need a dedicated, experienced guardian who is committed to a monogamous relationship...I just can’t stand the thought of you loving another canine! I’m not sure what to make of the wee ones, but children over the age of 16 are okay. I will need plenty of structure and lots of exercise —just like the sun, I’m burning and working 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Presenting Her Majesty, Queen

Fluffy! That’s me, the queen! I’m a 1yr old Samoyed and beautiful in the all the ways a queen should be...I also have the attitude you’d expect of a powerful woman. However, some private etiquette lessons are likely to help me step into the role of noble monarch. I want to ensure my new castle remains an “adult only living community”—wee

ones are just too much work for this fair maiden. I’m also not keen on other canines, so I must reign over my kingdom solo, with only you as my royal subject.

Bath Day Doesn’t Have To Look Like This!Follow our Step by Step program

and have a HAPPY BATHDAY!

Step 5 Shampoo & Conditioner: Now add the recommended amount of shampoo and scrub the fur and skin making sure to be careful of the eyes. Rinse well getting the water right down to the skin. Next add the recommended amount of conditioner giving it some time to soak in, if your dog will let it! Rinse well again.

Step 6 Toweling/Drying: Gently use towels to pat dry the coat, face and legs. Be careful not to rub dry long or curly coats because this will cause matting. These coats should be dried with a blow dryer and brush. Short coats can air dry.

Step 7 Final Brush: Once the coat is dry, one last brushing will help to remove any excess hair or matting.

However, if you are soaked and your house is now dirtier than your dog was, you may want to call the professionals next time!

Rachelle ReichartContributing WriterLil Arf’n’ Annie Dog GroomingEdmonton

Step 1 Practicing: It is wise to do some training with your dog beforehand to prepare them for this usually unwanted experience. Place them in the tub with lots of praise and their favorite treats so that they will have a positive association with the tub before you actually put water on them. Teaching them some basic obedience commands such as wait, stay, down and sit will also help a great deal.

Step 2 Prepare: Everything you need should be handy before you start bathing. You will need towels, a brush, a metal comb, shampoo and conditioner. You should use a canine shampoo and conditioner because canine’s skin has a more alkaline pH level than that of their human friends. Human products tend to damage or dry out a dog’s skin and coat. Remember to dress yourself for the occasion! A grooming apron or some waterproof nylon clothes are recommended. The last thing that will make the job easier is a handy spray nozzle for your tub or sink that can be purchased at a pet store.

Step 3 Brushing: It is very important to brush your dog’s coat thoroughly and then use a comb to make sure ALL the MATTS or majority of the undercoat are gone. Shampoo, scrubbing, water and toweling will make any present matting or undercoat more matted. DO NOT BATH A MATTED DOG.

Step 4 Ready, Set and Go: It is time to place the dog into the tub using lots of praise and encouragement. Using a collar and leash will give you more control as well as using those obedience commands practiced before. For dogs prone to ear infections, placing a cotton ball carefully in each ear will prevent water from getting down the ear canal. Hang on and thoroughly wet the dog making sure you get the water down to the skin.

Northern Alberta Society For Animal Protection (NASAP)

I am 6.5yrs old and all I want is some-one to love. My name is Minou. I am talkative, expressive and I like to be the centre of attention...I would do best as the only cat in my new home. I am currently accepting applications from interested parties through NASAP.

They call me Copper C., and I am not yet 6 months old. Nothing much phases me, I am very friendly and I love people. I would fit really well into a young family and I’m at the right age to start training classes...it sounds serious but I’m sure its fun!

My name is Jackson and I’m only about 11 weeks old but I have big paws to grow in to! I am a Lab/Collie X and I was abandoned in the city. I’m going to need the usual training and lots of exercise to keep me happy...are you up for it?

Hi, my name is Moby and I love snuggling and playing with my foster dog sisters. My manners are pretty good but I am big, and do need reminding now and again of what is acceptable. I love to fetch, have good recall and would make a great running partner. I am a little bit on the goofy side and my antics always bring a good laugh...you’re gonna love me!

