president’s message

Summer is here, I hope everyone is enjoying the re-markable warm weather, any chance you get.

School is out soon; I encourage families to take advan-tage of the great outdoor activities and maybe discover a few new spots in and around Calgary. Check out these two websites for more information: City of Calgary free summer events https://www.calgary.ca/CSPS/CNS/Pag-es/Children-and-youth/Seasonal-programs/Seasonal-Programs.aspx or https://allevents.in/calgary/calendar#

Rink replacement is complete, so take a stroll to see our new rink. The basketball hoops should be up and ready for the folks to play ball. Maybe the next Raptor will be a Kingsland player?

Amy joined the Board, as of May 23, 2019, as a new Open Director. She is interested in assisting with the Planning Committee. Thank you, Amy, for supporting your community.

Kingsland’s website has a new look - it has been up-dated and enhanced and went live June 3, 2019. Go to

A thank you to the Monday Bridge players,

who donated $655 back to the community Association!

Residents, let’s be the eyes for our community; please report any suspi-cious activity, no matter how small, to Calgary Police Services by calling 311 to log the incident. The police track the incidents and allocate re-sources accordingly. If see police in the community, they are patrolling the neighbourhood to keep us safe.

http://kingslandcommunity.ca/ to check it out. It would be great to get some feedback.

The board would like to hear from the residents; send your emails to [email protected]. How are we doing? Do you like the information on Facebook, the hall, website, events, clean-up day, etc.?

Board meetings will resume in September, with the first meeting to be announced in the newsletter. Check the website for additional information. Thank-you to my fabulous team, the Board of Directors, for volunteering your time to support our community. Take time to relax and enjoy your summer.

BoB – the Benefits of Bootcampsby Nora Anash

Spring is here and warmer weather is approaching. A new season may mean changing up your workouts or increasing your level of activity, but what activity should you do? You could start running, hiking, biking, or trying a group fitness class like bootcamps.Bootcamps have achieved a reputation for being a no-non-sense workout. There are many different types that have plethora of fitness benefits. Here are some things to know to help you find a class that fits your needs. Bootcamp is a type of class that includes different training methods and approaches. For example, High Intensity In-terval Training, a.k.a. HIIT, could be one part of a bootcamp

class or the lead actor. An instructor may also include classic strength training techniques like super setting, perform-ing an exercise back-to-back with no break, or running you through mini circuits that include a combination of car-dio, strength, and flexibility exercises. Creative instructors may also incorporate partner training, games and obstacle courses into the class, which builds camaraderie and infuses fun into the workout. Bootcamp classes are great for people who get bored easily, appreciate variety in their workouts, and enjoy working out in a group setting. These classes can help meet your fitness goals, whether you’re looking to lose weight, improve your strength and power, or maintain your current fitness level. The most important thing is to not be intimidated! Before you start looking for a bootcamp class or any fitness class un-derstand your fitness goals, your fitness personality and what motivates you. Also, investigate the class and the instructor who runs it. Is the class moderate or high intensity? Inside or outside? Are modifications offered? A bootcamp class can be challenging but understanding your needs and what to expect in the class will set you up for success.
