The HCG Story...The story of HCG began in the Fifties when, after having done research on weight loss for 40 years and research on HCG specifically for twenty years, Dr. Simeons reported that patients taking small amounts of HCG, in conjunction with a very low calorie diet, could lose weight safely and quickly, without exercise, hunger, irritability, muscle injury or weakness.

But all HCG is not created equal. Unfortunately, there has been a lot of confusion created by products being sold without guidance that call themselves “HCG” but do not contain any in their ingredient list. HCG is one of 67 hormones naturally produced in the human body, so if a product states that it is hormone free; it is not HCG. Dr. Simeons’ diet protocol ought not to be followed without real HCG. The Pounds and Inches Away program starts with pharmaceutical HCG.

HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) is not a growth or sex hormone; it does not feminize men or masculinize women. It is not an appetite suppressant, stimulant or vitamin supplement. Nor does HCG produce weight loss by itself. However, in concert with a very specific balanced diet, and our help in avoiding unexpected environmental or behavioral deviations, HCG will allow the body to naturally pull the nutrients and calories needed from stored fat reserves into the blood stream at the rate of 1500 to 4000 calories per day.

We are sure that those who follow our protocol WILL lose 20-30 pounds in 40 days. These fantastic results ARE typical with our full service packages. The Pounds and Inches Away program is not your run of the mill “eat less and exercise more” diet for a slow loss of 1 to 2 pounds a week that seems to take the rest of your life. Our protocol tricks Mother Nature a little, maybe, however only natural processes are at work. Per Dr. Simeons, it is safe and so very effective.

Today an increasing number of dieters, many of whom had given up hope in their journey to lose weight, are turning to the Pounds and Inches Away Program to permanently lose unwanted weight. We are expert consultants, here to guide your weight loss experience from beginning to thin!

At Pounds and Inches Away, we are also excited to be able to offer Whole Body Vibration technology by Advanced Healthworks to help people reach their goals. Ten minutes on our “Jiggy” machine produces benefits comparable to those gained in a one-hour workout without the sweat and effort of traditional exercise. More than 700 medical studies have been published about the health benefits of Whole Body Vibration. These benefits include improved circulation, increased muscle strength and flexibility, better core conditioning, improved range of motion, enhanced metabolism, increased bone density, and more. The Whole Body Vibration technology has also been used to improve problems with osteoporosis, diabetic neuropathy, fibromyalgia, incontinence, arthritis, Parkinson’s’ disease and other conditions. We encourage the use of these machines for their wonderful skin tightening effects.

We are excited to announce the opening of our Pounds and Inches Away Weight Loss Salon in Indianapolis near Castleton Square Mall. We are new to this area and are offering the products and support needed for success on the revolutionary HCG diet protocol developed by Dr. A.T.W. Simeons.

To get slim and stay that way, call our office at (317) 849-THIN today. We will help you reach your weight loss goals and improve your health, appearance and self-image. Nothing tastes as good as THIN feels…

I have been so very blessed in my life. My parents retired to Florida from a small town in Western New York. After mom passed away, Dad stayed in Florida until the last 3 years of his life when he came to live with Mark and I. While sometimes challenging, I wouldn’t trade that time for anything. He would go back to Florida every winter for 4 to 6 weeks and do the things he loved most – spending time with friends reminiscing, dancing the night with his lady friend, fishing along the surf, playing poker with the guys. In 2010 while there, he suffered a massive stroke. When I got the call and hopped on the next plane, I told Mark I didn’t know whether I would be back in a week, a month or what. Dad passed away; I took care of things and didn’t work for two months. From that small town I grew up in, I have stayed really close friends with 4 classmates from grade school. We get together for at least a long weekend every year. This May, one of my friends came to visit while Mark went fishing in Wisconsin with our son and grandson. Such fun…5 days just being a girlfriend. I had no idea when she left on Tuesday, I would see her again on Sunday. You see her Dad passed away

