As you are no doubt aware, funding for schools has become increasingly tight over the past ten years. Molescroft is not impervious to these challenges and we are extremely grateful to the wide and varied ways that parents support our school and the children’s education. Parents will have read in the media that schools have been asking parents to contribute more with annual subscriptions etc. To be honest I don’t think I could ask you to contribute any more, as you remain generous and extremely supportive. RExhibition of Work Evening 2018 Come and see what we have been doing. A reminder of the changed plan, including the England match!

e 12 On Thursday 28th June the

School will be hosting its annual Exhibition of Work Evening. The whole school will be open and pupils are encouraged to bring their parents to school between 4:15pm and 7pm. This is an important part of our partnership.

The children should be your guide and show you their work and classrooms. Teachers are all here for informal discussions. In addition parents are encouraged to have a look all around the school, in other classrooms and to have a look at what everyone else has been doing. Certainly it is recommended that parents have a look at the classrooms their children are transferring to.

Staff will be available in the Conservation Area so please do go and have a look at the habitats. Not to be missed are the class garden tubs, each designed by a class this year around the theme of “Team Tubs” marking the FIFA World Cup. Which is your favourite?

As before there will be a rolling programme of music. We sincerely hope that Parent/Carers will facilitate their children being on time to perform. It is so disappointing when children have worked so hard in their music lessons to find gaps in the groups. Every child from Y2 to Y6 will be performing in at least one section. We are so lucky to have Mrs. Walker teaching all our children to read music through the recorder and of course to lead what must be the biggest Primary School Orchestra in the land. Year 2 will be performing again for us. This is the fourth year that Year 2 will attend the Big Little Sing at the Spa in Bridlington on 9th July. The choir rounds off the evening and their programme is always a beautiful finale to our school family evening.

The Friends Association will also be providing refreshments.

The children and not least Mrs. Walker have worked extremely hard to put together an exciting programme. I have heard the performances of the orchestra, choir, Y2 and the recorders and they are truly amazing. It would be such a shame if they were not shared on the evening.

Highlights include: The Orchestra’s performances of the “In the Hall of the Mountain King” and “The Greatest Showman”. I witnessed on Friday the one hundred and twenty Y5 & Y6 massed recorders with percussion performing The Theme from “The Game of Thrones” and “We Will Rock You” ... simply spectacular. The Y2 have a wonderful programme including “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” and the Choir have three wonderful songs including Ed Sheeran’s “What Do I Know” which will lift the spirits and hopefully the England Team too! Meanwhile Y4 recorders have mastered Mamma Mia, while Y3 are performing One Direction’s “What Makes You Beautiful”.

Of course, the children will have lots to share in their classrooms too.

I realise the early timings are not ideal, but to help I can offer the following.

•If it is difficult for the Orchestra members to get home and back for 4:30pm I will make arrangements for them to stay at school and provide a picnic tea. (Must be booked in advance via the office).•Tea Club will operate unaffected and we will start the tea sessions slightly early to make sure everyone is fed by 4:30pm. The library will be closed to guests until 5:15pm.

Children from Y2 to Y6 should be in school uniform for the evening. Y1 and Foundation Year do not need to be in uniform.

At 7pm we shall switch on the football on the big screen in the hall and for those young and old who would like to watch all or part of the match with friends. You will be most welcome (up

to the hall capacity).Parents, if you would like to bring a can or two that will be fine and soft drinks, crisps, tea and coffee will also be available to purchase.

Once again, I apologise sincerely for this oversight, but hope that you will be able to work around the new schedule and thank you for the many supportive comments and emails I have received.

The Hall Programme 4:30 pm The Orchestra5:20 pm Y2:Big Little Sing5:30pm Arts Award Presentation in the Library for those involved5:50 pm Y3 Recorders6:05 pm Y4 Recorders6:20 pm Y5 & Y6 Recorders6:40 pm The Choir

Please note for everyone’s safety and comfort a one way system will operate through the hall. In addition Parent/Carers are encouraged not to bring prams/pushchairs into the school and through the corridors. Wherever possible, please use external routes to the classrooms. Every room has an external door.

R SUMMER SUN PROTECTIONKEEPING YOUR CHILDREN PROTECTED

It is vital that pupils are protected for our SPORTS EVENTS including the COMMONMOLE GAMES SPORTS DAYS. Children will be outside for up to three hours on these occasions. It is not unusual though in Summer months for pupils to enjoy an outdoor PE lesson for 90 minutes on any day.

