Editors letter... Summer

The 2010 Sprotbrough Scout Road Race and Family Gala event takes place on Sunday 20th
June, 1pm on New Lane Playing Fields. A Pasta party is planned for the Saturday 19th June
from 6.30 pm which is a family food and entertainment evening. Entry to the party is by
ticket only- £7.00 adults and £3.50 children. Contact Janet Graves on 853932 for tickets.
Come along with family and friends to what has been in the past, a very enjoyable day. Good Luck, if you
are entering the road race event, it was a scorcher last year!
Organiser, Janet Graves from the Scout Supporter group said ‗I would like to thank everyone for their valued
contribution. We welcome the Elm field Armthorpe Brass Band this year, who will provide excellent musical
entertainment as you visit the various other attractions- speed kick, golf target, archery, pony rides as well as a
wide range of favourites such as Bouncy Slide, Hook a duck, Coconut shy, Cats on the Wall, plants, crafts,
jewellery, tombola, and ice cream stall. There will be plenty of refreshments in the new main marquee, including
beer tent, baked potatoes, burgers, strawberry cream teas and tempting ‘naughty but nice’ cakes on our cake stall.
We also welcome community groups such as Don Valley Gorge Heritage Trust, Sprotbrough Park Play group, Air
Cadets, Fire Service, Police, and St Mary’s Church Group. Thanks go to our local Community First Group, St John’s
Ambulance and the Community Police service who we rely on for ‘all the behind the scenes support’ A special
‘thank you’ to Police officer, Lynne Walker, who has supported us each year for both our major
community events (annual parade and gala) as she will be retiring immediately after the gala this
year. We wish all the very best in her future ventures!
As you may have noticed, I mentioned the new marquee. Thanks to the generosity of all those who have supported
our fundraising efforts to date (including a grant from the Coal Board Re generation Fund), we have now acquired
a new bigger marquee to provide even better facilities for all group events. We also were able to buy additional
navigation equipment and computer software to aid orienteering ventures in the group, a new oven and additional
tables and benches, which were extremely helpful at our family camp for 120 people last summer after the gala
last year!
Finally, on behalf of the Scout supporters group, I would like to thank all the Sponsors, families, friends, local
businesses, Parish Council, our team within Scout Supporters group and the young people within our organisation.
Together it makes for a great team which makes this event a pleasure to organise, so ENJOY THE DAY!’
If you are interested in running the road race, you can download an application form from

Live Steam Railway Event
is back!
Back by popular demand is the Garden Railway at the home of Andrea and Roger Offord with live steam trains.
They opened their garden last year to raise funds and Roger persuaded his pals to bring
their locos too. Cream teas were served as the trains puffed around the garden tracks; great fun!
The event proved so popular with all ages that they have been encouraged to ―do it
again!‖ This time, Sandra and David next door are opening their garden too allowing more room for stalls, children‘s treasure
hunt and somewhere to sit. (You‘ll be able to walk though via a bridge over the tracks!)
Raising funds for St Mary‘s Sprotbrough Church Roof and Save the Children this
will certainly be another worthwhile event. So get yourselves down to 2 and 4 Ledbury Gardens, Cusworth on Saturday 5th June between 11 am and 3:30 pm!

“Making the right choice” Choosing the right school for your child is one of the most important
decisions you will ever make as a parent. Here at Sycamore Hall we
recognise that school should not only be a place of education, but a happy, secure world where childhood
memories are made, and cherished. From the weekly spelling tests, double maths and language lessons, to
the May Day Celebrations and unique Christmas pantomime, we will ensure that your child not only
learns, but has fun and enjoyment along the way.
Our small class sizes ensure that your child is given a high degree of individual attention and is nurtured to
ensure their full potential is reached. We pride ourselves on developing a positive attitude towards
academic work, promoting concentration, self-discipline and a sense of achievement. The school has a
happy and hardworking atmosphere, and upholds traditional values such as good manners and courtesy for
others. Our school welcomes children with special needs and values all its pupils equally.
Sycamore Hall offers you an affordable independent education with moderate fees that you will find
surprising. Fees may be paid termly, monthly or weekly with generous discounts available for siblings.

We are holding a "Sprotbrough Sixes
Cricket Event" at The Ivanhoe, Sprotbrough on Sunday July 11th from 10am onwards. This is an annual event
in memory of Neil Gardiner (my brother) from
Sprotbrough who passed away in November 2007 ,
aged 26, following a three and a half year battle
with Leukaemia.
The winning team will be awarded the Neil
Gardiner Memorial Shield. Everyone welcome, lots
of cricket to watch as organised by Rob Johnson
(music included), Jon French will do a wonderful
job with the barbecue as usual and Jodie and Sarah
will be organising the raffle (raffle prize donations
welcome) All funds raised to go to P3 Teenage and
Young Adult Cancer Unit at the Sheffield
Hallamshire where Neil was treated. This unit was
opened following Neil's death after he and a
fellow patient Samantha Shepherd who sadly also
died, came up with the initial idea and were the
inspiration behind this unit which has many facilities
for teenagers and young adults with cancer
who often stay in hospital for long periods of
tiime. It is an ongoing project and funding is always
appreciated to keep this unit running.
This day is usually a great day and we pray for
good weather!! For raffle donations, please
contact Jim Gardiner on 851851.

