Gates Millennium Scholarship Finalist, March 2015This program, funded by a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, was established to provide outstanding low-income minority students with an opportunity to complete an undergraduate college education in any discipline area of interest. 1,000 finalists were selected from a pool of around 56,000 competitive applicants.

Questbridge National College Match Scholar, September 2014The Questbridge National College Match Scholarship Program is designed for high school seniors who have shown outstanding academic ability despite facing economic challenges. Finalists demonstrate the motivation to overcome socio-economic obstacles to achieve academic excellence.

Each year, students from different schools are chosen as Standard Bearers for the coming year in honor of their outstanding academic achievement and citizenship. For the high schools in the district, the top ranking students are chosen.

Chemistry Achievement Award from the American Chemical Society, May 2013 and May 2014Achievement for the academic achievement of high school students in the top 5% of students in all chemistry classes.  

Highest Honors Award with Distinction, 2011-2014Achievement for students demonstrating the highest caliber of merit. Recipient of highest honors during all of the year quarter schedules.

School of the Arts Masterminds Achievement Award, June 2012Presented by coaches, Marcy Gamzon and Dolly Parker. This award is accounted for the successful year during academic trivial bowl.

Brigham Young University Department of English, April 2012Awarded third prize in poetry division of the Brigham Young University English Department’s Re: Writing Contest. Award recognizes young writers that illustrate talent and effort. Award presented by Dr. Edward S. Cutler, Chair of the department of English.

String Ensemble and Merit Scholarship at Eastman School of Music, May 2011Awarded based on the context of merit and financial needs of family. Demonstrated good work at current NYSSMA level (contrasting styles, tempos, sight reading, etc). Membership includes Eastman Chamber Soloists on full scholarship.

Pathways Scholarship at the Eastman Community Music School, May 2011Recipient of scholarship enabling attendance at the Eastman Community Music School. Award based on the context of merit and financial needs of family. Scholarship follows one full year of study. Responsibilities include attendance to scheduled private lessons and recitals.

Community Membership, Activities, and Employment

Co-President of Students Against Destructive Decisions, 2014-2015 School YearStudents Against Destructive Decisions, formerly Students Against Driving Drunk (SADD) is an organization whose aim is to prevent accidents from students taking potentially destructive decisions. Role in the club involves leading the members, creating upcoming informational events at school, and promoting a healthy school environment.

Volunteering with Project Leap with the Warner School of Education, 2013-Current Literacy Engagement and Achievement Program designed to keep the most at-risk children—African-American and Latino students in the city—engaged, motivated, and enrolled in school. The project specializes in providing individualized literacy instruction program for kindergarten through third-grade.

The Horizons Program at Warner is a six-week, full-day summer enrichment program on the University of Rochester Campus. The program is designed to allow students in the Rochester City School District each summer to attend for nine successive summers of high-quality academics blended with arts, sports, cultural enrichment, field trips, and confidence-building activities. This was a paid position.

Eastman Youth Chamber Soloists, Eastman Community Music School, grade 9-currentChamber Orchestra of advanced students, who already possess a refined string technique, and solid ensemble skills. EYCS facilitates the musical development of young players through the detail-oriented study of musical masterpieces from the Baroque to the present. Rehearsals focus on subtleties of string playing (timing, nuance, gesture, phrasing, tone color, sound production, and articulation). Position in the orchestra is first violinist assisting concertmaster.

Recycling Club, School of the Arts, grade 9 – 10Serves to promote the importance in the environment to keep a clean campus and teaching others about conserving the planet’s natural resources. In this club, we aim to improve the community’s environment while creating a sense of pride and accomplishment through volunteering community service.

National Honor Society, School of the Arts, grade 11- current The National Honor Society is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character.

Model United Nations, School of the Arts, grade 10-current Club dedicated to bringing international issues to the forefront of high school academia. Brings to life the problems that face the real world and allows participants to represent their assigned country's position and work towards resolving issues of global importance.

Masterminds, School of the Arts, grade 7 – currentAcademic quiz bowl program in upstate New York. Competing school teams are challenged on academic and trivial knowledge. Role in the club for the 2014-2015 includes Captain of the Varsity Team. Last school year I was captain for the Junior Varsity team.

Math League, School of the Arts, grade 9-current The math league creates a stage of competition among high school math teams from Monroe County in topics including percents, fractions, probability, statistics, algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