Jinx is the name I go by, but I won’t put one on you honest! I’m an intelligent and eager to learn Lab X. I am calm, walk nicely on the leash and get along with everyone...I even leave the farm animals alone! I’m pretty good look-ing, if I do say so myself, and I’m only about 18 months old.

I’m Cinder! I am 4yrs old and was very lucky to be rescued from an apartment fire way back in 2005 but unfortunately was never claimed so I was re-homed. After 2 years in my new home they moved out of province so here I am again. I am a loving, sweet, in-door only, girl who loves attention.

Hello, my name is Oreo. I’m a big, affection-ate, 2-4yr old, easy going and friendly fellow. All I really want is love and attention! I’m very expressive and love to engage in conversa-tion...it’s hard not to respond! When I came in I had a wounded leg but now I’m all fixed up and looking for a new home. I am very sub-missive and enjoy the company of other cats...but not dogs, they scare me!

I’m Oliver, a beautiful, well behaved, Miniature American Eskimo who was lost in the countryside. Thankfully a kind lady thought I was worth saving –phew, that was lucky for me! I’m ok with dogs, cats and children of all ages. I am also house and leash trained.

My name is Andy, short for Andy Panda! I am a 2yr old chatterbox, with a unique vocabulary consisting of duck and chicken sounds! I’ve had a very rough life and as a result I can be extremely fearful in new situations and need a home willing to be very patient and gentle. Once I settle in I have no problem asking for head scratches, tummy rubs and a brushing!

Hi, my name is Phoebe and I am a 2yr old, quiet little kitty...most of the time. I do love to talk in the mornings though. I also love to have my tummy rubbed, play-ing with string and pouncing on toy mice. I would probably be fine with other cats and I get along very well with the friendly doggy in my foster home.

I’m Stewie! I’m 1-2yrs old and I was a very lonely stray until a NASAP volunteer rescued me. Once I got a taste of the good life (i.e. indoor living and meals) I never wanted to go outside again. I’m a complete gentleman in the house, and use my litter box and scratching post all the time. I would prefer a forever home where I am the only cat.

Aries: March 21 - April 19You may find yourself being trampled on a bit this month. Most of it is unfounded but hang in there it’s not worth

making a fuss over. Stay away from the monkey chatter and things will pass quicker and quieter.

The forecast looks good Taurus, go for the gusto! You will feel especially spry this month, take advantage of this

energy phase and put it to good use. Set goals but make sure you still enjoy your freedom and feistiness while the summer shines.

This month your Gemini charm will serve you well! Determine what you want and just ask...you’ll be surprised

how encouraging others reactions will be to your furry face. Just be careful you don’t engage in shameless self-promotion.

You know what they say, Birds of a Feather Flock Together! You may want to avoid the rougher alley cat crowd this

month to avoid unfair judgment. Listen to your loved ones they only want what’s best for you!

Everyone wants to enjoy lazy summer days but it’s high time you join the rat race. Bored of your current job? If

you’re a canine check out “Take Your Dog To Work Day” on June 22nd to give you some new ideas!

Summer is here and it’s time to take some fun time just for you! Join flyball, head out for some park fun, try your paw

out in agility...whatever you desire. The goal is to be happy as a flea in a doghouse!

Cancer: June 21 - July 22

Leo: July 23 - August 22

Virgo: August 23 - September 22

It’s time to let go and liberate the grudges that keep you chained. Scorpio pets find this challenging at the best of

times so you will need to forget about the treat cupboard and focus hard on forgiveness. Release the hounds!

Your impressive natural talent of entertainment will win everyone over this month. Neither fish, flesh, nor fowl will

be able to resist your humor and wit. Speak loud and smiles lots –you’re a hit!

The good news is many of you are being spayed this month. Don’t go getting all emotional, the vets say you will be way

better off health wise once you get this out of the way. Be sure to cash in on extra treats and cuddles!

