Students from across DRN’s service territory gathered at DRN headquarters in Ellendale on Thursday, June 14 for its second annual Tech Camp.

The tech camp provided many hands-on activities as kids, ages 12-17, learned to create their own ethernet cable, locate underground wires, check for wi-fi signal strength, build Lego robotics and understand the diversity and future of technology.

The kids participated in a friendly competition of Kahoot, a game focused on learning, as they competed to quickly answer the most questions correctly about technology.

Next, a guest speaker from John Deere spoke to the students about many new farming technologies for weed control, precision agriculture, and gave students an opportunity to see the technology in a new John Deere tractor.

Lego robotics, geocaching and wearable technology were the focus of the camp afternoon sessions. Students created programmable robotic Legos, and planned and made their own wearable technology.

The day concluded with a geocaching event using GPS coordinates to locate landmarks. Separated into teams, the participants located clues at GPS coordinates to solve the puzzle.

DRN ReadiTech is proud to have successfully hosted its second hands-on tech camp. Students left the camp with a greater knowledge of technology, its capabilities and how it enhances life in rural North Dakota. They were reminded of the important role DRN plays locally as a technology solutions provider. n
