    Trees give off oxygen that we need to breathe. Trees reduce the amount of storm water runoff,

    which reduces erosion and pollution in our waterways and may reduce the effects of flooding.

    Many species of wildlife depend on trees for habitat. Trees provide food, protection, and

    homes for many birds and mammals.

    Plantation of trees and plants aids in making the environment better. It purifies the air,

    conserves water, helps in climate control, preserves soil and benefits the overall environment

    in several other ways.

    AEF‟s has constituted a competitive exam cell. The cell is dedicated for conducting various activities for

    grooming the students for various competitive exams. The primary focus is imparting training to the students

    for taking up career in various fields. Along with the training programme, sessions by alumni of the college

    who had been successful in competitive exams are also conducted.

    Ashoka Mentorship is a collaborative initiative of Ashoka Universal School and Ashoka International Centre

    for Educational Studies and Research (Ashoka B.Ed. College). The students who are selected under this

    program had to face three rounds which included initial screening, language test and interview. Out of 16

    shortlisted students 7 are selected. These students are allotted with different mentors from school which

    includes coordinators, headmistress, and heads. Each mentee is allotted with a mentor for effective

    functioning. These selected students are the elite students of AICESR. The objective of this program is to

    groom the students to become dynamic leaders in future. These students further depending on the vacancy

    chart will be placed with Ashoka Group of Schools. Such collaboration has given birth to the concept of pre-

    placement. In future this concept will be extended with the help of Employability Cell with other eminent

    schools of Nasik too. Ashoka International Centre for Educational Studies and Research is proud of these

    students. Their journey of Ashoka Mentorship has begun from July, 19. We wish the students all the very best

    for the program as well as their future.

    Books Review : 01

    The Seven Laws of Teaching

    - John Milton Gregory

    Every field has classic books written by the great scholars of that particular field and Dr. John Milton

    Gregory‟s The Seven Laws of Teaching (1884) is classic in Teaching field and used as a handbook for all

    the teachers around the world. The Seven Laws of Teaching is a real classic in the sense that it was first

    published in 1884 and it is very handy for not only for aspiring teachers but the teacher who are working in

    the teaching field also. The book is like a Bible for the teachers because the book is written by a hardcore

    educationist Dr. Gregory after is long contemplation about the art of teaching because he considered

    teaching as an art therefore he, in the book, thoroughly elaborated the various aspects of teaching which

    teachers may encounter while teaching in classrooms. Education is a science and it is based on two

    important aspects:

    a) The art of Training and

    b) The art of Teaching

    Dr. Gregory has very wisely laid down the laws for teacher which had helped the past generations of

    teachers and I am sure are helping the current generation and definitely shall help the future generations as

    well.

    The Laws of the Teacher:

    1. Prepare each lesson by fresh study. Last year's knowledge has necessarily faded somewhat.

    Only fresh conceptions inspire us to our best efforts.

    2. Find in the lesson its analogies to more familiar facts and principles. In these lie the

    illustrations by which it may be taught to others.

    3. Study the lesson until it takes shape in familiar language. The final product of clear thought

    is clear speech.

    4. Find the natural order of the several steps of the lesson. In every science there is a natural

    path from the simplest notions to the broadest views; so, too, in every lesson.

    Find the relation of the lesson to the lives of the learners. Its practical value lies in these relations

    Books Review : 02

    “THE STORY OF AN HOUR”

    - KATE CHOPIN

    The review below given is based on a book which is written by Kate Chopin who is a story writer, bio occupation novelist, born in United States around 1850. The stories written by Mrs Chopin would mostly

    address feminism thus she was feminist.

    As the name suggest the incident in this book is truly of an hour and thus the title makes it to be story of an

    hour. It contains basically four major characters leading with Mrs. Mallard (protagonist), Josephine (sister),

    Brantley Mallard (husband) and Richard (friend of Brantley). Mrs. Mallard is suffering from severe heart

    disease. Initially Josephine comes to Mrs. Mallard with a bad news that, Brantley Mallard is no more as he had

    a train accident which resulted into death, this news was given by Richard to Josephine and the same was

    confirmed by him. Besides this as Mrs. Mallard was suffering from heart disease so Josephine was worried

    about conveying the message. After receiving the message from her sister Mrs. Mallard gets totally hanged

    and thus she hugs her sister cries and instantly locks herself in the room thus no one goes with her as she

    needs to understand the situation by herself and wants to accept the truth. With a depressed mind she then sits

    on a arm chair in front of the window and thus thinks about the incident which has happened, eventually her

    attention goes towards the sky and she looks around where she notices various birds, the clouds and she also

    feels the smell of soil as it has rained. But after few time and constantly looking at sky a thought comes into

    her mind she feels like this was the day and the moment she was waiting for luckily such incident occurred

    but on the other hand she was distracting the herself by such thoughts and at that time she whispers a word

    “free” which she repeats and thus with free mind and no depression she feels much better and then Mrs

    Mallard also thinks that her future life is waiting for her where she could live independently and freely with

    such thoughts she relaxes herself. Josephine tells her sister to be calm and understand the situation and be

    strong but Mrs. Mallard opens the door and walks outside with confidence and having a face which symbols

    victory. Thus Mrs. Mallard and Josephine walks down the stairs and while within the moment the door gets

    opened and Mr. Mallard enters the house seeing this everyone get shocked, besides this Richard

    misunderstands and gets some wrong news but on the other hand Mrs. Mallard gets a severe heart attack and

    she dies on the spot after investigations and according to post-mortem report it was found that due to extreme

    joy and happiness by seeing Mr. Mallard in the house she got a severe heart attack, this was because Mrs.

    Mallard was in a thought of living an independent and free life and within few moment all her dreams got

    broken and then she got instantly shocked and there was no balance in her emotions thus it resulted into

    death.