Uh oh! Looks like you many of you may get a new pet in your home. You may be worried about sharing your people,

Ladies and gentle-men the search for the Holy Crail has ended, here I am. A stunning glimpse into the male Lab/Shep X category! I am a smart boy that learns quickly,

too quickly my foster mom says. I am great with other dogs and but if left unattended I always figure those cats need a good chase. I have shorter fur and shine like the sun with my perdy reddish coloring.

The “Puppy Mischief Gang”.... that was me and my litter mates! Now there’s just three of us left “Chewy of the shoey”, “Chaser of the cat”, “Barker at the neighbour”, I could go on but the rest have all been adopted. I am a Shep/Collie X and

more than ready for my new home!

Prairie Animal Rescue Society (PARS)

My name is Spor-takissy (AKA Kissy and Missy Kissy). I was born to a feral dog whose life ended when she went looking for food on a farm. The farmer soon dis-covered her signs of motherhood and began looking for us pups, we were just 6 weeks old! My siblings, Wild Mike and Corn on the

Cob have resiliently learned to like you two leggers...but I’m taking a little more time to come around. I love my foster mom and adore the kids but fear anyone else. I do not fear bite, if you corner me I will just give up and surrender to the petting. I am a 9 month old, calm, sweetheart of a girl but I will need a pa-tient and loving family willing to reassure me.

The name is Jack and I am 1yr old. The girls here call me Feral to Fabulous! I came with four other cats and believe me, we weren’t your typical housecats. I was very scared and very upset.

One day I even got out of my cage! I was looking for a way out and no one was gonna stop me! After that no one tried to take me out of my cage for awhile, they would talk to me but I just hid in my litter box. About a week later I let one of the girls know that I was okay and ready to make friends. I gave it my all, belly rubs, purring, climbing up on her shoulder —oh yeah I had her in the palm of my paw. So I have a beginning and middle to my story...now I just need an ending —could it be with you?

So the names Hunter, and I am 2-4yrs old. I love to be cuddled, but don’t let that cat out of the bag (ha, ha, too funny). The girls here know I like to have my favorite bed...even us big tough Tom Cats need something

soft to lie on. Toys...well I tried to be all grown up and serious but they kept putting them in my cage. I finally thought to heck with it and had a blast!

Hey was’up? My name is Frosty and I’ve been here for a couple months now. I don’t really mind being here since I get lots of attention and the toys here are awesome! I am 2-4yrs old. I have this thing where I’ll look you straight in the eye —want to know what I’m thinking? I am thinking that it’s time to ditch this place and get myself a home —what do ya think?

ies also show that the immune systems of children (particularly between the ages of five and eight) of pet-owning families are more stable than those of children from non-pet owning families - the result being pet-owning children are better able to fend off illness. (http://www.pethealthcouncil.co.uk)“Pets help people live longer, healthier and more enjoyable lives,” says Dr. Ohlhauser. We’ve always known how our pets make us feel; now they are good for our health as well!

Dr. Larry Ohlhauser, loves his pets. The author of The Healthy CEO had a brush with a heart attack a few years ago and has since adopted a new regime for maintain-ing his physical wellness, and his pets have had a positive effect on his physical and mental health. Without them, his road to recovery might have taken a little longer. Dr. Ohlhauser jogs with his Great Dane on a daily basis, and plays hard with his Dachshund to keep them both healthy. “Pet ownership offers many benefits to adults. With a pet they are more likely to recover from a heart attack, their blood pressure tends to be lower and pet owners stay more active and take better care of themselves,” says the physician who was recently chosen as one of the Top 100 Physicians of the Century by the Alberta Medical Council. Programs such as Pet Therapy bring animals into people’s lives that may have chronic pain, stress, grief, or loss, and an animal’s visit can encourage them to focus on some-thing other than their pain which is incredibly beneficial to their recovery. Pets can comfort people with a touch and be a way to start conversations with people that might have felt isolated in their pain. “Older people with pets feel less lonely and are less depressed and less likely to commit suicide, “explains Dr. Ohlhauser.Children can benefit greatly from having a relationship with a pet at an early age. It is an incredible opportunity to learn about life and death, respect and companionship and a greater understanding of the world around them. One recent study stated that pet owning children who are slow learners, or parents who have been divorced fared much better than parents who were without pets. Children with pets also have higher levels of self esteem and func-tion better emotionally than those without pets. (pet health council) Teachers noted the benefits of introducing pets into the classroom to strengthen social integration and social competence of children. Animal assisted therapy for autistic children is widely practiced, and dog programs like Edmonton’s Paws for A Story are benefiting children’s learning immensely. Children who live with a cat or dog in their first years of life have a lower incidence of hay fever and asthma and are less likely to develop animal-related allergies. Recent stud-