suddenly, so I went to be by her side. She didn’t expect me. But between the look on her face when I arrived and the note she sent after that read, “Karen, I don’t know how to tell you how much it meant to see you walk through that room. Just knowing you were close brought so much comfort….”.You see these are what I believe to be two examples of real time freedom. I don’t have to ask a boss for time off or to use limited vacation time. When I want to go to the zoo on a Tuesday with my granddaughter or on the spur of the moment go out for breakfast at 10 am with my husband, I do.So if you want time and money to no longer govern every decision you make and want to learn more about how you too can have your own business and real time freedom, give me a call. Many clients walk into my office wanting to sort out their feelings about a broken relationship. Through the course of therapy they have the opportunity to decide whether they are going to try “one more time” to make their partnerships work. Here is the advice I give to help them sort out their feelings.

When you agree to begin a relationship, there are no guarantees that it will work out. There will be times that you will feel rejected or get hurt. As with most beginnings, you are on your best behavior looking for ways to please each other and win them over. Oftentimes you give what you really want from the other person.

After six to twelve months, the relationship begins to normalize. You get to know each other’s insecurities, flaws, or faults. It becomes more difficult to please each other and each partner becomes more focused on their own needs and works less on taking care of the other person. If children are involved, it becomes even easier to ignore each other’s needs and to focus on the children. When couples are in distress it becomes an avoidance strategy to keep from feeling the lack of intimacy that is in the marriage.

When partners stop meeting each other’s needs, many things can happen including infidelity, alcoholism, drug abuse, overspending, workaholism, and other destructive tendencies. Some people stay in the unhappy marriage while others choose to separate or divorce.

So what do you do when you want to try it one more time? In most cases I encourage clients to try until they just can’t try anymore. There may be a lot of baggage from an unhappy marriage but it is worth the investment to do what ever it takes to repair it. If there has been too much damage and the relationship is not repairable, at least you know you’ve tried and there will be no regrets. In my practice, I encourage people

to risk as opposed to feeling the regret of not trying.

If you make the decision to try it again, you will need to:

• Goslow• Forgiveyourselfand

eachotherforthepast

• Reestablishthefriendship• Findoutwhatthegoalsareforeachofyou

andletyourpartnerknowhowyoufeelabouttheprogressthatisoccurringinyourrelationship

• Focusonbeingacouple.Makesuretoincreasethe“funfactor”torenewtocommonalitiesthatdrewyoutogether

• Lookforpositiveinfluencesthatcansupportyouasacouple.ForsomecouplesthismeanstheymaydecidetoattendreligiousservicestogetherorjoinasmallgroupBiblestudyorcongregatewithotherhealthycoupleswhowillsupportyourlivestogether.

• Givetherelationshiptime• Mostimportantly,youmustagreenotto

bringupthepast,buttoacceptthefactthatyouasacouplehavedecidedtorebuildyourrelationshipasopposedtotearitdown.

It takes maturity to rebuild a marriage. It is human nature to experience pain and to want to lash out or revert back to past pain. You may even want to disappear from the relationship. It’s that fight or flight reaction to being hurt. Just remember, when you choose to rebuild the relationship, you may be setting yourself up for additional pain, but you will know that you gave it your all.

Health & Nutrition Technology (HNT-Indiana) opened in October 2002 under the medical and program directorship of Dawn Ayers MD-endocrinology and Sheila Henson RD. Dr. Ayer’s reputation as a phenomenal physician who cares for her

patients with compassion is as true today as when we opened 10 years ago. To know her as Dawn or Dr. Ayers is one in the same.

Dr. Ayers recognized the need for an effective weight management program in Central Indiana. She had aspirations to offer a non-surgical medical option to her patients beyond standard commercial or support programs. Thus it was an ideal fit to team up such a well-known and respected medical provider in conjunction with the proven behavior modification program in HNT. The result: the need of providing safe rapid and effective weight loss is being met—consistently! The average weight loss is 17% in the first 20 weeks; maintained at one, two and three plus years out.

