usually shutdown in the Summer, the lead time for one of these could extend quite a bit if you don't move soon.
By the way, last Saturday we peeked into Circle Porsche's Service Bay. Eye Candy!!!. Five cars in a row being readied
for delivery: A 2008 Turbo, a Turbo Cab, a GT3, a GT2 and the orange GT3RS (see photo).
Before I forget, I need to make a small correction. In a photo from the Poppy Fields Tour in Palmdale, I
described a Joshua Tree as a "large cactus." My apologies. See what happens when I'm trying to think at 2:00AM?
Things are going well in the club. Membership continues to grow at a pleasant rate. The 2-day Porsche Sport Driving School offer in Novem-ber is sold out with a waiting list. Thanks to all who signed up. It'll be a blast — "Life Changing" is how I hear it described.

On the Cover...Pete Ross took this photo of Will Sanchez' stunning 1958 356 Speedster. There were so many great cars there, it was very difficult to pick a cover photo.
Whew!!! What a month. Suesan and I just got back from the 53rd Porsche Parade in Charlotte, North Carolina, preceded by a week with Suesan's family in Toronto. Lots of fun, lots of people, lots of cars... and no humidity (double whew!).
There were lots of people from Porsche AG and Porsche Cars North Amer-ica, including Hans Peter Porsche, who was attend-ing his 30th Parade. Truly amazing. Also in attendance was Norbert Singer, Senior Engineer for Porsche. Norbert was signing copies of his book, 24:16, celebrating Porsche's 16 wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Norbert played a key role in every one of those victo-ries, and this book provides insight into the cars, the drivers, the challenges and the achievements. Norbert also conducted a tech session on the subject, which included a bit of technical information supported with graphs, etc. It was the ultimate for the Porsche Racing Geke.
I'll cover the Parade more next month, but let me just say here that next year's Parade is being conducted in Keystone, Colorado, about 90 miles north of Denver in a resort located at about 9200 foot elevation. We saw a video presentation of the site... It is gorgeous. This June 29 - July 4 event will likely be a sellout. I'd mark my calendar NOW.
OK, one more thing from Parade. There was plenty of information, including a Tech Session and a cutaway of the new PDK (Porsche Doppelkupplung) transmission and other things offered in the upcoming 2009 911S. This sounds like a new car: new engine, launch control, state of the art Nav sys-tem (finally), the new PDK double clutch 7-speed automatic (60% faster than the Tiptronic S). And that's just a few items on the list. There was a lot of interest in this, and much ap-preciation of the fact that Porsche is, once again, back doing Prototype racing. The ALMS Series is booming, not a little because of Porsche's Prototype participation and support from members of PCA.
On that note, if you are interested in one of these 2009 997s, you should get in to Circle Porsche soon. With the factory's

The month of June brought out two words of signifi-cance to me… hunger and thirst. The turnout of Porsche owners and cars was so tremendous that I forgot to eat, and thus, didn’t get to drink my usual gallon of coffee. I kept talking to both new members and old members. And before long, it was time for the board meeting to begin. But I didn’t mind, I had a blast.
As usual, we had our usual tales of recruiting to be had. First off, Peter Novak was driving to a particular destina-tion, and made a wrong turn. As he was trying to right his course, he saw a red Porsche 356 parked on the street, and smartly tore off the lower portion of the back page of The Circuit Magazine and placed the ad for the Break-fast Club Meeting on the car’s windshield. Needless to say, the owner of the 1963 Coupe turned out to belong to Rick DeLaRosa, who not only showed up at the meeting, but brought his good friend, Dirk Thelen, who brought his red 1966 912.
The next phase of recruiting was smartly done by Myles Folger, who ran into a Porsche driver at a local In-N-Out Burger and invited him to our meeting. The owner of the 2001 midnight blue Carrera Cabriolet was Jason Barton, who came to us, via the First Settlers Region in Virginia. Jason had driven from the East Coast with the top down, to San Francisco, San Diego and then to Los Angeles. Jason fit right in with the SoCal scene.
Additionally, we also had new members Jim and Elyse Beardsley arrive in their 1964 beautiful Sky Blue 356 Coupe. Another new arrival, Jeff Compton, found us via the Internet and, after contacting me for the de-tails, drove up in his gorgeous 1989 gray 911Carrera Targa and immediately joined our ranks. The last new arrival, Jesse Ortega, showed up in his 2008 Basalt Black 997 Turbo Coupe. Jesse also owns a 2007 Black Carrera II Cabriolet. A hearty welcome goes out to the new arrivals.
Among the attendees at the June Break-fast Club Meeting were Sean Beardsley, Ron Broughman, Joe Bryant, Lynette Bugg, Skip Carter, Charles & Richard Clewett, Jeff Compton, Andrew Coulter, Norma Ann Dawson, Ricky DeLaRosa, Michael Dolphin, Richard Elliott, Henry Fella, Myles Folger, Marty Friedman, Rob-ert Friedman, Freddy Garcia, Steve Glas,

