President Brooks and Trustees,

I am writing as the President of the Clark County Education Association representing the 18,000 licensed educators in CCSD. Our focus, in the middle of the Covid 19 pandemic, is the health and safety of educators and the students we serve. That should be yours as well.

Never in my career as a 40 year educator in this district, have I seen the careless and reckless behavior of the members of this Board who brought his issue forward when it comes to the lives of those who they say they represent by this childish drama.

Superintendent Jara has been the first superintendent of this school district in quite awhile who has actually pushed back at the legislature and expected them to actually fund our school district adequately. Is he politically savvy, no, and that is why he is on “trial” today. I will go a step further and say that this Board is at fault because you all are not politically savvy. It has been a long time since I have seen this Board deliver a political agenda that actually addressed the most important need of this District which is the adequate funding we most desperately need. You have been called out by many other political leaders who are respected in the community for their work to grow and change our community and state for the better because of your lack of ability to appropriately lead the fifth largest school district in this country. In fact, most of you are acting like the “mean girls” who run rampant in our schools.

This superintendent has not been perfect. You just evaluated him and clearly he passed that evaluation. If you didn’t give input then, then shame on you. He spoke out for the children and educators. He did it for the right reasons. I can’t say the same for some of you.

What is even more disturbing is that this effort is being led by Trustee Danielle Ford, aself-admitted racist who has aligned herself with the Administrators union, NSEA, alongwith trustees Cavazos and Young, who all didn't do anything during the special sessionto reduce the budget cuts to education. These same groups are now aligned tocomplete a power grab for their own personal agenda.

This action should not be allowed to happen. I sincerely hope the more rationaltrustees will block this unmerited firing and restore our focus on educating our 320,000students, alleviating the fears of educators who are more worried about their health,safety, and how to maintain quality instruction in the midst of devastating cuts toeducation.