The entire team consists of four dedicated Registered Dietitians specializing in the field of obesity management. Having grown over the years there are various central Indiana locations: Monday evenings at Carmel St Vincent Professional Bld suite 275; Tuesday evening at Riverview Hospital 4 TCU classroom; Thursday evening at Community Health North 7250 Bld suite 100; Thursday evening at American Health Network in Peru, IN; and week days and Tuesday evenings at our home base 1201 E Main St suite B, Plainfield, IN.

An average weight loss of 50 lbs is life changing. Our approach includes medical supervision as is appropriate per individual needs. Every participant is involved in the behavior modification process whether they have 25 or 250 lbs to lose. We utilize a restricted caloric meal plan incorporating Health One meal replacements. This versatile tool allows individuals to accomplish their health and weight goals. Exceptional nutrition is obtained with 125% of all RDIs, 75g protein, in approximately 1000 calories with variety and flexibility in cooking, and continued use for as long as they wish.

We are proud to offer Health & Nutrition Technology, medically supervised weight loss, as a viable, safe, rapid, and effective approach to a very difficult reality for much of our nation and fellow Hoosiers. If you are ready to change your life call us, Sheila Henson RD, Christina Varvel RD, Roxanne Standeford RD, Karen Hartung RD and Dawn Ayers MD at (317) 489-4817 or visit www.hntindiana.com.

Business SPOTLIGHT

Students Are Priority #1 at Medtech College When it comes to higher education, students have choices. In deciding what’s right for them, they come face-to-face with a multitude of program options, from deciding on a field of study to choosing a diploma or degree program. It’s all about finding the right opportunity — the right fit — so each student can prepare herself or himself for an emerging career, such as in healthcare.

From the moment someone inquires about enrolling in a healthcare career training program at Medtech College, campus associates make a point to ensure that student is a priority. After all, Medtech’s Noble Cause is “Creating New Futures.” And in order to create new futures, Medtech considers students its “customers,” much like a manager would treat store guests.

Hands-On TrainingAs part of its customer service focus, Medtech identifies students’ needs and provides services and products to meet them. For healthcare careers, it’s important to focus on hands-on training. Medtech’s campuses in Indianapolis and Greenwood (with a third in Fort Wayne) offer an educational environment in which students learn through hands-on experience under the supervision of industry experts.

Medtech’s experiential learning approach prepares students for a lifetime of success and fulfillment within a variety of expanding healthcare career paths. And, with a focus on student service and satisfaction, Medtech’s program options are designed for students seeking to achieve their full potential and create new futures for themselves.

Registered Nurse student Jennifer Goff is nearing her final quarter at the Indianapolis campus and credits Medtech’s hands-on training and technology for preparing her for the future.

“In the SIMS lab, we have dolls that can prepare us to act in

different scenarios. We can hear its heart beat, breathe, take its blood pressure, start IVs… it can even give birth!” she said.

The Medtech Difference At a typical college, students tend to be between 18 and 22 years old. On Medtech’s Indianapolis campus, nearly one-third of the students are 20 to 24, but almost as many (25 percent) are 25-29 and significant numbers are between the ages of 30 and 40 — some 29 percent. Whether students are fresh out of high school or enrolling in courses later in life, they can be assured Medtech professors and associates will be accessible to assist in any way possible to help them achieve their goals.

Jobs, Jobs, JobsAccording to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, healthcare jobs are growing faster than any other occupation. Employment of registered nurses, for example, is expected to grow 26 percent from 2010 to 2020. For medical assistants, it’s 31 percent.

And while unemployment across the U.S. is still high, in Indianapolis, employment growth for registered nurses was nearly 7 percent in 2011. For medical assistants, job opportunities climbed 8.5 percent. The data suggest Medtech

graduates are embarking on careers in a field that is growing rapidly.

“The world needs nurses,” Goff said.

The Indianapolis campus has prepared more than 1,700 trained healthcare workers since being established, with some 1,200 more at Medtech’s other Midwestern campuses. Through its service focus on healthcare students, Medtech College contributes to a key component of the region’s economic engine.

Graduates have gone on to work at top-notch employers like St. Vincent Health, Community Hospital and Wishard Health Services.

