Sunny Days and Summer Like Conditions... July Edition

The restrictions have been reduced and the club is somewhat back to normal. We now have coolers on the course, you can pull flagsticks out to putt and rake bunkers if you get in one. Let’s keep up the Social Distancing and be able to enjoy the rest of summer. The 4th of July might be a little different this year, but enjoy our nation’s celebration and get ready for our tournament season to begin. The MGA Stampede is just around the corner, the deadline is July 11th or until we have a full field. So make sure to find a partner and sign up for this fun and exciting event. The club has plenty of events to play in the remainder of the season, so don’t forget the Mixed Couples Club Championship, The Club Championship, The McGonagle, the Men’s & Ladies Senior Club Championship, the MGA Fall Scramble, The Ryder Cup and The Solheim Cup. Check out the website calendar or pick up a copy of the tournament booklet for more details. Just a reminder, due to the CoVid-19 virus, we have made some changes to the outing and event schedules, so please make sure and check out the website for details.

Friday Night & Sunday CouplesOur Friday Night Couples events have been great this season, we have had some great weather and we hope it continues throughout the summer. Practice Area, Ball Marks, Divots & StationsThe practice area has been great and we hope everyone is enjoying the new turf tee box. Just a couple of reminders1. Please check in the golf shop and get a ticket for your bucket of balls, please refrain from entering the cart barn. The staff will bring your range basket to you.2. Practice in a linear pattern, sand and seed your divots when you have completed your practice session. (see picture be low). 3. Bring any unused range balls and the basket back to the cart barn. 4. When the stations are up on the front of the tee, please remember it is only 250yds to the base of the netting, don’t hit drivers over the net. 5. Hours of Operation: Monday - Saturday open - 7:30pm, Sunday - Open - 5:00pm. We close early on Sunday to pick the range clean.

We will be moving the hitting stations every two days, so we will be on the mats every Monday and move the ropes every Wednesday and Friday Nights.

Please do the same on the short game area, replace your divots or sand and seed, hit in a linear pattern and rake the bunker after use. These small details will help us keep our areas in great shape. Enjoy the practice and thank you for helping our facility.

On the Golf Course: When you take a divot and it does not explode you can replace it and sand around the edges. If the divot explodes then go ahead and sand the divot, the divots will grow back if replaced properly. Help us keep our greens, tees and fairways in great shape. Don’t forget, if your shot goes in the air and lands on the green, it makes a ball mark, help us out by bending over and fixing at least TWO ball marks per green.

PGA Junior League - Our PGA Junior League season has begun and the players are excited for another great summer of golf and team competition. The players have been working hard on their short games and swings during practice and spending plenty of time on the putting greens. We had our first home match versus Shaker Run on June 23rd and our team played great. Unfortunately, we lost 6 1/2 to 5 1/2, but I’m very proud of the team, they all played great.

Upcoming Events & TournamentsJuly 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd & 29th - Men’s Wednesday Night LeagueJuly 4th Weekend - Regular Golf July 5th - Sunday Couples - 1:30pm ShotgunJuly 6th, 13th, 20th & 27th - Monday MadnessJuly 7th, 14th, 21st & 28th - Tuesday Night Ladies LeagueJuly 10th - Friday Night CouplesJuly 12th - Senior Men Vs. the LadiesJuly 13th - TTMA Event July 17th - Friday Night Stampede Event & Calcutta July 18th & 19th - MGA Stampede (Red & White Closed for Stampede) July 23rd - Ladies Invitational (9am Shotgun)July 24th - Lodge Appreciation Day & Friday Night CouplesJuly 25th - Afternoon EventJuly 26th - Couples Club ChampionshipJuly 31st - Men’s One Day Member - Guest (1:30pm Shotgun)

Just a few reminders……The USGA says that every round of golf played must be posted, please make sure to adhere and post your scores, good or bad. Don’t forget, if you play by yourself, the round can’t be posted. Please don’t forget the dress code, no denim, collared shirts or mocks and please make sure to keep your shirttails tucked in. If you are a new member of the club and our not receiving our emails, please make sure that the golf shop has your address, stop by and let us update your profile.

The Green Committee has welcomed Doug Koliboski as our new member, replacing Toni Soule who resigned due to new career opportunities at work. Doug is working to schedule a divot filling activity open to all where participants will head out on the course with divot mix and repair divots. Refreshments will be provided by the MGA following the divot filling activity. The date and time will be confirmed by Club email when the plans have been finalized.