Okay! Now we have dealt with surplus weight
and hair, it‟s time to consider dull, lifeless skin.
Commence with body brushing or a body scrub to
remove all the dead skin cells and bring a healthy glow to
the surface skin. Perfect Harmony can make this task
more pleasurable by carrying out:
Kiwi & Sugar Cane Body Exfoliation Applied by hand massage, which eliminates dead skin cells, impurities and roughness; your skin is then moisturised,
leaving it radiant, silky and renewed. Time 1 hour. Cost £30.00
Dear Reader,
With summer on the horizon with its
promise of sunny days bringing the
annual summer holiday very much to
mind, I could write page after page on
all the wonderful beauty treatments
you can sample to prepare yourself
for relaxation in the sun. As space is
at a premium, however, I shall just
feature a selection in each of the next few issues.
After having being
cocooned in winter
clothes for many months, many of us
dread thought of being seen in our
swimwear. If losing a few pounds
concerns you, a herbal weight loss tablet
may be just thing you‘re after. Safe and
very effective, and starting from £4.95 for
a trial bottle, they are definitely value for money.

beautiful, we must carry it with us or we find it not. ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson.
Skincare Make up Nails Skincare Make up Nails
The other dreaded
summer horror... body hair!!! Shaving is
okay but does not
achieve lasting results, so if you don‘t fancy shaving
every couple of days on holiday there are
alternative solutions. From personal
experience of performing this
treatment for over six years, I strongly
recommend IPL (Intense Pulse Light), which achieves amazing results and a permanent reduction in hair
growth. After IPL I would recommend waxing, which is quick and inexpensive and requires repetition only every
4 to 6 weeks.
For more information on all of these products,
contact Perfect Harmony Tel: 01302 786740
To improve your silhouette, ideally
just before you go away, try
„Body Boutique‟s
Body Wrap‟. This wrap
achieves slimming and firming by
creating a rapid break down and
elimination of fatty deposits that
may cause cellulite – these are not
water loss wraps and work by
drawing out toxins to promote inch
loss.
„Achieve a
permanent reduction in body
hair this summer!‟
Want your skin
looking beautiful before that two weeks vacation? in
St. Tropez air tanning treatment is the answer! This
involves applying a specially formulated product via an air-
brush. The applica-tion is quick and easy, giving a perfect, streak-free, natural
looking tan.
Perfect!
„Arrive on
holiday,
with that
post holiday
glow‟
Perfect Harmony/Arrow‟s Gift Voucher for June is going to a gentleman who lives on Sprotbrough
Road, whom I personally feel deserves a special treat. One of
Louise‘s Indian Head Massages will fit the bill perfectly!!!

Five tips to prepare
your car for summer
Dear readers, After a long winter of wear and tear through snow, salt and potholes - and volcanic dust - your car will be
in need of a little TLC. Being prepared for the summer and making checks now can save you a lot of
money in the long run. Try to deal with any minor problems and repairs as they happen, as they can
become very expensive if left to build up over time.
Here are five tips to prepare your car:
rusting if left on the bodywork. If possible take your car to a car wash that specializes in
under-car cleaning to get rid of every trace.
sufferers, so replacing your car‟s pollen filter annually is a vital investment. Keeping your air-
con well maintained will help, too.
-con will help your car smell better. If it smells stale when you turn the
heating on, it could well be a sign that mould is building up in your condenser.
the windscreen and headlamps when you stop for fuel is also important as windscreen wipers
won‟t get rid of all the fly debris.
remember to replace them regularly. After the dust that has fallen from the volcanic ash
cloud, it is particularly important that you clean them regularly to avoid damaging your
windscreen.
Certain checks should be made regardless of the season: Anti-freeze
contains corrosion inhibitors so you should keep your car topped up with the right mixture all year
round; going without could lead to expensive internal
damage such as a blown head gasket.

The Family Table
Recently we had two Fun Days for families in one week. One was on a Sunday
afternoon and the other on a Tuesday afternoon at 3.30pm as the children leave
school. We feel these activities are well received and everyone enjoys the time
very much. We have TABLES set out in a ‘U‘ shape, so we feel closer together.
There‘s painting and colouring shapes and pictures, things to make, games to play
and songs to sing. All this reminds me so much of my childhood when we did
similar things. There‘s a real ‘feel good factor‘ when we‘re all sitting around the
tables talking, working and playing together. We learn about each other, our likes
and dislikes, and we become friends sharing in sad days and happy days. I‘m sure
many of you can recall the old days, when we had parties at home, how the adults
seemed to gravitate to the kitchen to prepare food, and later attack the mounds
of washing up, there was many a secret shared there.
Again this reminds me of THE LORD‘S TABLE where we share the Sacrament.
Sharing the bread and wine to remember how He took OUR SINS on HIS own
shoulders so that we can have a new life, a new life forever. Let‘s not forget the
time we shared at Easter so soon.
Wherever we gather round a table,
whether it‘s a Fun Day or some other
event, we are so close to Jesus, we can
talk to Him anytime, knowing He will
listen and understand. He is with you all
the time and always will be. His arms
and His heart are always open to us night
or day.
Let Him be your friend and life long
companion.
God Bless you all.
See you next month