For more information about preparing for a healthcare career at Medtech College, call the Indianapolis campus at 317-845-0300, or the Greenwood campus at 317-534-0322.

Breast Awareness Month is October so this article may seem somewhat pre-mature however, there are things you can begin doing now that will have significant impact on your breast health.

First, let’s understand your lymphatic system. You have a lymphatic system throughout your entire body; however, it’s more concentrated in your breast area. Your lymph fluid is full of white blood cells, also known as lymphocytes (your body’s defense system). Your body circulates this lymphatic fluid to destroy and remove cancer cells, viruses, bacteria, microorganisms, toxins and waste material.

The elastic portion of a bra, that circles your ribs, pinches off the lymphatic system making it unable to carry away these toxins. Thus, what’s in the lymphatic system is sitting in your breast tissue looking for trouble. Just the act of taking off your bra does not start your lymphatic system moving again!

Cheryl Chapman is a nurse whose personal and clinical experience led her to develop a protocol called P.H.L.U.F.F. the Girls. The basis of this phenomenal breast protocol is that as soon as you take your bra off, you must PHLUFF your Girls. (Go to www.IndyTherm.com to learn this technique.) It’ll take about 7 seconds a day to do and while it’s such a simple and easy to follow regimen, it’s one of the best preventative measures you can do for your breast health. It accomplishes 3 things: familiarity with your breasts (will help you know if something is ‘off’ sooner), it softens fibrocystic breast tissue (making them less tender), and it gets your breast’s lymphatic system moving.

So ask the women you love, “Have you PHLUFFed your girls today?”

More so now than ever, patients are being prompted to become more informed consumers, carefully comparison-price shopping for their medical needs without sacrificing quality of care.

Many people and employers would be surprised to learn how much they could save if they shopped around for medical imaging services, such as an MRI scan. An analysis of the Greater Indianapolis market shows that an MRI exam at an area hospital can cost up to 75% more than at a non-hospital affiliated or independent imaging facility.

ProScan Imaging is a non-hospital affiliated network offering three imaging centers in the Indianapolis area located in Avon, Carmel, and Fishers. Stephen Pomeranz, M.D., CEO and Medical Director at ProScan, explains that more patients are asking about costs. “Today’s patients are more informed,” he explains. “They want to know how they can save healthcare dollars. But more important, they want quality care.”

Patients are increasingly asked to play a role in lowering their healthcare costs; however, selecting the best diagnostic imaging provider can be difficult. Health insurers can often work with patients to help them find quality imaging services at lower prices. Patients can also directly contact hospitals and independent centers or visit providers’ websites for pricing details and quotes for particular exams.

“ProScan offers a high quality, low cost alternative,” comments Mark Grossman, ProScan’s Chief Operating Officer. Compared to a hospital-based facility, ProScan’s services can cost 50% to 80% less while still providing state-of-art technology, world-renowned medical expertise, and excellent customer service. “It comes down to patients realizing that it’s their money and their choice where they receive imaging services.”

For more information about your medical imaging options, visit www.proscan.com/indy

or call 317-874-0000.

Kate Bova Drury, the Winner of the 2012 Starkey Entrepreneurial Woman Award (“SEWA”), loves running her businesses. She is the quintessential entrepreneur, and her courage, tenacity and selflessness in starting and running The Flying Cupcake won her the coveted title of the 2012 SEWA Winner. In 2007, she started The Flying Cupcake, Indiana’s first cupcake bakery. Now, The Flying Cupcake encompasses four area locations, including a 4000 square foot baking commissary in Carmel, and it employs nearly 40 employees. Kate has plans in the works for two additional locations, one of which is a mobile cupcake truck. Armed with a law degree, a tremendous work

ethic and a creative and unique idea, Kate set off to open her cupcake bakery. Her first trip to a bank for a business loan turned to disappointment, as the bank could not accept the concept of a cupcake bakery. With no other alternative, Kate took out a second mortgage on her home to pay for the initial build-out and the associated startup costs. Her tenacity paid off as she was able to pay off that loan within the first 20 months of opening the first store. Now, with four locations and two more on the way, she can surely “taste” her success.