My name is Jesse and I am a mild mannered boy who loves to cuddle. I will even wrap my arms around your neck and snuggle in to your neck...I sure do love my people! I also have a marvellous purr!

My name is Wolfie and this here is my brother Ty! We are about 8 weeks old and extremely sweet. I am a bit more outgo-ing; I am the first to greet you, the first to find the hole in the chain link fencing and first to run with the big

dogs! Ty likes to sit back and assess the situation first...he figures if I don’t get eaten for breakfast he can then follow along! We are typical puppies, ankle biters one minute and total sweethearts the next.

My name is Springfield and I am very intelligent and energetic. I am also a sweet, people-loving pup. I am around 7 months old and accustomed to both cats and dogs. I am spayed and up-to-date on shots...now all I need is a new home!

Summer is in the house!!! I am a friendly, active, and confident little puppy. My sister Spring and I are being fostered near Sylvan Lake. I am about 10 weeks old and love giving affectionate little angel kisses.

Hi there, the name is Montey; Full Montey that is. What am I full of…LOVE baby all Love! I am a wonderful little boy that can give you the best of both worlds. I love to run and play, but I also love to cuddle and give hugs with plenty of kisses. I’m waiting for you...hurry up!

Can anyone be any more cute than I am. My name is Keena, and I am a 5 month old female Lab Border Collie mix. What that means is I am smart as can be but that is not it, I am also fast as can be. Talk about the whole package, “beauty, brains and brawn” I have it going on. Come see me and catch me if you can…ha ha!

My name is Flower and I can only go to the best home. I survived -40 degree weather, gave birth to 5 won-derful babies, am as loving as can be, and so deserving of a wonder-ful forever home. I love snuggling down on a pillow for heart-to-heart chit-chats and I’m a fantastic listener! If you can offer me a lifetime of love and affection please call PAKS!

You can look but you will never find a more happy or content puppy than me. I am crate trained in fact I will go in it all by myself when I get sleepy. I truly am a keeper. Where’s my family?

My name is Hershey Kisses and I am the sweetest Hershey Kiss you will ever get!I am an 8 month old female Lab mix and will melt your heart when you meet me. I am good on leash, my foster pack consists of dogs, puppies, cats even horses; they all think the world of me. My foster mom and the rest of my human pack think I am pretty special too.

You can just call me your Lady…or Spook! Could any feline be finer than me? I am a 1-2yr old look-ing for new accommodations. My current residence is a tad overrun with drooling dogs, and as much as I adore the attention my servants provide I would really like to find my new home.

Everyone calls me Buddy because I’m such an all around good guy. I am quiet, well behaved and fine with other dogs. I am good in the car, know my basic commands and how to shake a paw. I had a confronta-tion with an unaltered male but it was prob-ably just envy. I am about 2.5ft tall, 65lbs and around 5yrs old.

My name is Florence and I came from the pound with an eye injury. I have since had it removed and it does not slow me down at all. I am a smart, well behaved, 6 month old girl who loves car rides. I get along well with other dogs and even know some tricks and commands.