FUN IN THE SUN Keep safe this summer

Just a reminder that it is recommended that pupils have a wide brimmed or foreign legion style hat which protects the neck. Pupils are also recommended to have sun cream at school but the following protocol must be observed.

The sun cream must be clearly labelled with the child’s name.

The sun cream must be kept in the box provided in each class – NOT in book bags, coats or pockets.

Each child must be trained at home how to best apply his or her own sun cream. Teachers and supervisors cannot apply sun cream for your child unless there is a medical requirement, this being dealt with through the Administration of Medicines Policy.

Parents may consider applying a cream on their children which will last a full day, which clearly makes things easier at school, although there is some debate as to whether this was safe enough. I leave it to you to decide what you prefer.

THINK SAFETY IN THE SUN FOR YOUR CHILDREN FOR OUTDOOR PE LESSONS AND FOR ALL OUR SPORTING TOURNAMENTS

Slip Slop Slap Seek Slide SUN SAFETY SAFETY FOR CHILDREN Encouraging children to take simple precautions will prevent both short and long term sun damage while allowing them to enjoy their time outside.

• Infants under 12 months should be kept in the shade.

• Cover up children with hats, protective clothing and sunglasses.

• Use a sunscreen with an appropriate SPF factor for each family member based on individual skin type.

• Limit the time spent in the midday sun when the UV index is at its highest.

• Monitor exposure to the sun using a UV monitor.

THE SOLAR INDEXThe UV Index is a scale given to the level of UV radiation on a given day. It ranges from 0 to 20-the higher the index, the higher the potential for damage to the skin and eyes and the less time it takes for this damage to occur.

FAREWELL YEAR 6 Seven years of memories and achievements. Remember ‘Once a mole, always a mole’

Year 6 will be given a special send off on Friday 20th July. 2018. They will be given a special guard of honour by the rest of the school and will leave through the main entrance.

Parent/Carers of Y6, Friends Association committee members and Governors are invited earlier to join Y6 at 10:30 a.m. for a special show which is to be presented by Y6. They will also receive their briefcases.

At 12 noon on this day Y6 and their guests are invited to share a special buffet lunch with the staff, in order to mark the end of the primary days. The cost of this is £2.40 per child. (If parents have paid in advance for their child’s lunch no further payment is required). The cost is £3.40 for adults. Parent/Carers of Y6, members of Friends Association, and Governors

are also invited to attend. The buffet will be based in the Y6 classrooms. Please fill in the slip at the end of the Newsletter.

This will be followed by a whole school final assembly at 1:45 p.m. Again our guests are invited to stay for this annual rite of passage.

Traditionally on the last day, Year 6 like to collect signatures on their school polo shirt. This is fine with me if it is fine with you, BUT

the children MUST provide their own pen for this purpose and have a school jumper or second polo shirt to wear for the final assembly in the afternoon.

SUMMER SEMI FROZEN FRUIT KEBABS

Pupils will be pleased to know that the Fruit

Kebabs continue to be available at morning

breaks until the end of term. Semi-frozen fruit kebabs will be available

from the Friends’ Garden each morning break. They cost 30p each.

Once again thanks go to Mrs. Hunsley, our

extremely flexible cook, for facilitating this.

A CELEBRATION OF THE BRITISH SUMMER SALAD A different hot component each day From 2nd July to 13th July 2018 the stage will be in the hall and all the technical equipment set up for our performances. Rather than try to squeeze in and have to keep packing up and resetting the stage, dinners will be served from the pupil’s kitchen. There will be no room however for guests.

For these lunches we shall be having a celebration of salads. There will be a wide range of options and changes each day. I promise the children this is not a few lettuce leaves and a tomato! There will be a hot element to the meal each day e.g pizza. Watch out for the special menus when they are published. If the weather is pleasant children may also have the chance to dine alfresco in the Friends Garden and/or on the Year 2, Year 3 & Year 4 picnic tables.

TIMES TABLE ROCK STARS Winners are crowned Today, Friday 22nd June, the finalists from Y4 to Y6 were pitched into mathematical battle. The children were so excited about a contest … and around times tables. Possibly the costumes, drum kits, music (the final countdown) and smoke machine helped.

The children across Year 4, 5 and 6 have worked extremely hard on their Times Tables, but

the finalists were Charlie, Daniel, Sophie and Harry from Year 4. From Y5 there were Gideon, Dominic, Millie and Thomas while representing Y6 were Oliver, Max, Angus, Raghav, Harvey and Brayden.

All the finalists were then treated to waiter service at lunch from Mr. Loncaster and the children were feted as superstars for the day. I think learning your Times Tables is now officially cool.
