CBC’s CBC’s After-After-

Hours!Hours!

II must report that last month’s Merit Awards Night on May 16th was a grand success, perhaps the best since

CBC created the Merit Award program in 1956. Over 300 attendees enjoying a truly festive evening of fine food, great entertainment, the fellowship of peers from the industry, and some surprise awards along the way. The program included a new category winner for Charitable Projects for the first time. Read all about it elsewhere in this issue!

AA t this writing, we are closing in on what shapes up to be the most successful CBC Golf Classic event in

modern history…not only sold out, but over-sold with some extra foursomes going off on the Par-5 holes. Hope you signed up in time, and we’ll report on the outcome in your next Edifice issue. With the year going along as it has, weather-wise, we don’t anticipate any problems with rain.

TT here is a new Summer event in the works for July 11th, which will be held at the DIRTT (Do It Right

This Time) Environmental Solutions rooftop facility in the Helene Curtis Building, overlooking the Chicago River. This will be a fun evening (cocktails & appetizers event) for networking with fellow professionals, part of our Future Leaders Program. So, we urge all members to send young troops for a fun, informative evening.

SS hifting gears to the September 19th program, we are following up on last year’s exciting and informative

Economic Summit. It will again hosts top executives from divergent sectors of our industry engaging in

straight talk on industry-specific insights. This will once again be a program you want not want to miss!

OO ur premier lifetime achievement award program, the Award of Honor, will follow on October 17th.

Promotions in local trade media are being launched just now, and nomination packets are being prepared that will come due in early September. I urge you to take action now...by considering who might be a deserving candidate. Last year, the prestigious CBC recognition of a lifetime of accomplishment in the great Chicago building industry community was won by Carol Ross Barney, recognizing her years of service to the industry. Now, it’s time to choose a worthy successor. Visit the CBC website for nomination information at: www.chicagobuildingcongress.org.

CC BC issues invoices for 2012-2013 Membership dues in July, and simultaneously launches an aggressive

direct mail campaign to attract new members. I urge you to settle the new dues promptly and complete the companion Directory information sheet as well. Then our database, 2013 Directory, and our companion web site listings will all have your current information.

II n support of the new Membership Drive, I once again reiterate my personal challenge each of you to

recruit just one new member by Fall, in time for our Economic Summit luncheon...and I’ll try to do the same, then we’ll compare notes to see who did best!

FF inally, I wish to give you an advance preview of a brand-new project, the CBC 75th Anniversary

Yearbook...just launched, and planned for completion by mid-2013. It will be a keepsake collectible, with a balance of historical background on Chicago Building Congress and a mix of fresh stories on current projects ...plus a wealth of advertising opportunites exclusively for CBC members. Watch this space for more news, we have just turned the first shovel.

WE NEED YOUR DUES & DATA!WE NEED YOUR DUES & DATA! Chicago Building Congress spends the Summer preparing for each new year with several important tasks, beginning with billing for dues. In July of this year, all member companies received invoices for their 2012-2013 dues.

That mailing also included a data update request form, which will be used not only to maintain our membership database, but also to develop and publish the 2013 CBC Directory. And, since change is inevitable, this is your best opportunity to inform CBC about any changes in representatives, membership status, names, titles, addresses, phone and fax numbers, e-mail addresses, etc. Up-to-date,

timely information helps keep both our print and on-line CBC Directories current and useful to all.