Harrison & Moberly, LLP, and Marti Starkey, Trust & Estate Attorney, sponsors of the SEWA Awards, congratulate Kate Bova Drury on this well-deserved honor.

POLYCYSTIC OVARIESWhat is Polycystic Ovaries?Polycystic ovaries, polycystic ovarian syndrome or PCOS is a set of endocrine (hormonal) problems that affect 5-10% of women. Symptoms may vary, but can include: 1) Anovulation (when the ovaries do not release eggs) and periods may be irregular or absent. 2) Too much androgen (male hormones), primarily testosterone, can cause acne, thick dark hair in unexpected places, such as the upper lip, chin, chest, back and stomach. Androgens can also cause oily skin, dandruff, thinning hair and weight gain, especially around the abdomen. 3) Cysts in the ovaries and enlarged ovaries. Normal ovaries are smooth and about the size and shape of an almond, but after months of anovulation, small cysts remain in the ovary making it more difficult for an egg to be released each month. What Causes PCOS?Insulin resistance plays a key role in PCOS. Insulin is a hormone that helps move glucose from the bloodstream into the body’s cells for energy. If the body’s cells do not respond to the effects of insulin, the level of glucose (sugar) in the blood increases. Higher levels of blood sugar may lead to diabetes. Insulin resistance may also cause the body to produce more insulin, which can

cause increase appetite and lead to imbalances in other hormones. Insulin resistance may be genetic (passed down through a person’s genes) and women with PCOS are more likely to have one or more close family members with diabetes. In fact, women with PCOS are 3 to 7 times more likely to develop diabetes.Diagnosing PCOSThe diagnosis of PCOS is based on medical history, physical exam, ultrasound of the ovaries, and results of lab tests.Treating PCOSTreatment for PCOS depends on the problems you are having and whether or not you are trying to get pregnant. For women wanting to become pregnant, taking insulin-sensitizing medications can improve ovulation and egg quality by helping the body utilize insulin more efficiently. For some, this alone can restore fertility. Others may need additional medications that can help increase egg production and ovulation, which will help improve the chances for conception. Also, data suggests that long-term use of these insulin-sensitizing agents can correct the underlying metabolic abnormalities and may delay or reduce the chances of developing diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

Once upon a time there was a woman who was swimming across a lake with a rock in her hand. As she was getting close to the middle of the lake she began to sink because of the weight of the rock. She would go down below the water and then pop back up again. As she did this, the people who were watching from the shore were screaming at her to drop the rock. She continued to swim until she could no longer hold herself above the water and even though people were shouting to drop the rock, she wouldn’t do it, and just before she went under one last time, not to come up again, the onlookers heard her say, “I can’t, it’s mine.”

Every one of us has a story about our past that is a less than joyful experience. For many, that story has followed them into the present moment, allowing it to define who they are today, allowing it to keep certain beliefs about themselves and situations in their life now, alive and ongoing while weighing them down.

Today I’d like to invite you to drop the story you hear yourself telling over and over again, in various ways, during present circumstances, for the simple reason that you are not your story. What happened back in the good old days doesn’t mean you have to keep playing the same role and making the same choices disguised as new choices, just because it’s how the story goes.

Now that you’re an adult, you get to make choices that serve your highest

good...choices that will allow you to grow and connect with your true desires. You get to create experiences for yourself that make you feel good. You don’t have to keep playing the role of your past just to keep the people you experienced your past stuff with, happy or satisfied.

Any story you’re holding onto that brings you frustration, keeps you stuck, or in your smallness, is of no use to you now. In this very moment you get to be story free. You get to look at everything that is working in your life, no matter how small, and start to build a new truth from that. The more you focus on the small things working in your life the bigger they become.

Here are some questions worth answering as you drop your story:

Who do you want to be in this moment of time? How do you want to show up in the world? What do you want people to experience when they stand in your presence? What story or stories are you willing to drop immediately so you can move forward easily and effortlessly? What are you willing to say about yourself right now that you weren’t willing to say before you decided to drop your story?
