With today’s busy lifestyles, finding the energy to stay active can be a challenge. Our daily routines can be draining and leave us with little to nothing left at the end of a busy day. Here are some tips to help you achieve the energy levels necessary to reach full potential this summer. Don’t Skip Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner As the old saying goes, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. When you start your day with a healthy meal it gives you the fuel your body needs to focus on the tasks ahead. Whole grains, fruits and dairy are excellent sources of nutrients to help get you going. Keep that momentum going into lunch and dinner, too, and make time for each. Studies have shown that skipping any meals can lead to fatigue long before you’re ready to call it a day. Snack Smarter Maintain your get-up-and-go with healthy snacks throughout the day. Summer is primetime for berries, which have an excellent nutritional profile. Berries contain high levels of vitamin C and antioxidants, which may help prevent cell damage caused by free radicals.* These unstable molecules can cause cell damage, illness and aging as cells break down over time. Foods rich in antioxidants can help alleviate these effects. Stop at the local farmers market or corner stand for fresh pickings during peak summer months. Nuts are another great snack option to help fuel your day. They deliver solid sources of healthy fat, fiber and protein. Studies have shown that almonds can help improve cholesterol, promote heart health and help lower the rise in blood sugar after a meal. Other healthy nut options include cashews, walnuts, pistachios and pecans. All of these contribute a portion of your daily nutritional intake as well as heart and cardiovascular health. Get your ZZZs A regular sleep schedule is imperative to keeping energy levels up. Getting a good night’s rest allows you to wake up refreshed and ready for the day. Keep the same bedtime routine and eliminate screens and distractions at least one hour before lights out. Aim for a minimum of 8 hours each night and avoid naps to prevent feeling restless at bedtime. If a nap is necessary to get through your day, try to keep it under 60 minutes. This will help you avoid falling into deeper stages of sleep that can cause you to wake up feeling groggy and without a second wind. Manage Your Stress Level Carrying around worry, stress and anxiety is mentally and physically exhausting. Stress can lead to tense muscles, fatigue and the inability to ”shut off” your mind when it comes time to rest. Be mindful of your stress load and make time for relaxation doing something you enjoy. Reading, walking, meditation or spending time with friends and loved ones can help alleviate the everyday stressors we encounter. Get Moving Even with an active lifestyle, regular exercise is proven to help increase energy levels and stamina. The more you move, the easier it will get to establish a routine that gives you a boost. Start with a walk or simple stretches and branch out from there. Take the stairs where possible, or the long way to your walking destination. Sedentary lifestyles can wreak havoc on energy levels. Those working at a desk or holding otherwise inactive routines often wind up with feelings of fatigue and loss of motivation mid-day. Take regular breaks to stand up and stretch or take a short walk, even if it’s just around the house or office. It may sound counterintuitive but getting up and moving around when you least feel like doing so can be a very effective ‘pick-me-up’. Water is Life There are many studies out there that have concluded that an increase in energy can be found with enough water intake. Summer heat brings perspiration, directly impacting your body’s ability to stay adequately hydrated which can wear you out in no time. The age- old recommendation of at least 8 glasses per day is a good starting point, though everyone has different needs according to their lifestyle and biological makeup. Making that your daily goal will not only help with energy levels, but promotes brain function, weight loss and other health benefits. Look for more on the importance of hydration below. The Importance of Staying Hydrated Water comprises approximately 60 percent of our body mass and keeps our bodies functioning at every level. It regulates our body temperature, carries nutrients through our cells and flushes our bodies of waste and toxins.

It also needs constant replenishment to ward off dehydration and keep bodily functions operating as they should. We lose water through breathing, perspiration, urine & bowel movements. In summer months these effects are compounded by the heat so it’s important to keep a regular water intake to replenish the higher amounts we lose.

According to the National Academies of Science, Engineering & Medicine, the recommended daily water intake is about 15.5 cups (3.7 liters) of fluids for men, and 11.5 cups (2.7 liters) of fluids for women. While that may sound like a lot and exceeds the 8-glass standard, it includes water consumption from other beverages and foods in our diet. Get as close as you can to 8 glasses a day to keep yourself properly satiated.

So, what are the benefits of enough water intake? Here’s a quick overview of the most common:

• Increases energy and performance during exercise • Promotes weight loss – drinking more water creates a sense

of fullness to prevent overeating and increased calorie intake• Improves brain function & focus• Boosts skin health and prevents premature wrinkling• Carries oxygen through the body• Cushions the brain, spinal cord, joints and other tissues• Helps with digestion• Helps maintain blood pressure• Aids in mineral & nutrient digestion • Prevents kidney damage

MOREPROTEIN

The nutritional benefits of protein in a delicious new formula.

Experts say whey protein has the highest biological value (BV) of any protein source – superior in essential amino acid content to beef, milk, casein or soy.

ALTRUM Chocolate Whey Protein Powder is a blend of three high-quality whey protein concentrates and isolates: ultrafiltered, microfiltered and enzymatically hydrolyzed (partially predigested). This blend of specially processed whey proteins is designed to maximize amino acid absorption and biological value (BV).

Not only does new Chocolate Whey Protein Powder taste great, it has 2.5 times the protein of our previous protein drink. It

also brings you the power of branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs). We’ve added an extra 420 mg. per serving of glutamine, an amino acid that is a building block of proteins and an important molecule for the immune system and intestinal system.

Each one-scoop serving provides more than 5,700 mg of branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs).

Natural color variation may occur in this product.