Wow…that’s a lot of names to not only type, but alphabetize as well. But with the turnout we had, it was to be expected.
Finally, several people realized that a few of our members were missing from the June Breakfast. Among the miss-ing were, Bill and Beeber Clevinger, Josh and Diane Hoff-man and Rod Williams. I began the search for the missing members and found all three of them the following Sun-day morning. All of them were standing in the “Winners Circle” of the Los Angeles Region’s Annual Concours. Bill and Beeber Clevenger took First Place in their division, Rod Williams took First Place in his division and Josh and Diane took Second Place in their division. It turns out that they took the First Saturday off to clean their cars… go figure. Charles Rooks showed up at the meeting and still took First Place in his division. Of course, he didn’t drive the car he entered into the Concours. Instead, he opted to drive his mint condition British Racing Green MBG. Congratulations to our Grand Prix Region Members for representing our region in such a positive way.

In 1974 I was 12 years old, hanging out with my friends at the beach (I was born and raised in Hawaii). There was a magazine with nude women being passed around. When it was my turn, I opened the magazine and was stunned — "Wow, look at those headlights!" All my buddies came around me to see who I was looking at. When they saw the picture in the magazine that caught my eye, they all sighed and said: "that's just a car..." And they were right.
Playboy had a feature article on the new Porsche models, with a photo of a beautiful Silver 911. I was so intrigued with the article that I took the maga-zine home so I could finish reading about this German car with something I had never seen before, a 6-cylinder engine in the "trunk" of the car.
How I got the Porsche Virusby Mark Endo
I put the magazine down on my bed and ran out to help my dad in the backyard. About 15 minutes later my mom screamed my name and informed me to "get in the house right now." As I walked in I saw the magazine in her hand and she was shaking it furiously asking wanting to know what was this type of magazine was doing in my room and where did I get it? I explained that it had an article about a fascinating Sil-ver German sports car called a Porsche. She gave me a strong look of doubt, then asked me to tell her what I read (a test). I showed her the article (quickly flip-ping the pages past the "other" nice
photos) and told her what I had read. The car was made by a Doctor who made cars in Germany, won races and, while there were several much faster cars, few could match the handling and keep up with this car in tight turns and curves. She read the start of the article to confirm my story, then ripped out the pages about the Porsche and handed them to me. She took the rest of the magazine and warned me to NEVER bring a magazine like that in to our home again.
It was on that day that I became afflicted with the Porsche Virus, have never been cured, and have been the proud owner/steward of a 1967, 1968, 1969 and now 1974 Porsche.

El Toro – OCR has invited GPX to use the El Toro site for an Autocross – they have offered to help us. There is a suggestion to do another Monday event with paid corner workers. A DE would not be possible at El Toro as passing is not allowed there. Further discussion planned.
Treasurer’s Report - The treasurer’s report was reviewed and discussed.
Advertising - Chuck Weaver has an interest in trying to find some new advertisers for GPX and getting involved
with the Board. Skip and Chuck to have a discussion in the next month or so
Talk about putting banner ads on our website for our advertisers. Jimmie Mitchell to look at the feasibility.
Queen Mary Concours - Plans are coming together for the event. The 912 Registry will be joining us and think that they will have 20-25 cars for a corral.
California Festival of Speed - The April 2008 event was the best attended ever. A high number of volunteers came from the Grand Prix Region. Special Interest Groups helped bring in people as did the Cayenne/Cayman test drive – we need to continue to look for ways to bring in more Porsche enthusiasts.