I am one of Smile’s puppies named Niven. I am a Shep X with a lovely personality to match

my sweet puppy dog eyes. I love to play and snuggle. Could you be my new family?

I’m all Smiles! I came pregnant from the pound but my pups are now weaned. I am quiet, potty trained, crate trained, eager to please and good with dogs and cats. I will no longer be having puppies, but I do have a beautiful litter you can view on the SHARES website and one of my boys named Niven has joined me below.

My name is Ariel and I was found living under a pine tree with my 8 siblings. We are about 6 months old and all named afterfairyTAILS because we want a happy end-ing! I am a sweet girl, but like any young pup I will require training and patience to make me the best dog I can be!

My name is Cirrus after the thin, feathery, wisp like clouds high in the sky. I am a playful, 10 week old kitten looking for my very own home. I am super duper gorgeous and pretty well as majestic as kittens can get. Please call 4Paws at (780) 895-2195 for more information on how to meet me or visit Edmonton Petcetera stores to meet more 4Paws rescues like me.

My name is Dusty and I am 3yrs old. I am a lovely Golden Retriever/Lab X. I am great with kids, love car rides, have good manners and have great off-leash potential. I do need some work on leash still...it’s kind of hard being guided by your neck, you two leggers should try it out sometime —it’s hard to get used to!!!

My name is Lucky and I am a gorgeous, easy-going, lovable and playful Black Lab X. I really enjoy ear scratches, belly rubs and playing with toys. I also love romping around and playing with people of all kinds. I am searching high and low for a family just like me...warm, affectionate, active and social.

Big, handsome, affectionate, strong and smart...that’s me! My name is General and they tell me I have potential to be successful in many different areas. I love fetching my squeaky red rubber ball and showing other squeaky toys who’s boss. I have a pretty good recall, and I’m a tonne of fun to play with!

Well....here I am again. Beautiful, athletic, affectionate, gentle...why haven’t I found a home? I am a 1yr old Coon Hound named Stryder. I already know how to sit, sit pretty, shake a paw, and lay down. I am looking for a loving indoor home with a big yard and an active family.

They call me Loki, and I am a 1yr old, perfect-ly handsome, Husky X. I have an absolutely beautiful coat and my gorgeous, mismatched eyes are full of curiosity. I can be shy with new people but I warm up quickly and I’m pretty good on leash...my off leash recall still needs some work though!

I’m Flutter and I LOVE retire-ment. Every day I have a silly moment or two when I rip around with my toys and toss them into the air, but otherwise I mostly like to putter around at my own pace. Now that I’m a senior I prefer peace and quiet, and although I enjoy other dogs and love my people, I need a home with no puppies, cats or young

children, please. Maybe I’ll find a place with a retired couple who will hang out with me and putter around at my pace. Wouldn’t that be perfect?

Hi my name is Twilight, I am a 4yr old boy and I just retired from racing. I’m enjoying this new life of leisure with soft beds, good food, and lots of people to pet me. I love my new people sooo much that I collect my people’s belongings. Don’t worry, I don’t hurt them —I just like to carry them to my bed. I also enjoy carrying my stuffies around the house or tossing them up in the air. I’m pretty big, but I am gentle and like to give kisses. The most important thing for me is to find a home where the people will

love me and give me lots of pets and hugs and kisses and cuddles…

Hi, my name is Smoke and I’m a pretty nice guy, but it’s kind of hard to tell right now. Back when I was racing I knew what to expect, routine didn’t vary much except on race days! But suddenly, I have no idea what’s expected of me, so much has changed. I’m friendly and love attention if you let me approach you when I’m ready. I like having other dogs around so I can watch them and do what they do. In fact, I love the company of other dogs and become much more animated when they’re around. I’m not sure about kids; they seem nice and all, but they scare me just a little. I think I’d prefer a quieter home, y’know? I know I have it in me to become a really great companion...I’m trying really hard and I’ll get it soon —I know I will!
