Dear Division 27,
What a great start to the
summer! The past ten days
I was in Orlando Florida
attending 2012’s Interna-
tional convention! It was a
blast going to Disney
World, making new
friends along the way,
meeting people from all
around the world, and
electing the new Interna-
tional president, vice presi-
dent, and eleven interna-
tional trustees. It was a
great experience! Pacific
Northwest District is home
to two of the 2012-2013
international trustees : Cal-
vin Leung and Mary Alice
Peng! I am excited to bring
back new service ideas that
I have learned about dur-
ing the time I was at con-
vention. I would like to
thank the Kirkland Kiwa-
nis and Sammamish Kiwa-
nis for sponsoring me! I
look forward to meeting all
of the Kiwanis!
I will hopefully be seeing a
lot of you at my July DCM!
If you have any questions,
comments, or concerns
you can contact me any
time!

HERSHEY’S Track & Field Games
is the largest youth sports pro-
gram of its kind in the United
States and Canada. Events
take place in every state and
most provinces in North Ameri-
ca, and hundreds of athletes
make it to the grand finale —
the North American Final in Her-
shey, Pennsylvania.
The Kiwanis Children’s Can-
cer Program (KCCP)
KCCP, Kiwanis Children’s Can-
cer Program, in support of Ki-
wanis Doernbecher Children’s
Cancer Program in Portland
OR., Kiwanis Children’s Cancer
Program in Seattle WA. and the
Kiwanis Children’s Cancer Pro-
gram in British Columbia and
the Yukon, will raise money and
awareness to fight and find the
cure for children’s cancer.
The KCCP was founded by Governor
Frank Morehouse of the Pacific North-
west District of Kiwanis International in
2010. Governor Frank’s inspiration was
a young cancer patient named Penny.

With The Eliminate Project, Kiwanis International and UNICEF have joined forc-
es to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus. This deadly disease steals the
lives of nearly 60,000 innocent babies and a significant number of women
each year. The effects of the disease are excruciating — tiny newborns suffer
repeated, painful convulsions and extreme sensitivity to light and touch.
To eliminate MNT from the Earth, more than 100 million mothers and their fu-
ture babies must be immunized. This requires vaccines, syringes, safe storage,
transportation, thousands of skilled staff and more. It will take US$110 million —
and the dedicated work of UNICEF and every member of the Kiwanis family.
Kiwanis and UNICEF joined forces to tackle iodine deficiency disorders,
achieving one of the most significant public health successes of the 20th cen-
tury. Now, they are eliminating MNT from the face of the Earth. And in doing
so, the project will reach the poorest, most neglected mothers and babies
with additional lifesaving health care. The end of this one disease means the
beginning of better health for so many families.
