61 July 21 PUSHED ASIDE: Reclaiming Gage
7:30pm @Catherine Cumming Theater–Caz Theater, Lincklaen St.Staged scenes from an opera about Matilda Joslyn Gage by Persis Parshall Vehar, libretto by Gabrielle Vehar, celebrating the NYS Centenary of the women’s suffrage movement. Mrs. Gage, a Fayetteville resident, was one of the triumvirate, along with Susan B. Anthony and Eliz. Cady Stanton, to spark the movement. Gage’s daughter Maud married L. Frank Baum in their FY home, and therefore the creator of the Wizard of Oz has a role in the opera!

3:15pm – SOUND WANDERING II: Art, Music & Nature (5 sites with music at each – a variety of new music for percussion, trombone with Sacred Dance Collective of CNY, violin, flute, CNY Singers) concluding on the hilltop for the premiere of Park Music II by Edward Ruchalski, in collaboration with SQHAP artist-in-residence Geoff Navias.
4:30pm David Harper’s “We See You Mrs. Riester” exhibit, a collaborative sculpture celebrating the 100th year of Stone Quarry Hill Art Park’s founder, Dorothy Riester, entrance foyer of historic Hilltop House. The sculpture represents a tree-like figure composed of open wood boxes. Eighteen regional artists adopted a box and created a unique artistic tribute to Dorothy’s spirit. The combined assemblage displays a marvelous diversity of creative expression.