    The story of an hour tells us a good thing that an individual should be strong physically as well as emotionally

    and should have control on the emotions. A balanced and stabled mind makes person much stronger.

    BOOK REVIEW ON IGNITED MINDS

    “Ignited Minds” is a very well known book written by Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam on 15th

    October in 1931.

    Dr. A.P.J.Kalam was Ex-President of India and in today's world he is recognized as the visionary of

    youth in India.

    He has written this book to basically wake up the youth of India to enlighten their minds and become

    the bright future of India.

    Attractive in its simplicity and extraordinary in its potential, here is an excellent and thought

    provoking books for all Indians, especially youth.

    The author says that India has lots of skills, resources and talents to make our country a developed

    nation but they go underused and unused.

    Each chapter of this book is rich with experiences and quotations of great personalities of all walk.

    Youth area of greater source to bring about revolution in the nation.

    In this era youth have developed to an extent where in there is possibility of them having the

    potential of driving the nation on the right track. The author has tried to influence and make youth

    are the links to the grand future.

    We should ignite our dormant inner energy and let it guide our lives.

    The radiance of such minds embarked on constructive endeavour will bring peace, prosperity and

    bliss to the nation.

    His youth power strong through his work in this book.

    The people, who impart the best of their guidance, can be your role model.

    Firmly, one’s role model should be their parents or their teachers.

    It is said that behind the parents stands the school and behind the teacher the home.

    Education and the teacher-student relationship have to be seen not in business terms but with the

    nation’s growth in mind.

    Nehru, to name a few, who can involve the entire generation in mission-driven programmes which

    benefit the country as a whole.

    It is a fact that we have advanced technologically but spiritually we have not.

    PATRIOTISM BEYOND POLITICS AND RELIGION

    There are success stories among failures.

    There is hope among chaos, promise among problems. We are one billion people with multiple faiths

    and ideologies.

    In the absence of a national vision cracks at the seam keep surfacing and make us vulnerable.

    There is a need to reinforce this seam and amalgamate us into one national forum.

    BUILDING A NEW STATE

    The way to development is through purposeful activity. The young especially have to be guided

    properly, so that their lives find a proper direction and their creativity is allowed to flower. To

    facilitate this, certain educational reforms must be initiated.

    With regard to improving the pace of development, centre-state efforts should be coordinated in a

    few key areas and efforts across sectors and organizations.

    The mindset must change, showing willingness to take pragmatic risks.

    As it is rightly said “FOLLOW EXCELLENCE SUCCESS WILL AUTOMATICALLY FOLLOW YOU”.

    EVALUATION OF BOOK

    The major strength of this book lies in the name itself where to ignite the minds of the youth who

    can bring revolutions in the world and can change the scenario of the nation.

    Weakness of this book lies in just dealing with the matters of youth and enlighten their minds

    whereas India is being ruled by many age old people who also need to be motivated to bring

    revolutions that a right for the nation and that too through fair means.

    Name of the Book- Seven Habits of Highly Effective People

    Author-Written by Stephen Covey

    A beautiful book which gives information about seven habits that can make an individual an effective person.

    The seven habits mentioned in the book are Be proactive, Begin with the end in Mind, Put First thing First,

    Think Win/ Win, Seek First to Understand and then to be understood, Synergize and Sharpen the saw.

    I shall give in brief information of these seven habits one by one:

    1. Be proactive

    Pro activity has a lot to do with a person‟s “circle of influence”. It deals with questions like what you can

    control, what you can influence and what is out of your reach. Pro active people pause to allow themselves

    the freedom to choose their response based on principles and desired results. Their freedom to choose

    expands as they wisely use the space between stimulus and response. Being proactive is strongly related to

    acknowledging your own responsibility and influence. The first big step that has to be taken is the step from

    dependence to independence. Here you will begin to determine your own life by using your own agenda. You

    are aware of the fact that you are the architect of your own life and with this knowledge you set to work.

    2. Begin with the end in Mind

    This is the habit of vision, objectives, and mission. Beginning with the end in mind means that when you

    make decisions today you consistently take into consideration what you stand for „in general‟. Habit 2 has to

    do with the principles and guidelines you choose to live by. You determine what you find important in life,

    what you stand for, what you want to accomplish.

    3. Put first things first

    This habit has to do with integrity, discipline, sticking to your agreements. What is life about, and how do you

    wish to shape your own life? Knowing this, you will get to work pro-actively while setting the right priorities.

    The second big step is that of independence to (self-selected) interdependence.

    4. Think win-win

    This is the habit of the Paradox. Temptation is strong to think in terms of winning OR losing- or wanting to be

    right. The trick is to recognize that a paradox provides an opportunity to unite the poles. You will be

    independent but at the same time you realize that you can accomplish more by cooperating with other people.

    You know what you are worth, but you also realize that you need the other person and that it is important to

    give and receive love. You can accomplish this by thinking in terms of win-win. In case of conflicts you will

    always search for solutions that are fair to all parties and in which there are no losers.

    5. Seek first to understand then to be understood

    Concentrate first on understanding the other person and then put energy into being understood. This is the

    habit of listening one of the basic qualities of a leader or a coach.

    6. Synergize

    The sixth habit of the seven habits of highly effective people, that is required to achieve interdependence is

    synergizing. This means that your approach is fundamentally based on respect, cooperation and trust. This is

    the habit of strengthening. The pitfall is compromise. The objective is to find the third path: how can two

    paradoxes be combined into something better?

    7. Sharpen the saw

    The last, seventh habit of the seven habits of highly effective people is maintenance. This is the habit that tells

    you that are with improving yourself and perseverance. By taking plenty of exercise, rest, meditation,

    etcetera, you will keep your body, mind, relationships and spirituality in balance.
