TRIVIA
Last month’s question: What car company was originally known as Swallow Sidecars (aka SS)?
Answer: Jaguar, which was an SS model, first in
1935, and ultimately the whole company by
1945
This month’s question: Which of the Chrysler “letter cars” sold the fewest amount? *********************************
“Those who rebuke the wicked will have delight, and a good blessing will come upon them.”……………...Proverbs 24:24
******************************************************************************
I heard that when Marco Polo first opened the trade routes to China, he was quite impressed with their rockets. Now, these
weren't quite the fireworks we now know, but they did shoot into the air, explode and make some pretty patterns. Strangely, no
matter where he went, there were people who made fireworks, but he had trouble finding someone to demonstrate them for him.
"Not here!" they said. ...very confusing. Until ol' Marc came upon an ancient military fortification at the community of Chu'Lai.
Here, fireworks were launched every night, and Marc was very impressed!
But still he wondered, "Why here?" At the end of every week, people came from great distances, bringing their own fireworks to
launch. So Marco Polo asked his guide why everyone came here to launch their fireworks.
Marc's guide replied: "Why honored Sir, ... We always set off fireworks on the Forts of Chu'Lai"
EAST BAY CHAPTER
EAST BAY BANTER
BY: Ken Rogers
Hi from East Bay,
On June 1st we had 4 F-100’s truck on over to Port City
Chapter’s “Cruisin’ the Grove” run. We were met by great
weather, and there was a nice turnout of F-100’s and
vintage vehicles, all at a neat park. We were surprised to
see Ed and Fran Gould, who were members in the old
Capitol City Chapter. This chapter broke up about 18
years ago. It was nice visiting and talking about the old
days. Ed informed us he is looking for another F-100, and
might make it to this year’s North-South Run. It was also
nice to see Art Davis up and around again. Paul Thorn
received a “Top 20” award at this run.
East Bay member, Wally Wallace, recently had back
and hernia surgeries, and his recovery is doing well.
On June 8th we had some members attend the Cobblers
Car Show in Hayward. This show has been around for
years and draws a lot of vintage vehicles and folks to view
the show. There’s no awards, just a fun get together, with
free hot dogs and coke.
We hope to make it the Summer Bash, in Modesto, on
July 20th.
See you at the North-South Run.

Modesto Happenings
By:Bob Hansen
In the summertime …. when all the leaves are green …..and the bluebirds sing – we were at Cruisin’ the Grove in
Stockton, supporting the Port City Chapter run. Beautiful day to get together with fellow car enthusiasts – weather and
location were great. From our Chapter, attending were John and Linda Walsh, Bob and Susan Hansen, Michael and Leanne
Robinson, Dusty Johnson, and guests Tom and Theresa Powell. Everyone had a good time – good food available, DJ, nice
cars, raffle, lots of trophies, and poker walk. Even the park maintenance guys showed up to enjoy the show!
4
We successfully put on our 21st Annual Back to Graffiti on June 13 and 14 at the Fruit Yard. We transformed a quiet park-
like setting into the hustle and bustle of a 200 car show with 29 vendors. It looks like the scramble over the last few months
to get flyers out paid off in a bigger and better show. Friday night, we had a barbecue chicken dinner, courtesy of the Fruit
Yard Restaurant for pre-registered. There was live music provided by The
Fruit Yard Friday night and all day Saturday. We also had Gene Adams, our
DJ, inside the park again this year. Gene does a great job and has DJ’d our
events for several years. Many members spent a great deal of time and
energy making this car show a smooth-running success. 100 generous goody
bags were collected by members and packed in advance and loaded into a
trailer by Ken Stone, Ralph Haverson, and Bob and Susan Hansen. Over 40
trophies were awarded to a vast variety of vehicles from low-riders to super
customs, from a Peterbuilt truck chopped, narrowed and channeled to good
old Ford trucks. We even had a tricked out rebuilt flathead engine and
transmission (don’t know what happened to the vehicle!). We tried a major-
prize bucket raffle this year and made it a success. Shriners clowns showed
up as usual and were a big hit with everyone. They could be seen driving
around the show in their break-apart car and blowing up balloon animals for
the kids.
We all had a good time kicking back in the shade to socialize. All in all, we raised over $6,000 for the charities we support
as a club. Congratulations to all involved.

Who’s Working on What
Don’t forget Summer Bash coming up on July 20th. Looking forward to seeing some of our friends from other chapters. It
will be held in the beautiful park at the Fruit Yard – lots of shade – lots of fun – and a world renowned raffle, which we plan on
moving along smoothly.
See you there!!

restoration and has some rust where the factory vinyl top was and in the passenger side trunk extension/lower quarter panel.
I have a clear title and a non op registration on the car, so no extra fees upon transfer. Its a great place to start for a

FOR SALE: 1956 Ford vintage and classic F-250 4 speed with what appears to be OVERDRIVE. I acquired this truck with
the intention to fix it up but that didn't work out. I don't have a garage or adequate place to work on it. So here's your chance
to pick up a very solid truck for restoration or customizing.
Has California title registered through Jan 2015. Includes a new factory repair manual and truck cover.
The body is virtually rust free (some surface rust) with some bondo. VERY solid cab, doors, fenders, hood, frame. Looks like
the cab floor might have been replaced or sandblasted. It has the original seat and gas tank which are not pictured here.
Front bumper is missing, though readily available, and the rear bumper was customized. The bed has been lined with
aluminum panels.
It doesn't run and has a Lincoln engine which appears to be an optional engine of that era. Some heavy duty trucks have a
Y-Block which where for both Ford, Mercury and Lincoln. From what I understand these were hot rod motors of their time.
The casting number on the intake manifold shows it is a ECU series.
The transmission is a full synchro 4 speed with letters OD in the middle of the shifter knob which should mean it has
overdrive. The brakes feel like they still work. Lots of original parts still on the truck.
It has an 8 lug rear end installed which probably wasn't stock, since I'm guessing it is a 1 ton rear end and this is a 3/4 ton. I
do know where I can pick up a rear end out of a 1957 1/2 ton if need be. Also installed is an auxiliary gas tank underneath
the rear of the bed. It is a very sanitary installation.
Has most of the original dash parts and the cab is in good condition. The hood has been modified which for an original
restoration would need to be changed back but for a rodder would be perfect in that it slides and tilts forward - no head
banging. Information: Bill Manning @ [email protected] or www.myhistorydvd.com or 619.980.0769
