July Non-Meeting Cruise A perfect sunny day greeted us for our special boat tour meeting in Skaneateles, NY on Friday, July 26th. This adventure replaced our usual meeting at the Denny's in North Syracuse, and was partially subsidized by the Chapter treasury. Thirty members and guests assembled at the Mid-Lakes Navigation dock at around 10:30 AM to make the 11:00 AM sharp departure time. The tour included a luncheon catered by the Sherwood Inn, a local fine dining establishment for decades. The captain and crew were most courteous and helpful, and made every attempt to ensure a safe and comfortable trip around the lake. The narration provided by the captain described the history of the area, as well as brief information on the owners of the estates that surround the lake. In addition to being a fine recreation area for the owners of the nearby homes, Skaneateles Lake is the main water supply for the city of Syracuse, NY. Fed by many underwater springs, and carefully monitored for any contaminants, the lake water is fed directly to Syracuse by gravity feed and without treatment, similar to the water system for New York City. In addition to several daily boat tours of the lake, Mid-Lakes offers a mail delivery service that drops USPS mail at the dock-located mail boxes of homes bordering the lakeshore. XYL Rita KC2GFT and birthday boy Tim N2VZD at the June QCWA meeting The catered luncheon included sliced ham (not the radio kind, hi hi), turkey, and roast beef, as well as Patisserie breads, salads, sliced cheeses, sliced fruits and vegetables, cookies, and coffee and tea. And, a surprise birthday cake for Tim N2VZD was snuck onboard and shared by the masses, much to Tim's surprise. Everyone agreed that the tour and food were excellent, and enjoyed all aspects of it. The regular business meeting agenda was dispensed with this month, but will resume at the August 30th meeting, back at the Denny's. Pictures from the outing appear at the end of this newsletter.
