Attention: New Families to Faith Formation If you have a child who will be starting 1st grade in the Fall, or are moving into the parish from another program, it is time to enroll your child(ren) in our Faith Formation program! Here at St. Stan’s we offer to walk with you and your family as your child begins formal religious instruction in our Catholic faith. Information concerning classes, times, and tuition can be found on our website, however all new families to our program are asked to call the Faith Formation office to set up an appointment so that we may welcome you and explain our program in detail. TEEN CLUB NEWS CLI – CHRISTIAN LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE

July 10-15, 2018 Christian Leadership Institute is a 5-day experience that teaches young people leadership skills. Kids will learn organizational skills, how to keep a calendar, how to run a meeting and work well with others. In addition to these skills, teens will learn how to be a Catholic leader: how to be a sacristan, how to evangelize, and how to discuss difficult moral and political issues. It is a team-building experience including outreach to the community. The cost is $175. For more information please contact Mrs. Tighe in the parish office at 635-1700 x 10.

CATECHESIS OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD

Once again, this fall, our Faith Formation program will be offering Pre-K 4-year old’s and Kindergarten children to come to know Jesus through the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. This special approach to Faith Formation is based on the conviction that God and the child are in relationship. Each child has a deep need to experience and a special capacity to enjoy the presence of God. There is a falling in love that takes place between God and the child when the environment, materials, and catechists are all prepared in such a way that the most vital needs of the child are met. We are so blessed here at St. Stan’s to have such an environment, called the Atrium, filled with specially hand-made materials for the children to work with in nurturing this relationship with Jesus through the person of the Good Shepherd. It is a special opportunity for all our little ones to experience. We hope you will prayerfully consider registering your child to be part of this deep faith-filled journey with God. Classes begin Sunday, October 14 and will be held 3 Sundays each month from 9:30-10:45 in the Faith Formation building. If you are interested in registering or have questions about the program, please call the Faith Formation office. Class size is limited, so don’t delay.

MEN’S PRAYER GROUP Next Meeting: Saturday, July 7, 7am

All men of the parish are welcome to join as a large group of men comes together to share their Faith through prayer and discussion. The group meets the first Saturday of each month at 7am in the Church. We hope that many more men will choose to come and be a part of this exciting endeavor. This is a wonderful opportunity to strengthen your own faith as well as the faith of our parish community.

It is an opportunity for people of all ages and backgrounds to spend a few days together, putting into practice universal values of dialogue and solidarity based on the Gospel. Mariapolis 2018 will be held from July 13-15. There will be presentations on the Focolare spirituality, Mass, life experiences, workshops and outdoor activities. SOLIDARITY FUND FOR THE CHURCH IN AFRICA

Our special annual collection is for the rapidly growing church in Africa, but too often there are not enough local pastoral resources to support people in their faith. When you contribute to this special collection, you are helping people across the African continent grown closer to Christ and to His Church. In Malawi, young people comprise nearly two-thirds of the population. The Church there reflects this youthful face as well. The majority of the faithful are young people, but unfortunately the Church in Malawi does not have enough staff or ministers to reach these young Catholics and help them grow in their faith. Without support, young people run the risk of falling away from the Church. However, with your generosity to the Solidarity Fund, the Church in Malawi can train youth leaders to connect with and guide young people across the country. Nearly 800 young people will be reached because of your contributions. With your help, the Catholic youth of Malawi and elsewhere in Africa will become a powerful force for good and new messengers of the Gospel. The Church in Africa needs your help to ensure that all the faithful have access to resources to help them grow in our shared faith. Please be as generous as you can be to this special collection.

PRAYER THROUGH THE INTERCESSION OF

MARY IMMACULATE

During this month of July, let us always remember to pray for our beloved country with this most beautiful prayer! Mary, the Immaculate Conception, is the patroness of the United States with this title, declared so officially by the first Council of Baltimore in 1846. The following is an excerpt from a prayer written in the late 1700’s and

has timeless application for us all. Most Holy Trinity, we put the United States of America into the hands of Mary Immaculate in order that she may present the country to you. Through her we wish to thank you for the great resources of this land and for the freedom which has been its heritage. Through the intercession of Mary, have mercy on the Catholic Church in America. Grant us peace. Have mercy on our President and on all the officers of our government. Grant us a fruitful economy, born of justice and charity. Have mercy on capital and industry and labor.

Protect the family life of the nation. Guard the precious gift of many religious vocations. Through the intercession of our Mother, have mercy on the sick, the tempted, sinners—on all who are in need. Mary, Immaculate Virgin, our Mother, patroness of our land, we honor you and give ourselves to you. Protect us from every harm. Pray for us, that acting always according to the will of your divine Son, we may live and die pleasing to God. Amen.

(Excerpt from a prayer attributed to Archbishop John Carroll, first bishop of the United States)
