Exalted Ruler’s Message Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Everyone knows that this is a very slow time of the
year for Vero Beach businesses and organizations
such as ours. This is when we really need our
members to support the Lodge. All you have to do
to help is enjoy your membership! Just attend one
or more of our social functions and bring your friends, neighbors—even your
relatives—with you.
We will keep you current with all the happenings at the Lodge…if you are a
subscriber to our email list. Surprisingly, 20% of our members have an email
address, but are not subscribed to our email list! If you are not a subscriber
already, visit signup.veroelks.com to join our list. Want to see what you’ve
been missing? Visit email.veroelks.com to get a list of the last 20 emails the
Lodge sent out.
To many, my “eat, drink and be merry” message above will go unheeded. I
would really like to find out why. Accordingly, I’ve put together a real short
survey that you can answer at survey.veroelks.com. Your response can be
anonymous, or you can add your name. I intend to use the results of the survey
to do some “mid-course corrections.”
Thank you for keeping this a great Lodge.
Here are the survey questions:
Why did you become an Elk?
Have you been able to fulfill your “why” at our Lodge?
What’s the best social function you ever attended at our Lodge?
What social event(s) would you like our Lodge to hold?
What’s the best community or veterans service function sponsored by our
Lodge that you’ve attended?
What service project(s) would you like our Lodge to hold?
How can you best contribute your talents to the Lodge?
Please take just a few minutes, visit survey.veroelks.com and send me your
confidential response.

House Committee Message - Your House Committee is working hard to provide activities for the summer months. Our snow bird members have returned to their summer homes leaving our year round sand bird mem-bers to continue to support the Lodge. Music for every weekend has been booked through August. Our Wednesday night $ 10.00 buffet continues to be popular. Followed by Trivia on the 1st. and 3rd. Wednesday, Blue Grass Jam on the 2nd. Wednesday and Left, Right, Cen-ter and Bar Poker on the last Wednesdays of each month. It is important to remember that in order to hire the music and put the dinners on, we need to have good attendance at our activities. We are now asking that all members contact the Lodge no later than Wednesday after 3:00 pm and be prepared to pay for your reservation with a credit card or stop by the Lodge and pay when you sign up for our dinners. We have to order the food no later than Thursday for weekend dinners. Unfortunately, due to the resignation of our custo-dian, we are currently looking for a custodian for two days a week. We have a custodian on Saturday, Sunday and Thursday. We need someone for Tuesday and Friday mornings between 8:00 am and noon. In the mean time we are asking our members to help by returning your drink glasses to the bar and throwing your garbage in the receptacles. It will be very appreciated.
Sincerely and Fraternally, Jack ‘Tex’ McClurken, LM, PDDGER House Committee Chairman
Message from the Grand Exalted Ruler MALCOLM J. McPHERSON JR. Oh, the places Elks will go over 150 more years
What an extraordinary year it has been! It’s hard to believe that my ten-ure as your Grand Exalted Ruler is com-ing to an end. Pat and I are extremely
humbled and grateful for this experience that allowed us to not only travel the United States, but to meet all of the men and women of the Order and witness the positive work you are doing. As you know, my theme of the past year was “Strengthening Elkdom Through Community Awareness,” and you have far exceeded my expectations. I’m so proud to say that Elks are thriving in every corner of our country. Each and every Lodge we visited is making a tangible difference in their communities in many valuable ways: unique initiatives to support our youth and those with special needs, numerous scholarship awards, and generous donations to our veterans. It was inspiring to see many Lodges use their 150th Anniver-sary Grants to further their local causes and respond to unex-pected tragedies, such as helping the victims of the devas-tating hurricanes last summer. I look forward to seeing many of you again this month in San Antonio for my final stop on this adventure, to celebrate your extraordinary accomplishments over the past year and the 150th birthday of our Order. You have so much to be proud of and I can’t wait to raise a glass in your honor. While I may be closing this chapter of my journey, our journey together as Elks is just beginning. There is much more we can accomplish and give back to our communities as we head into the next 150 years. I encourage you to keep striving for suc-cess. As Dr. Seuss wrote in his famous children’s book Oh, The Places You’ll Go!, “You’re off to Great Places! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting, So... get on your way!” I truly believe the Elks are on the road to great places, and it is you, our outstanding Members, who will lead us there. Pat and I are overwhelmed by your generosity, hospitality, and enthusiasm in welcoming us into your lives and Lodges and will forever cherish the lasting memories we have made. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We’ll see you out there again soon.
Secretary’s Message We may all slow down in the heat
of our sizzling Florida summer weather but our lodge is still a COOL place to hang out! Great food, excellent musicians, cool drinks and, most important, fellowship with our wonderful members. Continuing to frequent our lodge during the sum-mer not only continues to support our physical lodge through the lean summer months but also allows us to keep our won-derful charity programs intact. Thank you to all those that donated to our children’s charities allowing us to send 38 very deserving children to Florida Elks Youth Camp. We leave for camp on June 24th and will be returning on June 30th. I will report on our adventure upon returning from Umatilla, stay tuned! The number of delinquent members is dropping very slowly with 121 members still past due. If you have not paid your 2018-2019 dues, you are not permitted to participate in lodge activities or visit the lounge, even as a guest. We need your support to continue our charity work essential to our children, veterans and our community. I urge any past due members to catch up on our lodges charity projects and calendar of events on our website, the Elks Tale, Lowdown and eblasts. Let’s keep these good works going! I wish you all a safe, fun and relaxing summer. Be sure to give a warm welcome to all of our new Brothers and Sisters initiated in May and June. I look forward to seeing you at the lodge! Fraternally, Kathi Miller, Lodge Secretary