It is good to see the number of people who have adopted the use of a linear divot pattern on the new practice tee. Please keep this up and encourage others to do so, as well. Given the greatly expanded area of the tee, and the new strain of grass which should be better suited to a practice tee, it will take some time to determine the optimum rotation pattern for the areas being used each day. Your patience is appreciated as we learn during the course of the season. Finally, please remember the sprinklers will run briefly in the early afternoon, typically starting at 1:30PM, to keep the recovering areas damp on hot days. Check with the pro shop regarding watering if you have any questions.

Regularly scheduled Green Committee meetings, suspended during the virus lockdown, will resume July 1 at 6PM in the Lodge, and subsequently resume meeting the first Wednesday of each month. Members are welcome to attend and observe at the meetings. Please direct any questions you may have to the Green Committee via email at [email protected], or by speaking with any of the following committee members: John Turner, Jared Wolever, Tom Smith, Doug Koliboski, and Matt Hinkle.

Greens Committee Report

Greetings from your superintendent: As some of you may know this past winter I was diagnosed with cancer of the tongue that also invaded my adjacent lymph nodes. I currently am 7 weeks beyond my last chemo and radiation treatments and I’m getting stronger every week. I would like to thank all people for their support and prayers.

As for the course, we are doing well so far. Tees on the white course have been aerified for better water penetration/infiltration. Red and blue courses will be next. Greens and fairways have shown steady improvement because of our increased aerification practices. The amount of localized dry spots (hydrophobic) are shrinking as well. Currently the plan for the driving range tee is after each row is utilized and moved back we will mechanically spike the affected area then topdress it and drag in the mix. Reasoning behind spiking is to sever the rhizomes (underground roots) to induce new shoot growth creating better density.

One last and very important request; when you tee off and break a peg please throw it completely off the tee into the rough. Thanks, DTE.

Greetings from your superintendent:

HELLO FELLOW ELKS:

Believe it or not, Fall is almost here and alongwith that comes some of the best golf weather ofthe year! Make sure you get out and enjoy yourgolf course. While you’re at it, bring a friend andshare the experience. Maybe they would like tobecome a member also.

On Saturday August 15th, Don Bickel, DennyNoggle and I attended the Elks State Fall Reunion (convention) inDublin, Ohio. During the Saturday morning business meeting wepresented checks to the state for ENF from the Hamilton lodge in theamount of $3,000.00.

During the meetings, there was a heavy emphasis on increasingmembership and becoming involved with the local community.Membership, I’ve been harping on all year and I’ll continue to ask eachand every one of you to please recruit new members. It will only helpmake our lodge stronger in the long run and benefit everyone.Community involvement, there are more grants available to us than wetake advantage of. There are grants for help to local Police, Fire, EMT,and community along with scholarships, etc. I’d like to see us takeadvantage of these offerings but we can’t do it alone. If you would beinterested in volunteering to learn more and helping with any of theseprojects, please let me or any of the Board members know.

Board of Directors meeting will be held at 6 pm and Lodge meeting at7 pm on the second and fourth Tuesday of September.

NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2015We are coming into the time of year where the Elks 93 newsletter will only be published every other month; so I want to mention several things that will be happening at the lodge during the November/December holiday season.

Remember that November 11 is Veterans Day. The Elks Grand Lodge has proclaimed the month of November as Veterans Recognition Month. We have several Veterans that are members of our lodge and to them I say “Thank you for your service.” Along with every other veteran that has served our country.

Since this newsletter will also cover December; I want to make sure everyone is aware that our lodge will conduct our “Empty Chair” memorial service on Sunday afternoon December 6 at 1:00 o’clock. This service is a memorial to our brethren who departed this life in 2015.

Breakfast with Santa Claus will be at the Lodge on Saturday December 12 at 9:30 a.m. Make sure to take a break from the Holiday rush and bring the kids, grandkids, nieces, and nephews so they can make sure Santa knows what is on their list before heading back to the North Pole. The Elks will provide Breakfast this year at no charge. Please contact Margaret in the lodge office on or before Monday December 7th to make your reservations so we’ll know how many to plan for.

Don’t forget to buy your tickets for the Elks New Year’s Eve Party! $150.00 per couple includes Live Music by “Stays in Vegas”, Appetizers, Buffet Dinner, Desert, Open Bar, and Champagne toast at midnight and a snack at 12:30 a.m. Sliver Tee will donate $20.00 per ticket back to the lodge. Purchase your tickets in the lodge office Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or call Margaret at 513-887-4380 Ext. 14.

Finally, as we close out 2015 I want to personally thank the members of Hamilton Lodge #93 for your help and support. 2015 has been a great year for our lodge. Let’s keep the momentum going and make 2016 even better!

Board of Directors meeting will be held at 6 pm and Lodge meeting at 7 pm on the second Tuesday of November and December.
