THE SANGEETThe inspiration for Kate and Suril’s sangeet came from “the warm and inviting Indian culture,” Kate says. “We wanted guests to participate in a night full of song and dance.” Bright roses, food stations and a surprise choreographed dance all embodied the rich history of the day, which celebrates the joy of a couple and their families coming together.

THEIR STORYFor Kate Kim (30 and the cofounder and co-CEO of rmdy) and Suril Shah (35 and the founder of an investment platform), classic romance is the name of the game, but it’s not without room for unique personal touches. “We wanted our wedding to be magical and timeless, but it needed to synthesize our cultures,” Kate says. Kate and Suril planned a romantic, French chateau–inspired wedding, but preceded their Western vows with a vibrant, fun sangeet in honor of Suril’s Indian heritage. During the wedding ceremony, Kate’s brother read a poem by their grandfather, once the poet laureate of South Korea. The days of celebration and the details of each event allowed the pair to “let the outpouring of love soak in,” Kate says. —LB

VENUE Kate and Suril knew they wanted to say “I do” under trees, so “after seeing the majestic valley oaks on the property, we knew this was our spot,” Kate says. The chateau, which overlooks the hills of wine country, served as

the reception space. FIRST DANCE Self-professed “huge fans” of Stevie Wonder, the couple chose “Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours)” for their debut dance.

DÉCOR The goal of Kate and Suril’s design scheme was to “transport guests,” Kate says. Bountiful arrangements of roses and vines, soft velvet linens and gold details evoked a romantic, French-inspired vibe. DESSERT To satisfy her notorious sweet tooth, Kate chose several cakes in a variety of flavors, including

triple chocolate and spiced carrot. FAVORS The couple welcomed guests from near and far with baskets of local favorites, including honey, fruit and olive oil.
